Hey Lisa !!! It’s Lynn from the farmers daughter ..Bruce she comes to our bee club meetings ..your more than welcome to come and speak and maybe make a video for your channel .. our first two meetings we are avg . 30 people …
Yes it is quite the experience. We are about at the threshold of what we can do. Definitely could not do it without all the help. Thanks for checking in my friend.
I know Ozark!! Mike echoed what I’ve been saying. Enough to sustain and trigger the brood, but just not a huge surplus to move it up. They kept it in the nest area. I’ll be pulling tomorrow and same thing, yanking a few deep frames and giving them some drawn from the freezer. Great video again Bruce!! We’ll have to do another ‘meet up’ when things slow down.
Another great video Bruce. I love all the friends you round up for harvest. It sure is a lot of work but your setup is nice and efficient. Time to start fighting those mites!
Haven’t seen her since then but there are still a lot of bees in that hive. One of these days I will really need to get in there and try to track her down. It is always possible they superseded her.
We believe t😢hat below zero artic blast we all got in December hurt the fruit tree buds, fortunately God's favor shined on us here in taft,tn and the bees grew colonies this year. Thanks for your help
Great video Bruce, fun times extracting honey. Didn’t extract honey this spring but planning on a good fall harvest if everything corporates. Good stuff Bruce 😎
Most of my bees are a combination of genetics. I probably have a little bit of all types. I think my favorites are those with heavy craniolan and/or Caucasian influence. But I am still trying to grow figure it out.
@@brucesbees that’s awesome! Thanks for the reply. This is my first year keeping bees and I have 2 Italian hives. Hoping to grow my operation a little bit this year but no where near the size of yours
Hey that’s awesome. I would roll with what you have and as you grow try different things. Each strain of bees has its own unique characteristics that can vary even from hive to hive. Keeps things interesting for sure!
I am in the market for an uncapper. I considered one of the roller type that Bruce is using or a flail uncapper. Bruce or any viewer have experience, recommendations as to which is better, the roller or a flail.
I am guessing the flail is probably better overall. But the Simple Harmony Farms has worked well for us. A chain uncapper is probably the next step in our progression.
Hi Bruce, have a question why my colonies have a lot of polen but not honey? Single brood management more than 2 frames full with pollen 8 brood and pollen but no honey on second box
Some flowers don’t produce much nectar but produce mostly honey. And if your bees are building up they have probably been using the nectar to reproduce and also to make wax etc. If there is excess nectar that key will make honey. But honey is good storage for the bees. They typically use as much nectar as they need to keep the hive growing before they store it.
I usually do a spring harvest in early to mid May and a summer harvest in late June to early July. I let the bees keep any late summer of fall honey to get help them get through the winter.
@651journey we used the Simple Harmony Farms uncapper for years before we got this new one. It is pretty quick. We had two of them going, one for each extractor.
Looking good Bruce! How do you like that uncapped? Have you tried the blade type that shaves the comb? If so, how would you rate the two against each other?
I like it for the speed. We used to use a serrated knife to uncap. I have never really cared much for the hot knife. Would like to upgraded to some sort of automated system but those are very expensive and I am not quite there yet.
3 questions Just curious, how mant hives do you manage? Did you guys get any robbing during the pull process? Our first pull was pretty stressfull because we didn't expect robbing to start. And lastly, what do you do to get wet supers cleaned up for storage? I know some store them wet, but I chose to set them all out about 700yrds away seperated from the bees. We had lots of fighting, lots of dead bees. Also alot of my new comb got destroyed in the process ☹️
Hey buddy. I don't generally comment on many videos because I watch on TV but I wanted fire up the laptop and drop a quick note.. First let me say you have a nice operation, it's a good process. We had the same issue with the lean harvest here in Georgia. The freeze wiped us out. Next year should be a bonanza. If you don't mind, can I ask what type of lav mic are you using. It seemed to have good quality.
DJI. Game changer. I did not use it during a lot of the first part of the video simply because it did not work out. But I used it in the honey house as I explained the process. I use it in most of my videos. Absolute game changer. Has an adaptor for juts about any type of phone, camera or computer. I use an iPhone or fill my footage.
It also comes with 2 mics so it works perfectly for interviews. Wireless receiver plugs directly in phone or camera. No App Also has a sound recording feature for independent sound recording. I think this is the first video I watched and this is where I heard about it. I am a fan for sure. So convenient and effective. ua-cam.com/video/LGIZwe9lSoc/v-deo.html
@@brucesbees Thanks for getting back to me. My last lav mic always rustled in my clothes. This looks like it might be a good mic to keep inside the veil.
Yes I clip it on the collar of my shirt inside the veil. That is close enough to the bees to hear them buzzing but they are not able to actually attack it. The DJI mics are a bit pricey but well worth it for many reasons in my opinion.
Yea it was a weird flow this year. I made the most honey I've ever made this year, but that's just because I doubled my hive numbers. Tallow was short but sweet
@@brucesbees wild here as well. Now even cooler but another of trees in blooming stage big pick up 👆 and more big rain on way for us here in North Queensland.
Even trying to work a doable price with vevor. I bought 7 hives from them at fair price now they jump 50 bucks + overnite on exstracter . Glad you have better dealing than me and I'm paying cash
Nope. That’s was just a review. I have way too many bees to try and use Vevor for my main harvest. I upgraded years ago and have now combined my efforts with my friend Rusty.
I had really good year to. I am 3rd year beekeeper and I had 11 buckets 58-62 pounds. I have over 50 colonies including nucks. I think it is not bad for 3rd year beekeeper. I purchesed single hive in aprill 2021 at the end of year i had 6 end of 2022 i had 37 lost 6 over the winter time and spring and now over 50. Man it is hard work to do extraction................
Never have plans on making my operation this big but love to watch everyone hard at work contributing to make things run smooth.
Yes it is quite an event. Couldn’t do it without all the help.
Thanks Bruce !!
Thanks for checking in Redfish!
Good crew there Bruce!!
Yes it went well. Thank goodness it’s done. Temps have climbed to an almost unbearable point the past few days. Glad we got it done when we did.
Many hands make light work!
Nope, just makes the hard work easier, but definitely still hard work and lots of fun!
Yes! Good times…

Here in Ozark at The Farmers Daughter..
Yeah I could probably make it happen. Send me some dates and I will see what I can do.
Hey Lynn! Good to see ya! Plan on being there in July. Making it a part of my routine now.
@@brucesbeesJuly 10 is the next meeting. 6:00PM! Second Monday every month.

This is the video I've been waiting for. Out of all the fun stuff in beekeeping, the woodworking and honey harvest are what get me the most excited.
Yes. It is really cool to see what the bees are able to do.
Killing it Bruce!! Great to see! We're pulling our honey today too
Yeah fun stuff. Hope you have a nice harvest! From the looks of things in your videos you will definitely have some to pull.

Happy Honey Harvest Day!!!! Need to make that a national recognized day. I'm just saying 😮.
Why not? There is a recognized day for everything else! 🤷🏻♂️

Still a lot of honey and a lot of work- looking good. I only had 24 supers and it whipped me.😅

Hey Bruce, what size do you think is a good size honey house for a fifty hive beekeeper with room for comb storage and to expand in the future?
I’m not sure of honey house size but would recommend at least a 20 frame extractor. And other equipment just depends on how much you want to spend.
@@brucesbees thanks, I think the decapper is going to be the bottle neck for us, and they are expensive!

We had a little robbing but not too bad. I usually set the boxes out for the bees to rob and then stack them with Ice Crystals (Paramoth)
Where do you get your buckets?
You can get them at Lowe’s, Home Depot and other places. I have also ordered from epackagesupply.com
Where do you get your buckets from Bruce? Do you reuse them?
Most of my buckets come from Lowes and epackagesupply.com/Amazon.
Yes I do reuse them if they are in good condition.
I ordered new lids from epackagesupply.com this year.
