Exactly, it was a mocking laugh directed at Vaemond, that he can't contain himself even on his own niece's funeral. That's a "you're dead after this" kind of laugh
you can also see him on EP8 when he chop off Vaemond's head in order to protect Rhaenyra. he let people being disgusted by him too. didn't care abt Alicent throwing a shade on him later. BUT Matt Smith said Daemon is actually fragile. you can see that on EP1 after he heard the council were talking abt him and Viserys is abt to disinherit him. he was so broken hearted. Mysaria had to comfort him. on EP6, Laena had to comfort him bcs he sorta depressed for being cast aside by his family.
You are right on point with this! He can be calculated and savage when “necessary” but he protects and loves his family with the same passion and honor. He is my favorite character.
Say what you want about Vaemond but he wasn't scared to keep it 100. Mad respect for that. Looked dead as Daemon while he was saying it to. Like bitch what?
He laughed at the Velaryon idiot who tried to use a eulogy to insult the heir to the throne. Talking about racial purity in the valyrian language totally missing the point that they are valyrian. They have the blood of their mother and simply a different heir color. He later met the consequences of these actions and his ambitions in the throne room. When he overdid it. At the funeral he had Daemon laughing at his mockery because you won't get out more of him at his wedding.. a pathetic attempt. But when he did it openly at court, in front of his brother.. he lost his head. Daemon would've made a fantastic hand of the king. It would've been a great duo.. The heart of a good man as the crown and the ruthless fist of a dragon to keep the realm in check.
The Greens would tell you that Daemon cares only for himself, especially after the scene in Episode 10, where he chokes Rhaenyra. However, I don't think this is the case. Daemon clearly deeply cares about the people he loves. Your analysis is great as always 👍
Honestly? I thought he was thinking of better times with laena Ive known people who theyll laugh at a family members funeral because they remembered something they loved about the person who passed Itll be a slight chuckle or light laugh like daemon does here Choosing to remember the person fondly, rather than just whats in the box before them, an empty shell My moms side of the family we dont have traditional funerals, its not in a church or at the graveyard its at an open bar, where everyone can talk to each other about him while sometimes getting piss drunk
Damon is so misunderstood, even by the audience. He's presented in the storyline as reckless and even crazy at times. Many viewers accept that at face value as do his fictional counterparts. Damon is "crazy like a fox" and would have been a king in the style of Agon the Conqueror. Likewise, his elder brother was a good man ... reasonable, predictable, generally kind and a terrible ruler.
Daemond was laughing because Vaemond was testing his patience. Daemonds was probably thinking , “what would be the best way to kill him at my wife’s funeral?”🤔and laughed at the irony.
I get really frustrated with the whole Valeryans and Strong blood. The kids are Targaryens too. This is why Targaryens intermarry. When you are a royal, who claims you are worthy of the throne thru your bloodline, the more diluted that bloodline is, the harder it is to sell the bull that your blood is special somehow. Daemon wanted to avoid all that crap by staying as pure blood as possible, he also wanted to keep dragons relevant. Visery’s was more lax on both and it created problems for their reign. In terms of family, Daemon loved his brother and of course he loves Rhaenyra and her kids. He was less interested in Alicent’s kids, primarily because they are Hightowers, but they also didn’t grow up around him and Alicent was constantly teaching her kids to foster hatred towards Rhaenyra and her kids.
Daemon laughs during Laena’s funeral because he finds Vaemond’s eulogy to be hypocritical and a slight against Rhaenyra’s children. Something that Daemon will reconcile later. I never liked Vaemond's character because he clearly has a complex when it comes to his authority in Driftmark. His nephew, Laenor, rightfully dubbed him the "Master of Complaints" and Vaemond did not fight for Driftmark's interest in the battle of the Crabfeeder and his army. Corlys supported Rhae's son Lucerys to inherit Driftmark but because he was hurt in battle, Viserys was close to death, and Coryls' direct heirs were females, Vaemond immediately sees an opportunity for himself and strikes an accord with Otto. Vaemond has good reason to think the Crown will take his side, as long as “the Crown” remains in the hands of Alicent and Otto, while Viserys lays in bed in a milk of the poppy haze. Otto/Alicent giving Driftmark to Vaemond will mean that Team Black doesn’t get control of Westeros’ navy when the civil war inevitably comes. It also means Vaemond will owe Alicent, and will likely turn Team Green, leaving them with quite the advantage. In the end, though, none of that wheeling and dealing matters, as Viserys appears to take charge, and once again, Vaemond’s plans are ruined- the reason he was so angry. Although, Vaemond may have spoke some truth- it's considered treason in Viserys' Westeros and Vaemond was about to loose his tongue, when Daemon removes half of his head for insulting his wife.
I thought he was laughing because someone's trying to start succession drama at his literal wife's funeral. I thought it was a laugh if absurdity

He is psycho type broh 🥱
I thought that as well but didn’t realize the rest of this. Now I think it’s both.
It didn't stop him from doing his neice the same night

I'm glad other people are catching on to what that was about.

"Hey, how dare you speaking like this about her? You shut your mouth", - this scene gets a new context after episode 8. 👱🗡️😝😅

I don't know, despite his Rogue nature and murder of a few undeserving people, his fans still praise him

He was laughing because for all veamond's preach about blood purity the heir to the driftmark is a literal strong bastard

Cool!
Great point.
no its because of 'blood' that Daemon laughed.
