    *I use currently. Always sharp and very strong. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend have caught some good snapper on these, and never had a hook break or bend.*

    Great video.
    Clear succinct instruction with no distractions. Best “how to” that I have seen.

    already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

    Thank you for sharing this video. I am just getting into jig fishing and would also like to start making my own assist hook rigs. Would you mind sharing the places you are sourcing your Terminal Tackle and also those pliers? I could use a sturdy pair like those.

      Hi, The pliers are Shimano Ocea 7" pliers, they are great and we use them on our charter boat each day. We get the red kevlar assist line and hooks from Hunting & Fishing New Zealand

    Plan to use this for bluefin assist hks that are bomb proof. The hooks Ive ordered are BKK jig hooks (heavy) which are nice & short in sizes 7/0, 8/0 & 9/0 (these for 250-400 gram jigs). 2 questions for you - the host of fishing kit in 1 of his videos mentioned a type of hk coated (ptfe?) for easier penetration - any hooks in particular you prefer for heavy assist hks? 2. The braided kevlar in 300 lb test you show in this video who. Sells it pls. Thank you.

    Great video. I think I have the knot memorised now! By the way, do you use a swivel with your jigs? If not, what's the thinking there?

      I use a swivel when I use a spinning reel to stop line twist.

    He dado 👍por la elaboración, pero el tamaño del anzuelo usado como assit NUNCA debe permitir que el cuerpo del Jig pueda ser abrazado por dicho anzuelo.

    Just a question here, the bottom of the jig has an eyelet are hooks added to the bottom as well or only just the assist hook at the top of the jig ? Cheers.

    • @JourneyofaFisherman
      @JourneyofaFisherman  4 роки тому +1

      I only use a hook on the assist cord at the top of the jig, hooks on the bottom can snag the bottom and not required for fish like yellowtail kingfish

      No I dont use shrink tube, I like to keep it simple and the knot holds itself tight.

  • @pinoygoodeats

    I see you tie your main line to the solid ring. But if you are going to use snaps swivels, are you still gonna rig it to the solid ring? If we are using swivels, we usually rig it to the split ring. Does it matter if its rig on the split or unto the solid ring?

    • @JourneyofaFisherman
      @JourneyofaFisherman  5 років тому +2

      If you want to use a swivel replace the solid ring with the eye of the swivel, we do this when using spin outfits. we do not use snap swivels when jigging as we do not want to risk a snap swivel opening and loosing a fish.

    Nice vid. Do guys use swivels with these rigs? Seems like most videos show tying the main line direct to the solid ring?

    • @JourneyofaFisherman
      @JourneyofaFisherman  4 роки тому +1

      We only use swivels on top of the solid ring when using spinning reel to prevent line twist. Over head reels are fine.

    I like your way of tying up an assist hook but that's closer to a double overhand dropper knot tied over the hook shank with a rizzuto-ish finish....for those who like to get technical.
