Welcome to the EXACT reason you do not plug in random USB devices into a machine.
If you try this at schools pc's ur ded!
@@tigersusyt Well, if I was planning to actually use a device like this, I wouldn't be the one plugging it in. There's far less direct ways to achieve this.
How these, or the "spy cables" that are set up to inject trojan software into the victim's machine, are deployed is to pretty much drop them on the floor, leave them behind on tables, sell them as disguised second hand products and so on.
So, hypothetically, all I would "do" is pose as a legitimate visitor, and just drop the device in a corridor. Then, it's on someone else who isn't as tech savvy to use the unknown device and...boom.
Not that I'd willingly return to school. I troll twitter, that's more than enough screaming brain dead yuppies for me d=P
i have plugued a cable i found on a old laptop i had, this usb doesn work anymore even tried to repair nothing works even the fact that the traces being good it has 5v and all , on a newer laptop i put the same cable in it by mistake it just said overcurrent detected and after reboot everything works fine, i have saearched about that and nowadays usb has isolation on data linea and short circuit overvoltage and current detection so in newer devices chances of frying from it reduces a lot, its not impossible to kill if you get trying but its better than guaranteed as before
Not the exact reason, or the oldest. Malware is why you don't do that, these things are just another reason.

If not fried, spare parts can be reused.

the amount of adapters just tells you how many devices the usb wants to murder 😂
It’s a capacitor that builds up a ton of energy and then discharges it all at once into the port, and it normally overwhelms all the systems and fries microchips
A classmate had one of these in high school and before each period our teacher would go out in the hallway and talk with other teachers , well some students had the privilege to go to some talent show type thing , while the people who didn’t pay had to take some BS quiz and activity BUT that classmate I mentioned, ran behind the desk plugged it in and we all heard the pop it makes when you insert the usb and for at least a week or 2 that teacher was having the tech guy try solve what happened and he couldn’t so they just had to give the teacher a whole new computer 💀

Possibly the adaptor got friend and acted as a shield of sorts. Meanwhile, the laptop USB port is directly soldered to the laptop board.
Pretty sure all the adapter does is rearrange the wiring to work with the phone
Not exactly, sometimes USBs are connected via PCI-E, problem is if a PCI-E is not working correctly the PC will not power on at all.
All systems that provide voltage are connected via a capacitor so what most likely happened was that the capacitor got blown and anything that got connected to it from the bus lines caused the system to freak out and not power on.
Yup all that got fried was the protection diodes in the adapter
