Lock 19 was super cool…in the country of Oman I got to witness turtles hatching and heading down to the water. One of the coolest things I have ever seen. Paddle On!
Way cool lock and nice to see turtles doing their thing! And then, after a jubilant Taters goes on about spotting the turtle laying the eggs with a smile on her face and joy in her person, Matt has to throw in the "could have been pooping" comment! Yin and Yang, up and down, optimist and eternal pessimist/realist. But it works and we enjoy the interplay. Paddle on! Tortoise
What a scary lock !! Holding onto nothing,grasping,grasping... with wornout, wobbly arms from paddling..then nothing..no rungs do I let my startledness over come me,scream and flail backwards, tipping over the boat ? I may discover a new species under the water Or do I try to hear what that man who's talking to the sky is saying? This is an Epic canoe trip indeed
The Anticlimactic Lock 19! I have turned down several opportunities to Transit the Panama Canal. Watched a friend's video of the locks cycling and by the 3rd lock I hit fast forward. Heat, humidity and mosquitoes was my takeaway HOWEVER, I am watching all of your Mississippi videos multiple times because every second has been interesting thank you for taking this trip
Keokuk's drop is 38' which is one of the largest drops of all the Mississippi Locks and Dams. It is that high to make a deep pool to supply water to the Hydro power generating station at this L&D.
The big lock, looked like fun. Those may flies are fish food. So important but I've never seen those big mats of bugs in Oregon. Keep on course and easy paddling.

No it was climactic! It was a very fun ride, definitely the best of the locks.
What were you doing where you were getting opportunities to transit the Panama Canal?
@jenniferblackie2027 mainly just world traveling.... although I did get to Transit the Suez Canal a few times when I was in the military
Wow amazing work team MT.
This is 1 of my favorite episodes.
Great work.
Got my postcard… thank you, Jen!
I remember that lock well when I ran the river. When they opened the far gate, the turbulence was so bad, I swamped my canoe and nearly flipped it!
Quetico 17. This thing is damned stable. It doesn’t tip even if someone is trying to toss someone else out of it
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes funny that you would know that

As Eric would say: "I'm sailing away..."
You remind me of the golf channel everything is so peacefull an the gallery is quiet .amazeing
Us locals love to watch the barges and cruise ships lock through. The smelly plant produces cprn syrup and possibly other corn by product.
I’ve been watching the Mississippi River photos Facebook group and it seems like locks and cruise ships are the main thing people post

Camped on that sandbar many times years ago. Tried a s2s two years ago, made it to cape girardeau
What ended up stopping you?
Fort Madison is a very busy place. I got a river cabin there in Lead churt
WOooOoOoo LOCK 19 Was big af
Loving the “Taters closing the day” additions to the videos. It’s a nice touch!
I find myself saying " home sweet home for the night" now wherever I travel
I live in Keokuk I've fished near a lot of the places you passed by in the video
I know an Aldi when I see one
To fold your sail easily.
With the sail open, put your foot on the bottom of the ring. Grab the 12:00 position with your hand, twist and push down.
When you get close to Grafton Illinois...stop at "The Loading Dock" bar and grill..cold beer and good food
We totally meant to, but unfortunately when we passed through it was the morning and they weren’t open yet
Which is a completely different thing from “it’s too early for Matt to be drinking” just for the record
😎✌

Hey Y'all !

Does Tatars realize that Gulf of Mexico hurricane season began June 1?
Are you suggestion we might encounter bad weather? That never happens. I mean I don’t think I’ve been directly hit by a hurricane since…the ect

It’s a classic…something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read.
Maybe they should adapt it like Pride prejudice and zombies…
Can you do a video of just Taters laughing the entire time followed by one of you grumbling?
I keep threatening to do a taters giggle cut of one of these trips but alas there’s never time before it’s time to go on the next one
