    It seems that the grinder has a significant design flaw, as the paddle wheel, being made of polymeric material and subjected to constant pressure from the conical burr, undergoes creep, so that as the months go by, the need to add washers increases. And it's unstoppable (and I suspect the same occurs to the burr holder). Then, as the paddle wheel rises, ground coffee accumulates in the grinding chamber, which ends up falling down the inner walls of the grinder. I have recomended this grinder based on the reviews of Lance Hendrick and the other coffee guys on UA-cam, but nobody talks about the problems that arise with time. Is there any solution? Have you considered replacing the plastic parts with metal ones?

      I think that's my issue. I already have additional shims. Moreover I am unable to grind as fine as I did before cleaning it.

      @@esongsore oof - did you call? they'll probably replace it! I have owned my non-ESP Encore for over a decade - and can take a apart and completely rebuild as necessary (twice so far - for calibration issue and for a screw that came off of the housing - easily reinserted - call them - they truly stand behind their products

      So it's basically a broken product design and theres nothing you can do about it. You can buy it to make espresso with it for a few months and then you can throw into the trash?

      @@breakdown7553 far, far, far more people have had fantastic results from this grinder. Even a $1500 grinder will have some folks who had a bad experience.

    can you please clarify the correct arrangment of the original shims , or no particulare order just all of the six should be there?

      The parts fiche shows two kinds of shims: 3 pcs of 0,25mm shims on top, and 4 pcs of 0,10mm shims on the bottom. When you feel them in your hand, they bend a little less and more easily.

      8-9 for the esp range then i guess it jumps upto 20 for each click

    I have the opposite issue. If I’m at the top end of the espresso settings (18-20) would removing shims shift the settings coarser?

    • @Baratza
      @Baratza  Рік тому

      Thanks for letting us know! We normally do not advise taking out shims from the grinder. If you are experiencing a fine grind at the coarser settings, we would suggest checking out this grind quality issue video - ua-cam.com/video/qUCMrWIdyLI/v-deo.html. If the problem persists, please reach out to support@baratza.com and they can get the problem fixed!

      Talking about particle size. I did the shimming process. It happens that the older the coffee beans the finer you must go and the other way round. The question is how many microns does this process change on the original particle size? Is the result basically only a change on the steps towards the coarser side ? Meaning what was a 9 now is 11 and so? Thanks

      Same here, when grinding for espresso I find myself in the 18-20 range regardless of the kind of coffee I'm using (freshly roasted, light or dark, etc.) any grind size below setting 18 and my espresso machine will choke as the grind quality is way too fine.
      I contacted baratza support and they sent me the new quick release knob (mentioned at 2:02) and I'm hoping this will help

    • @Roschu2000
      @Roschu2000 9 місяців тому +1

      @@jonfcbayern Did the new quick release knob help with your issue? I noticed that my quick release knob loosens itself after a couple of grinds. If it's loose the burr will come upward which is the same as if you would turn the hopper to get a finer grind. By tightening the knob again the problem is gone.
      I already requested a new quick release knob and hope it will stay tight!

    In this video, you lift the ring burr out so easily, but mine is always kind of stuck in there and needs some serious finnagling. Is something broken with mine? Or is this kind of normal?
