*I use currently. Always sharp and very strong. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend have caught some good snapper on these, and never had a hook break or bend.*
already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.
Thank you for sharing this video. I am just getting into jig fishing and would also like to start making my own assist hook rigs. Would you mind sharing the places you are sourcing your Terminal Tackle and also those pliers? I could use a sturdy pair like those.
Hi, The pliers are Shimano Ocea 7" pliers, they are great and we use them on our charter boat each day. We get the red kevlar assist line and hooks from Hunting & Fishing New Zealand
Plan to use this for bluefin assist hks that are bomb proof. The hooks Ive ordered are BKK jig hooks (heavy) which are nice & short in sizes 7/0, 8/0 & 9/0 (these for 250-400 gram jigs). 2 questions for you - the host of fishing kit in 1 of his videos mentioned a type of hk coated (ptfe?) for easier penetration - any hooks in particular you prefer for heavy assist hks? 2. The braided kevlar in 300 lb test you show in this video who. Sells it pls. Thank you.
He dado 👍por la elaboración, pero el tamaño del anzuelo usado como assit NUNCA debe permitir que el cuerpo del Jig pueda ser abrazado por dicho anzuelo.
Just a question here, the bottom of the jig has an eyelet are hooks added to the bottom as well or only just the assist hook at the top of the jig ? Cheers.
I see you tie your main line to the solid ring. But if you are going to use snaps swivels, are you still gonna rig it to the solid ring? If we are using swivels, we usually rig it to the split ring. Does it matter if its rig on the split or unto the solid ring?
If you want to use a swivel replace the solid ring with the eye of the swivel, we do this when using spin outfits. we do not use snap swivels when jigging as we do not want to risk a snap swivel opening and loosing a fish.
I like your way of tying up an assist hook but that's closer to a double overhand dropper knot tied over the hook shank with a rizzuto-ish finish....for those who like to get technical.

Great video.
Clear succinct instruction with no distractions. Best “how to” that I have seen.
(I have seen a lot)
Thanks mate!

Great video. I think I have the knot memorised now! By the way, do you use a swivel with your jigs? If not, what's the thinking there?
I use a swivel when I use a spinning reel to stop line twist.
Thanks for tutor.. Maybe i can try at home
interesting video keep it up 👍
Basically you just using figure of 8 knot to the hook
Nice video 🙏
Thanks for sharing bro 👍🏻🇵🇭

I only use a hook on the assist cord at the top of the jig, hooks on the bottom can snag the bottom and not required for fish like yellowtail kingfish
Nice info...
Thank you 😊
Hello what brand are those jigs and where can i buy them?
Thank you
Jigs are Shimano Pebble Stick jigs. Most stores in NZ sell them.
Love to be informed...
Good vidio friend
Thank you sir👍👍👍
thanks bro
Good,like me
What make are the cutters please, they seemed to cut very well.
Shimano Ocea split ring pliers, they are great general purpose fishing pliers
Never mentioned most important part , matching hooks to the jig or the game we are after . What gives mate ?
Why forward and why not retry???
Berapa gram itu metal jignya mister,? 🤝🔔👍🏼🙏🏼
Can I tie the chord on the eye of the hook
Hi, where can I find the thread for the assists .... thanks !!!
Where can I buy that quality Kevlar line?? Greatly appreciate that info as I live in the USA.
Saltywater Tackle in the US has kevlar cord, Sami is a mate of mine and I sure he will help you out.
@@JourneyofaFisherman I really appreciate your reply back. I will definitely reach out to Sami. Big Thank You again!!!!
Do you use heat shrink wrap or whip thread over the back of the knot ever?
No I dont use shrink tube, I like to keep it simple and the knot holds itself tight.
@0:04 do you mean you have a problem saying "assist" hooks?
What hook do you suggest for assist making? Live Bait one? Specific for jigging seems very expensive to me ...
Gamakatsu Tuned size 35 hook is what we use.

what sort of hooks are those all the hooks i can find have small eyelets
Gamakatsu Tuned hook size 30
hi there- how strong are those solid and split rings here? cheers!
We have never had then break and fishing 80lb braid with 12kgs of drag.
@@JourneyofaFisherman cheers- do you know the size of the rings? Thanks!
Они там что крокодилов ловят?
My friend good day where did you buy your red kevlar line and do you know ygk assist cord ? Thank you
Nice vid. Do guys use swivels with these rigs? Seems like most videos show tying the main line direct to the solid ring?
We only use swivels on top of the solid ring when using spinning reel to prevent line twist. Over head reels are fine.

No need too technical with names that too long to even remember. Just need plain simple tutorial
The knot is at 1:26. You are welcome.
Would paracord work as a substitute for kevlar?
