I find it necessary. Labor strikes are planned such that the point is to creat maximum disruption to demonstrate their value and force a deal.
@@terrancecloverfield6791is that very well may be but I've seen that happen in the end of sending jobs out of the country. Businesses have left this country because of unions wanting to Skyrocket wages. Except a reasonable paycheck and be happy you have a job.
Holding a strike during a time of a State of Emergency is hurting the Dock Workers. I say follow the money. Whoever is advising them that this is a sure fire way to get attention speaks with a forked tongue. It’s getting attention alright, but it’s not the kind of attention they were promised. Robots do not think for themselves, people do…. and I suggest people start using the brain GOD gave them and not rely on False Leaders with agendas that are not in line with the workers goals……THINK

And think about how fortunate you are to have such a high paying job to begin with. There are tons of people that are unemployed people living in the streets because they've been unemployed so long they no longer have unemployment and they can't find work because they don't have a home.
AI/Automation will not take of Families. PEOPLE DO. How many more unemployed people do we need?

In my opinion, I believe that union officials are aware that many of their members will soon be replaced by automated machines; this is unavoidable. They are trying to secure as much compensation as possible from the port before that transition occurs. It’s not about the workers; it’s about how much they can extract before the inevitable happens.

@@f.j.c4444 It's not unavoidable if they force a deal now. That is because the east coast ILA have demonstrated they are all united. How long will it take international distributors and the local distributors to set up their own lines, their own machines, their own technicians, negotiating all land use rights and secure all liability insurances before they ultimately replace all the dockworkers there? Many jobs on the port are specialized and require skilled labor to handle the different supply lines, different cargo, different inclement conditions on the fly.
There is a reason, despite the welcoming of automation at UPS and FedEx, their freight is still handled by people. And there is a reason why Walmart decided to walk back self-checkout lanes in recent years due to theft. It's where I believe the salaries are more important than the fear of automation since they're negotiating 6 year contracts. But I don't disagree with your narrative either. I've met my fair share of union mob boss in California with the Teachers unions and the Hollywood unions.
@@f.j.c4444that's not inevitable. It'll only happen if we let it happen. And I don't trust machines. You're going to have a lot more damage stuff using machines than people. Plus they're already making a ton more than the rest of us are. Be realistic. The economy sucks we're in trouble and you're griping about an $80,000 a year job?! That's insane! And I don't think we need to go with automation. We need to keep people working and being able to support their families. All this computer stuff is stupid and needs to end
Lawmakers need to consider introducing legislation to resolve the strike. This might include measures such as:
1. Declaring the strike a "public emergency" would allow the government to take emergency action such as declaring a state or national emergency or invoking legislation to force a settlement.
2. Propose a bill to extend the collective bargaining agreement currently in place or establish a new agreement with fair terms.
3. Impose fines or other penalties on those who take part in the strike
We already have the Taft-Hartley ACT. Biden could stop this like he did the railroad strike in 2022, he's choosing not to.
If you're making that much money an hour and you're complaining about it you can be replaced. You can be replaced with somebody who wants to work who's willing to work and not whine

Enjoy your strike pay. You can not force companies to not automate. These unions are way out of line. And the Government should not allow any group to stop the shipping in the country.
15,000 workers ? It's $45,000 did I hear that right ? That's a huge mistake right in the beginning of the broadcast . One thing I also noticed by me personally is trains have stopped or slowed . Don't forget they carry all those containers . On a normal day I probably see maybe 5 trains go by . I have not noticed 1 train go, by it's been silent . It's not just affecting the port's.
Is it going to affect everyone. The thing is we need to do away with automation. People need to be able to work to earn a living. They need to stop cutting corners and cutting people out of work. And then if you have a job and you have a reasonable pay which to me there's a way more than reasonable they should be extremely happy and shut up and take it
Post asks,"how might it be resolved"? Ports may right away go to full automation like Port of Shanghai, & give what few workers left a ultimatum. Realisicly, the ILA hasn't much leverage. If corporate entities could replace OTR truck drivers they would but that's impractical. So Democrat polititions created the dereuglation act of 1979 to break the Union & make trucking effectively "slave labor" !

Honestly, I'd rather pay higher prices for rerouting these vessels now and avoid shortages. One way or another the American people are going to pay more. Caving to blackmail and extortion just doesn't sit well with me.
I’m sorry but I think what they are asking for is just NOT REASONABLE they need to work while working on their wants…. Also unions are not really good for workers as much anymore. We need things especially the people trying to recover from the hurricane. If you are making 80k or more right now you are just being greedy. It is unfortunate that automation is taking over,so instead of striking to get as much as you can,you need to look ahead and try to get some training while you can so you can get a new good job before your current job goes away instead of waiting until the day your job ends. I’m not saying that it doesn’t suck that automation is taking over but that’s been going on for a while and if you do nothing but sit and watch the train coming and you don’t get out of they way you will get run over.
I say we put a stop to automation. Let people work for a living like they want and need to do. I'm on disability I can't work but I would much rather be working than sitting at home.

I just wish I had a paycheck big enough to pay all my bills. Disability does not pay well. Even though I was working two and three jobs a lot of the time I was working.

First of all I think automation is a horrible mistake. All it does is take away jobs. And then you complain about the economy being in such horrible condition. Which do you want do you want automation or do you want jobs? Personally I would rather have jobs. As far as the pay 77% increase! That's insane. If they're making more than $25 an hour they need to reduce pay if they want that much increase. No one else makes that kind of money.

@@supergram7409I agree. The automation needs to stop. Stores in banks are using ATMs and Serve Yourself cash registers. I know someone who told a Walmart employee when they said I'll come over here and use the self-checkout they said I don't work here. I just left work. If you want to put me on payroll I'll check myself out. Otherwise get somebody up here to wait on us. And I agree with that completely. They're taking away jobs and then wonder why we have a sucky economy. But then on the other hand if they want that much more money when they're already getting an astronomical amount of money and if they can't be happy living on such high paychecks they need their paychecks cut so they can see what the rest of us live on. Just like our government needs to be cut for that reason. And then hire somebody who wants to work and not whine and complain. There are a lot of people who would love to have those kind of wages
