Must be cold if you are breaking out some pants! No sound for parts of this video too. Captioning still works though. That is a pretty good rock scramble there in parts. Beautiful views from up there. Watch that first step its a Lulu! Dang, that was quite the fall. That is not a fun way of getting a close look at the ground. Glad you did not get hurt any worse. At least you were able to hike out of this one. Well done on your hike and climb. You even got to bring home a souvenir hanging off your glasses. LOL. Take care and be safe. Have a great day and a Happy New Year!
Hmmm funny about the sound, as when I was not talking there should have been music playing, so unsure what happened there. I have had many falls over the years hiking but that one was the worst, really shook me up and grateful it was not any worse than it turned out to be. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
First of all, I really hope you're ok after your fall Alan, I actually felt sick after seeing you had hurt yourself. It is a bit scary when you're hiking alone sometimes, for that reason alone. Yet you still had a smile on your face, bless ya! The mic is fantastic. I'm not going to lie, your sound wasn't great before, especially as I'm hard of hearing, but the sound was spot on! Thirdly, you've added Place Fell to my list now, thank you!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment and to be honest, that fall really shock me up, I have had a few before over the years but this one was far and away the worst and taught me (another ) lesson - hopefully :o). Good audio has always been a problem, so hopefully these new mics have solved it and sorry for the poor quality before :o( . Place Fell is a great fell to do and still a real favourite of mine, lost count of the times I have been up there and not one you are going to get lost one. Mrs Metalman hates me walking by myself, so always happy when I walk with someone else but 2024 has been such a miserable year with the weather, this has to be the first ever year, I have solo walked all year. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciate. A very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
20:12 what a cool shot that is Alan. Ugh - that fall.. oh man. That made me cringe...getting hurt out there could be so bad. 28:59 thick ice!!! Merry Christmas buddy! A great video.
Yep, that fall really shook me up, had many of them over the years but this one really hurt, just thankful I was able to get back down. I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas, cheers Alan
Another Cracking Wainwright recorded for our pleasure , great views and good clear narration with your new microphones , That fall was a bit if a shocker and quickly sharpens the mind having done similar myself , Your new clothing definitely worked 100% in those Baltic conditions, Great video and looking forward to more of the same in the New Year , Catch you in the next one ..Kev
Glad you enjoyed it Kev and yes, that really shock me up, had a canny few over the years but this was the worst. Still, grateful to be still here and still in one piece too. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
As you started to hike up, I discovered the ground and vegetation are frozen...Brrrr..I just spend 80s in Everglade FL with in-laws haha Nice to see pretty weather and sun is up, what's the beauty! Panoramic view...23:10 Ohhh, I miss hiking, Alan. I feel the air is crisp and cold. I feel a little pain on my legs I feel the triumph of joy at the destination. OMGoodness...Alan. I bet that incident scares Mrs. Metalman... First, I thought you were acting...ooops I pray for your full recovery. ouch. Look forward to any projects in 2025
It is going to be -10C (14F) tonight in the North of England with snow and ice over the weekend, so I could do with some of that Florida warmth and sunshine lol. I have had many falls while out hiking over the years but this one was the worst, it really shook me up and my hip was black and blue for weeks afterwards. Fingers crossed there will be no more of them in 2025. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
Wow fantastic. What a superb day, on a day like that I think the northern lakes are as beautiful as anywhere on earth. That was a wake up moment for me when you fell
It sure was, really shook me up and I have had a canny few over the years but that one was the worst. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
I enjoyed your witty narration, but even more the beautiful landscapes you took us through. Breathtaking views, a beautiful day with the sun breaking through the clouds, fantastic scenery 👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it and (fall apart) I did took it has always been one on my favourite fells and holds so many good memories for me. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Oh Alan, hope you are ok. You were lucky. I have done a few walks in the winter and each time I have fallen over. I have decided now to not do it in the winter and just wait for Spring, Summer and Autumn. As a solo walker things like that knock my confidence. Glad you are ok
Appreciate that and I have had a canny few falls before but this was the worst and really shook me up. No matter how careful you think you are, you can always have a fall, I am just so grateful it was not any worse than it was. Appreciate you stopping by, real good of you, cheers Alan
You got that right Max, dam chill but made up for it with the amazing views. Sucks having a fall and I have had a few over the years but this one sure was the worst one. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Thank you and a fall that really shook me up, never had one as bad as that one before. Thanks very much for watching and I hope you had a great Christmas, cheers Alan
Some fantastic landscapes and what a great day for it - even if a little cold :) Good idea to answer questions on the video - I might pinch that idea too :) Hope you're OK after the 'slip'. All the best, Rob
It was the worst slip I have had and I have had a few but it could have been even worse, so real grateful it was not. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Had my fair share of them over the years but this one really shook me up and still black and blue because of it as well. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
So lovely around there Alan but a bit precarious in places and scary to slip especially when you are on your own. Glad you were OK and that the GoPro was OK too. That jacket sounds amazing and the views all around absolutely stunning, no wonder you enjoy it each time you go. Wishing you and Mrs M a blessed and peaceful Christmas and verry happy new year ~ Anna 🎄☃️
First time I had used my new mics, just attached them to my GoPro and promptly dropped the lot direct onto the road - that should have warned me of things to come.....Thankfully all the hardware was okay and apart from a nasty bump on the side of my face and my hip being black and blue all week, I am still here to tell the tails :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
Could not believe it when I turned around and saw that flying towards me and I even had my camera rolling too :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Beautiful views my friend. Glad you’re ok after the tumble. I think we’ve all done it at least once and in my case, too many to number. Funniest one was falling down a set of frozen cascades with snowshoes on. Didn’t hurt but I couldn’t stop and everytime I thought I caught my footing I was off again. Ha ha ha. Stay safe brother and merry Christmas to you and your family. 👍👍🎄🎁
You and me both with the falls, had so many over the years but this one was the worst one by far. Grateful to still be in one piece to be honest, someone looking after me again :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
Nice hike, Alan! I see you have all the warm clothes on that you featured in your past videos. The views were definitely superb on this hike! Too bad you couldn't get the drone up, but you don't want to lose the thing, obviously. That was a hell of a fall, and I am glad that you are ok!
Worse fall I have ever had but could have been so much worse, so real grateful it wasn't. Haha, yes, not way I was sending the drone up in those winds, especially after that fall my head was still spinning :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Appreciate it and I was worried about the sound with dropping my GoPro on the road before I even started hiking - not the start I was hoping for lol. Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
We were really worried when the video started. Alan, I don't know, but you were lucky because the way you fell didn't look pretty. This is a good time for fractures. We hope you didn't get too hurt, and there wasn't anyone around you. Uh, you did well, but it happens to everyone. Take care and Merry Christmas. Sretana and Zac. 🖐😊🤗
It's something we all do in the end, no matter how careful you think you are being and I have had a few over the years but this was my worst, really shook me up. Still, still here, still in one piece and still grateful for all of those things. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
I reckon those mics are cursed Alan. First you drop your Go Pro, then yourself. At least they're robust after two tumbles in one day and the audio was perfect. Looked a great walk with some stunning views, worth the injuries to your face (and pride). The views of the lake at the end was stunning too.
Could not believe it, just attached them to my GoPro, first time I had used them and dropped the whole lot direct onto the road lol! Thanks fully they were already, I on the other hand took my worst ever fall, really shook my up and still black and blue now. My body will recover my my pride never will. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Fantastic views looked like you hit lucky with the weather but not with your footing hope it wasn't to bad great route I think Robinson was my first next step up good little scramble with some height to it. Top notch vid once again🎉
Thanks very much for watching and it is a great path up and a real favourite Fell of mine too. That summit area to actually get to the cairn is always sketchy and it really caught me out this time. A Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
You were right about the fall Alan ! Bloody hell. Pleased you’re ok 👍🏻 good job it wasn’t striding or sharp edge ! Place Fell iis defo one we’ll pick up next year, thanks for sharing
I think they may be off limits for me now, done Striding Edge 3 times and Sharp Edge 4 times, so do not want to push my luck :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you all, cheers Alan
Hollywood quality! Free parking! Red Squirrel? Great plane shot. Really does look a perfect day for hiking. Two years of questions! Good question from butchyboy! Great deal on the Hollylands! Catstye Cam one of our faves. Come on Moosehill, let’s do the scramble! Great audio quality from a distance. Yikes that ice looks sketchy. Lovely trig at the summit. Nasty fall, glad you’re ok! Do moosehill do a bubble wrap range? Trend setting with that blade of grass! Yikes more ice to get through, id have lost my confidence after that fall. Hope you have had a wonderful time at the Impeccable Pig. 👍
Apart from dropping the new mics and GoPro direct onto the road at the start (that should have warned me of things to come) it was a great start to the day, especially on one of my all time favourite Fells. That fall really shook me up and by far and away, the worst one I have ever had (and I have had a few). Still, still here to talk about it and so grateful for that, the perils of solo walking I suppose. Disappointing time at The Impeccable Pig and all will be revealed next Sunday :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
@ Merry Christmas to you and your family too Alan. Sorry to hear about the impeccable pig but am very excited for the video review! Yes falls really knock the confidence dont they? Ive had a couple this year, that combined with less time in the great outdoors has really done a number on both of us. It did look a horrific place to have a fall, im glad you weren’t bad,y hurt.
Hahaha alan I don't think I've passed many too😂😂😂 cheers for answering the question and much appreciated for shout out marra means alot from a great chanel like yours marra this is one ive have left for to do a camp on next summer so it was great to see the route up there mate I tell you what for all its cold the clear skys and views were brilliant mate pleased you were OK there after that fall but I'm not gonna lie ive rewinded 5 times it was like you new it was coming there's one thing about me I would help anyone after a fall but I would be laughing in the process but totally agree when you are in the fells it's a scary place lying there hurt 😂absolutely brilliant mate and good on ya getting down there in this weather I wish I had time off work to do one in the snow but there's always 2025 all the best and a merry Xmas cheers ....BUTCHY
Haha, yes, had more than my fair share if falls over the years but this was was the worst and really shock me up, my hips is still black and blue and my head was thumping all the way down but it could have been so much worse. No problem with the shout out, been going to do it for a while and then your question reminded me. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
@AlanMETALMAN yeah just pleased your ok alan it looked a danger fall ive watch it over and over and to be fair I seen earlier on that you hadn't replying to any one and was wondering if everything was OK but now you've replied I gather your back on ya feet even with a few bruises it did look like it could have been a lot worse there mate but the metal man will bounce back soon lol take care mate catch up soon
Great day out Alan with beautiful views. Sorry to see you take a fall, that hurts! Glad to know you were able take care of yourself and that you weren't hurt badly. Extra good that you had warm clothes so you could sit down for a bit if needed. Those rocks looked jagged and slippery. Do you guys have Garmin InReach available? I bought one and pay about $15. per month so that I can call out for help by Satellite if needed- there's an SOS button plus I can also use it to text Steve. Having one along makes me feel better when I'm out hiking alone. Btw, your mic sounds great. Take care and have a Merry Christmas!! All the best from Washington!! -Jen 🎄🎄🎄
I have looked at them before but they look quite expensive, which I do not mind, if they do the job but it is the monthly subscription that was the deal breaker for me. I have had many falls before over the years but this was was the worst and really shook me up, my hip was black and blue for over a week and my head was thumping on the way down but it could have been so much worse. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN I’ve used the “ send beacon text” option on Strava several times in the past to let my wife monitor my progress when I’m out alone in the hills. You’ve shown just how easy something awful could happen to anyone, I’m going to use it always from now on
Very easily marra and I am used to having a fall, had a canny few over the years but this one was the worst, really shook me up. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Great one Alan 👍😃❤️ What a tumble though! You be careful out there. What's the mics you git? I missed that. I'm all DJI. Mainly as they connect straight to the Pocket 3 (which isn't as robust as a GoPro). Hope you have a good one and I'll catch you later 😉
It was the Hollyland M2 and really happy with them but from I hear the DJI mics are just as goo but a bit bigger. Yes, that fall really shook me up, so hopefully that one will last me for a good while to come :o). Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
Hey Alan 😊 I really like the walk up there to place fell. You got a lovely day to visit. Great shot of the low flying plane at the start. Angle tarn was my first ever wild camp in the lakes too, pre my UA-cam channel though. I loved it there. Do you have a fav Lake District wild camp experience? Great views at the summit and it is a good little scramble. I didn’t mind the scramble there it was fun and didn’t set off my vertigo which was good. The microphone looks to be good could hear you really clearly throughout.
Has to be one of my all time favourite Fells , even after the fall too, it still is a favourite and real pleased with the new mics and at the price I got them for, they were an absolute steal. I have added your question to my final page :o). Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Great video, Alan, that's one fell we have yet to do. That was some fall you took, I thought you'd be hurt after it, but you did well to just have a bruise. You got outstanding views all the way so worth the pain. You've deservedly done superbly well with your channel, and you've got some great kit now, hopefully youtube give you a good return. I've battled a bit with whether to keep doing videos so my question is "Why do you make youtube videos? Or are you doing the hikes to make a video or are you doing the hikes because you enjoy the hikes? Does filming and all the kit that goes with that get in the way of enjoying the fells?" I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm saying. I honestly feel at times I'd enjoy it more if I put away the camera and looked all around me. I've got 30 day of filming from our holiday to process - i'm conflicted because friends and family want to see what we did, but I know the work required to process and edit it all. Sorry, bit of a rant. Have a great Christmas, best wishes, Andrea and Ashley
Yes I still have that bruise on my hip and a fall that really shook my up, as it was flat out onto rocks and my head was thumping all the way down but it could have been so much worse. My channel keeps me busy, something I like, as I need to be busy, all day, every day, with a nice 20 -30 minute nap just after my dinner :o). Nothing worse then being bored, as that leads on to being lazy and finishing off doing nothing, just waiting for your final time to come - give me YT any day. Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN I did laugh when I saw your feet in the air but then i quickly realised you might be hurt and changed my mood - fair play for including it - makes the video even more memorable. The things you do for views!!!
Does your coat heat up in the arms as well? ..... For some reason I got the vest but I'd be willing to invest in the jacket if it's arms are electrified as well ..... Have a Merry Christmas, bro.
No they are just chest, back and next but still nice and warm, so I am still super happy with them and the pants too. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Morning Alan. What a beautiful day you had there mate, stunning views from Place Fell. I hope you got that lump checked out on your face, that looked sore. Thanks for sharing all your adventures over the last 12 months, all the best for the new year and 2025. 😀🥾⛰

Thank you 🇨🇦
Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Hi Alan it looks so gorgeous here, I'll catch it over breakfast as family are here but left a like 👍 in advance ~ Anna
Thanks vey nice of you Anna :o)
@@AlanMETALMAN Yikes, so glad it wasn’t worse! 👌
@@AlanMETALMAN I’ve used the “ send beacon text” option on Strava several times in the past to let my wife monitor my progress when I’m out alone in the hills. You’ve shown just how easy something awful could happen to anyone, I’m going to use it always from now on
pleased your ok that fall could of spoilt a good day 👍
Very easily marra and I am used to having a fall, had a canny few over the years but this one was the worst, really shook me up.
The view is so Amazing Stay Connected With Us.....
Appreciate you stopping by, good of you, cheers Alan
Thanks for the beautiful video. Wish you a Merry Christmas 😊
Thanks very much, a real favourite Fell of mine, despite falling. Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Nice one 😊
Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
merry Christmas my friends
Thanks very much for watching John and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Awelsome views
Thank you, real good of you. Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan
Does your coat heat up in the arms as well? ..... For some reason I got the vest but I'd be willing to invest in the jacket if it's arms are electrified as well ..... Have a Merry Christmas, bro.
29:10 I just caught that after commenting.
Haha, no proplem :o)
No they are just chest, back and next but still nice and warm, so I am still super happy with them and the pants too. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you, cheers Alan

Worst fall I have ever had, really shook me up, so I am hoping this is my lot now for a good while :o). I hope you had a great Christmas, thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
