    "Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by pure stupidity." -Hanlon's Law
    That said, they're pretty strict on first-time voters showing ID.

  • @rmisionero
    @rmisionero 12 років тому

    It depends on your state. Some states are very strict and allow only state IDs with picture or federal ID with pictures. Examples are: Driver's License, Passport, Federal Employee ID, etc. Each state is different, and the list is not exhaustive nor it is inclusive in all states. States like California, have lenient laws, and that is why sometimes fraud can happen.

    IDs usually have people's home address and not their school address. His ID didn't match his current address. I got that same email from OSU. Here's what was in the referenced email:
    Ohio law requires every voter, upon appearing at the polling place to vote on Election Day, to announce his or her full name and current address and to provide proof of the voter's identity.
    This e-mail serves as proof of your current address as noted in The Ohio State University Student Information System (SIS).

    People who are dependents of military personnel get a Military ID. Spouses, and children under 18, or under 25 if they're in college. His mom or dad may be in the military and he has a dependency card.

    As I stated in another posting, a military ID is not a guarantee of US citizenship, unless you are an officer. Also, military ID's do not contain any reference to where you live, so they cannot be used to show you are a voter in that jurisdiction. Voters need to take responsibility to educate themselves on the eligibility laws of there area and then comply if they want to vote.

  • @rmisionero
    @rmisionero 12 років тому

    They are DoD IDs, but what throws them out has to do with laws state by state. For example, the state I live in accepts Fed and miltiary IDs as legit sources, meanwhile, other states say only state and federal IDs like passports and driver's license because those IDs are encrypted with a security chip. Today most states have that capability, Federal worker IDs have had them since 9/11/2001, and passports had them since 2006. Military, except those who have clearance, do not yet have them.

    How is it antiquated? We use the electoral college system because we have states with individual state rights which are affected differently as a result of whatever policies the candidate might make.

    As a vet I can say I support the actions of his polling place. First, military ID is NOT proof of U.S. citizenship UNLESS it shows an officer rank. All U.S. military officers are U.S. citizens. Not all enlisted are. Secondly, the military ID has not indication of WHERE you live so it is not a proof of residency. Know your residency laws and comply with them if you want to vote. To the poll workers, well done, for enforcing the law.

    He could have had a military ID from a parent. You can get a United States military ID for use on bases and such with a parent in the military, it is a valid form of identification and it even includes the parents information and rank on it.

    Ya think! It is issued by the federal government, and has your picture. In Iowa, I have never been asked to show a voter card, even though I have it in my hand with my picture ID every time. I am asked my name, am looked up in a printout of registered voters, marked off, and asked to sign a paper saying I can vote. They always seem they don't want to look at documents as it takes time. A federal military ID trumps all state ID since your back ground checked DEEPLY.

    Sounds like some voter profiling occured, call the voter hotline and report the polling station. Yes a military ID is a valid form of Identification, a service member in front of myself this morning used his, but he also had something that had his current address on it.

    I don't have a drivers licence either, he should have a state Id at least. But a driver's license is? Non-citizens can have driver's licenses and that's all I had to show to vote.
    From the Oklahoma DMV website:
    "Non-US citizens residing in Oklahoma may apply for an Oklahoma driver's license, as long as they can provide proof that they are legally authorized to be in the United States, and meet all the other requirements."
    Neither of these are "voting passes" they are just proving you are who you say you are.
    It blows my mind how ignorant people are.

    Military IDs aren't meant to be used for civilian identification. They're for getting on base and logging into computers (if you have a CAC card).
    OSU ID... pretty self-explanatory.
    SS Card has a name and number on it, but there's no way of figuring out whether or not the voter is indeed the person on the card.

    If this guy is in the military, why is his hair way outta regs? Even if he is in college atm and in the reserves or guard, his hair should not be that long. And there are different forms of military ID...for example, spouses or children dont get the same ID as an active duty soldier would get (CAC) ID card. And for the idiots who are saying everyone on the military is a US citizen is absolutley wrong. There's my 2 cents of wisdom.
