Im a cabinet maker of over 25 years and played guitar for about that long (just chords). I am building my first cigar box slide guitar thanks to you. Im sure I will be making hundreds but it starts with my first "basic" build. Thank you for your videos.
Ok, I've now binged watched about 1/2 of your videos and I feel like I NEED to be in my shop - But I'm Learning So Much! Thanks for the inspiration and all the "Tricks" shared! You Shane and Glen are my CBG Norm Abrams!!
you're are so punk rock!! I'm building my first cigarbox guitar. I watched a over a hundred videos at least but because of you i have no fear. I build houses so there is always technical details. Thanks man!!!
Love your videos. I have made several CBGs and find your videos practical, down to earth and knowledgeable. I learn something new each time I watch one. You inspire me to me to try new things and improve on what I have made. Thank you.
Went to a cigar shop in the mall yesterday and came out with 10 boxes. Thanks for the idea dale. Now i know where to get a better deal on boxes than ebay.
You didn't mention what you used to finish the neck with. It turned out gorgeous for discarded "scrap" wood. 'm so blown away by the shapie painting. I've done the same thing. I spray clear gloss on top of it.
That build was really COOL. I am fired up to try my hand on building one. The smoke shop I go to to get my tobacco for my cigs had some really nice cigar boxes for sale. I like the effects that small amp has. What brand and model is it ?
Mr. Puckett, Love your instructional videos! I'm now a serious enthusiast and novice builder. I have one question: When I installed a prewired CB Gitty pickup, the volume is either full on or full off even with the volume pot. How do I fix it so I can get incremental volume?
Hello Mr. Puckett, I scored a pile of these boxes recently too. I don't see much slide playing from you and in my research about cigar box guitars, some believe that you can't set up a CBG with zero frets to play well with slide. I wonder if you can give us your thoughts on this? I also would love to do a fret job with zero fret. I love the video, thank you . Oh, do you hear a difference between string through the end of neck vs hinge ?
I leave the slide playing to the pro's like Shane Speal. I love slide but I don't have that natural slide mojo. bottomline is you need higher action for slide. this can be achieved by any number of methods. certainly a jumbo zero fret would work. I've had great luck with both the hinge and string thru. I don't have a favorite. I like them both
Hey dell , I have tried to make one ,and keep failing , I love your work , would u sell me one so I can learn to play , I have ptsd my therapist, thinks I need a hobby , I don t know about that , but have this thought of picking around a camp fire , I am beginning to have trennor s , if ever now is the time , in if you can't I understand thanks
Do you put any finish on the box itself? My currrent build (#7) is my first one using a similar box with labels on the edges and I'm worried about them wearing off. I was going to use this as an opportunity to try an all superglue finish.
I can vouch for these boxes. They sound fantastic! Here's a link to a video highlighting a ukulele I recently built with one. ua-cam.com/video/MgIwfCXUyrQ/v-deo.html

Douglas Fur and I used linseed oil mixed with equal parts dark stain... then steel wool and sharpie touch up...
Amazing sound

Cool 😎
Golden ratio soundhole placement? I have the same box, holes wound up dead on to yours "because it looked good". Pretty good tone.
I think this video is pre golden ratio. I too was blown away by the Golden ratio.

What Scale is the My Fathers Cigar box in this video? Thanks

How does this work when a bone nut is already glued in place? Do you use ruler and set it into one of the filed string grooves?
I picked up a box that says My Father Cigars, not My Father's.
I wonder if they're some kind of knock off?
After a demo like that perhaps you should sell a guitar to Laura Cox (Laura Cox Band)
YES
What about the arm. Do you build it?
What type of wood is the fretboard?
paint stick from the Home Depot...
Okay where can I get one and how much
