      Another good name for it that we use in California is a lipper

  • @bradywooten650

    I started out my apprenticeship decking nothing wrong with that my first "lipper" was made on site out of backer bar from the welders . Good video and always remember a tool always works better when you fabricated it yourself.

    I made my first Lipper in 1985 out of 1"x3/8" back-up bar. I notched the side and welded a 7/8" low profile hardened nut into the notch. The nut was reassessed into the bar about 3/8"
    I used a hammer to strike the nut to drive the bar under a sheet that has been welded down to break the weld so we could remove or reposition the sheet.
    The nut was also cool when I used it to spin the lipper on my finger like a gun slinger.

    I got into local #86 in 1979 and by '81 or'82 I got with a decking company (Ripple decking) that kept me working for 5 1/2 years. We just used a big flat tip screw driver or a claw hammer.

      No offense taken.... But I came straight outta high school started at 20 bucks an hour with raises every 6 months with insurance pension and annuity not counting vacation checks... it’s a good stepping stone in life but check like everything it’s what you make it.... I’m only 25 and I’m a Jiw own my own house don’t owe anything on my big truck... but I’ve almost dead/been real hurt a bunch of times.... I’ve been extremely hot and extremely cold.... it’s not the weak... survival of the fittest out here....

      Michael Elliott just go apply at your local union hall when you’re 18 and you’ll go on a list to get hired and when they interview you kill it and do your 4 year apprenticeship and be all dialed by 22 making 80k a year!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

    If you don’t use malleable rebar, it will just snap. Standard rebar is brittle. . That’s why you make it out of hot rolled round bar

    Hey fellow ironworkers I just purchased a 3/4 proto connecting bar. I was just wondering what you guys think of a 3/4 vs a 7/8?

    • @ChantzFabz
      @ChantzFabz  7 років тому +2

      John Geise it would be good for small stuff... but in Portland I rarely see a 3/4 bolt usually 7/8 and 1” so I have a 7/8 hex bar for my personal use... BUTTTT it’s not what I do, it’s whatever you like and feel safe with brother

      7/8 is a great bar for all facets of our line of work. I personally found a 3/4 to be useless. 7/8 is great for really leaning into prying or manipulating iron for bolt up or walking a beam into a web. I've had great luck with a goose neck hex bar a brother from 700 showed me. IW 97 here

      I really dig the AHP machines. I have no loyalty to any brand, but AHP is quickly earning that loyalty. I also noticed you got the same Miller classic series helmet that I use most of time. Thanks for sharing your deck tool, btw. Subbed, you got some nifty vids already. Can't wait to see some of your future vids.

    Good old lipper brings back the days of being a 2nd period apprentice crimping all the deck wrong and not giving two fucks until old timer came and chewed me out. He showed me his lipper and taught me how to unfuck the fuck up, moral of the story I never did deck again.
