Excellent video. Sad I missed the stream.
Its a difficult topic to conquer. The materials used, shipping, warranty, time, consumables, tools like wrappers and printers and lathes, taxes to be paid.....it is a lot to consider.
Shipping can be the killer. I eat a portion of the shipping cost otherwise id have to charge $75 just for shipping and materials. That takes you out of any consideration along the TX coast where theres plenty of builders.

In my journey I have found going towards a standardized production type rod builder has helped me increase profit, decrease overhead, increase production, and just all around streamline or trim the fat.
Instead of offering anything and everything and all types of rods I have honed in on offering a specific type of rod (Inshore casting for wading, boats or kayaks that are based on performance not fancy looks) with a few options items like grips, seats, and guides on very specific blanks (UL-MH). These are blanks I believe to be the best for a specific use. This means I can order more blanks at one time to benefit more from wholesale tier pricing, have blanks in stock to speed up production time, and it shares my decades of fishing experience with customers on what I found to be the best for a specific type of fishing.
I have also stopped fancy wraps. They consume lots of time and add to the cost without adding to the performance.
