Man idk i think i would be happy as hell even to be on that yacht let alone get to sleep on it. Shit id even happily take that left bunk and im 6'3" 260lbs
If I knew someone that owned this yacht I would happily sleep there too. These boats should be enjoyed. To me, that means having friends and family on board sleeping wherever there is space. Fill the cabins, sleep people on the salon sofas, and the little crew space. Thanks for watching!
I let one of these slip through my hands back in the winter of 2019. Dude was having money problems and his boat was beside mine at the marina so we knew each other pretty well. I know what he paid for it and how much he loved it. And I felt like I was taking advantage of him even though he set the price. His wife ended up taking it in the divorce then she trashed it. And finally last April the bank came and got it. It had gas in the fuel tanks, all the navigation electronics were gone, it seemed like every part of that Beautiful boat was broken and abused. I also haven't seen my friend again. I realize he loved that boat so much he wanted to see it taken care of. That's why he wanted me to take it. I tried to do the right thing and ended up doing the wrong thing. Life is strange sometimes.
Life isn't strange...it simply allows you to make mistakes like that so that you can learn from them and become wise. After things like that that happen once, ideally you'll learn your lesson and not make the same mistake again in the future. And in the end, you realize that all of your "mistakes" were stepping stones that were needed to bring you to where you are now, so they weren't really mistakes at all.
I literally can’t wrap my head around how they fit 2300hp, 6 beds, 3 bathrooms, a full salon, and closets in this thing. These designers are something else.
Amazing how they used every inch of that boat to make it very impressive. The crew quarters was a wow to even have that on a boat of that size...AMAZING!!!
Just beautiful. My dad bought a 40 ft sea ray express cruiser when I was in high school, until then we had a 22ft Monterey. It seemed huge! Beautiful boat. Nothing like being out on the water.
Impressive. However, you didn't explicitly say how long the boat is; it seems like 65' based on "L650". You would've done better to mention that at the beginning of the tour.
I know what to do with the crew quarters: Ditch the beds, put in another very large fuel tank 🙂. Try to get that range up to around 500 NM. Magnificent express-cruiser! Certainly something you could live aboard, especially with more range. Always loved Sea-Rays, and this is a shining example!
Even though I can't afford this, it is reassuring to see such well thought out design and attention to detail. The people who made this boat obviously enjoyed their work.
Best option for Southern California boating, hands down. Anything larger isn’t feasible for Newport Harbor, yet more than adequate for extended stays at Catalina.
The crew quarters would be great if you have a teenager. You could make those two small beds into one queen bed, and It would be the perfect little suite for them.
WOW...just went and checked the 'deeper specs' on the L650...only 165 gallons of tank water, no water-maker aboard (with all those showers?!), and fuel consumption gets INSANE above 1000-rpm (28+ gallons per hour?!). Well, it's a bay runner, not a extended range trawler, I'll give it that...(for those not familiar with salt-water craft, I'd recommend checking out the Jay Benford 55-ft Extended Range Trawlers...10-kts cruise, but 8000-mile range, too...and 600-gpd water-making, for less than the Sea Ray's price).
Very impressive boat. A garage option instead of crew quarters, keeping the head would take this thing into perfection territory. I liked your presentation a lot, just the right amount of detail 👏👏 nicely done “kid” 😊
This is a mix my own assumptions plus info from Sea Ray directly.. but this class was introduced in 2014 to compete with the luxury yacht brands that get imported from other countries. The boat is reviewed well and comes highly equipped. But any new yacht model will come with warranty issues which can be costly for a manufacturer to remedy. There is stiff competition in this size range and competitors who have been in the space for 30 plus years have a big advantage. It is easy to lose millions and it wasn't worth the continued risk. Sea Ray always have dominated the smaller sub 40 foot category in the US so the decision was made in 2018 to focus 100% on that segment. It was a safer bet for the company. Thanks for watching! :)
I get what you mean. Similar boats I've toured in this size range have much nicer crew areas. Realistically you will use that space for storage and won't actually put a crew in there.
Ya...ditch the crew quarters., you could add a 500 g fuel tank and get 560 nautical mile...this puts you in range of every fuel port from the Bahamas to turks and cacos...from there the carribians and west indies are up for grabs
Great job Tony! I never knew Sea Ray made luxury yachts. Thanks for the thorough walkthrough. I'm amazed at the cabin space as well as the size of the engine room.
Unless you are planning on bringing kids it seems like just one twin mattress in the small cabins would be plenty of places to bunk adults in more comfort. Or maybe a way to fill between the singles?
My dad bought a sea ray in 1999 and he still has it, and it’s immaculate. I remember looking at the books as a kid wishing he bought one of these big express cruisers lol.
Excellent presentation. Lovely boat. I will buy a lottery ticket today and if I win, I will buy this boat and live on it. Thanks for letting me dream big.
4:31 that a nice & different way to utilize that deals space in the corner under the countertop 🆚 the lazy Suzanne swing out shelving, while holding items taken up by the nice double set of fridge/freezer draws (providing more cold storage space then normally seen on similar sized yachts) 🛥
Sea Ray discontinued manufacturing boats over 40 feet a few years ago mainly because they never made money at it and this boat is a perfect example. The "Yacht" line was priced on par with other manufacturers like Tiara, Princess, Pershing just to name a few but they lacked the quality and seaworthiness of pretty much all of their competitors. Sea Rays are extremely popular on the Great Lakes and inland lakes and rivers but less so on the ocean. Go to a marina in Chicago or anywhere in Michigan or Ohio and you will see a high percentage of the boats being Sea Rays. Look on the east coast and/or Florida and the ratio is much, much less. They are floating condos that put cabin comfort first and ride quality and ability to handle rough water way down the list.
@@kbrown1350 You’re pretty much right. I love Sea Rays but if I heard correctly, a range of only 275 miles isn’t much, even inland. Their current line up is pretty sad - they abandoned the top end market but also shrunk their specialty which was the express cruiser segment in favor of bow rider-type vessels. No more 24-30 foot Sundancers that you could sleep overnight on and still trailer. They do have a few in the 32 foot plus range but they have a look only a mother could love.
What a beautiful boat! Thank you for the tour! Now, should I ever hit the lottery...this has given me a list of things I didn't even know I needed in a boat. Thanks!!
I can appreciate her beauty but I was wondering about her draft what about the max sea state could she sail I , the only reason I’m asking is because I’ve worked on fishing vessels and I’ve been in more than one storm when I’ve wondered if my trawler was going to capsize anyhoo she’s a cracking piece of kit. 🙏🙏👍
i love this boat ,their use to be a l650 by where i had my boat im a x sea ray owner 23ft an 34ft. an those were my best days, boats where great! who knows?
Wonderful and informative tour with great video quality. Well done, sir. My only concern regarding the boat is that pull-out grill on the starboard side of the cockpit. It locks into place when not in use. Does it also lock into place when it is being used? I'd hate to have a hot grill suddenly slide back shut into the compartment and spill my food everywhere.
I would love to see a Sea Ray just a bit smaller but this one is perfect for what i would like to do , Travel here in washington staate. It would make a excellent explorer yacht for crusing the puget sound and surrounding islands . Thank You again for doing the walak thru and hope you so more vedios like this.
I toured the SeaRay right next to this one as well so that’ll be on the channel either next week or the week after. It’s a more modern 510 Sundancer. So stay tuned!
I really like the fly bridge version of this boat. The downside is that searay discontinued these yachts in 2018, so i would be concerned about parts and service in the future.
I own a Sea Ray. When you say parts, the only problem would be the custom parts like the locker covers and so on. But the stuff that would break - the plumbing, chairs, winch, electronics, parts for the genny - are all available from their manufacturers. My boat is 16 years old and I can still replace the Bennett trim tabs, swim ladder, lighting fixtures, etc etc. They were all selected from solid manufacturers.
That was a good detailed description of the L650 . I really enjoyed it. I didn't know it had so much space and the master suite looks awesome. I think for a beginner boat owner this would be the ideal purchase. Again thanks allot
