One of those songs that reminds me that, yes, some rock songs are all-time masterpieces.

The Vietnam war was raging in 1969, the lyrics reflected what we saw on the evening news every night. I’ve always liked the ending lyrics, ‘Love is just a Kiss Away.’

The Stones are my favorite. Been around since 1962 and still tour & record. Their single "Angry" was the #1 song last October.

anti war? yawn....there is that boomer lie again...... aaah yes...that tired myth... interesting..... I will call you on it ,,,,,,,, " what part of this song do they say anything against war"? ( i have been down this road 1000 times)... so again, i ask..... what lyric is anti war ?? tell me, where in this song do they say anything anti war???..... funfact..! In a 2017 interview with Jeff Giles,
, Richards revealed that the track wasn’t conceived of as a capsule of late ’60’s anxiety; in fact, he wrote most of it in 20 minutes after seeing people running outside in a thunderstorm in London. ...
...Richards said that the song's intense lyrics -- weren't initially any part of the inspiration behind the music. Instead, he was inspired to grab his guitar after literally watching people trying to get out of the rain.
"I had been sitting by the window of my friend Robert Fraser’s apartment on Mount Street in London with an acoustic guitar when suddenly the sky went completely black and an incredible monsoon came down. It was just people running about looking for shelter - that was the germ of the idea," said Richards. "We went further into it until it became, you know, rape and murder are ‘just a shot away.’"
please boomers ,, stop twisting history for your own selfish feelings...

@@kaychristensen4394 here, I will let boomers explain it to you gramps...
from boomer Jeremy Paxman: "I am part of the most selfish generation in history and we should be ashamed of our legacy, I belong to the Boomer generation - a fact I feel increasingly uncomfortable about. No wonder we thought we had it all. Compared to those who came before, we did.
from esquire magazine: "As they enter late middle age, the Boomers still can't grow up. Guys who once dropped acid are now downing Viagra; women who once eschewed lipstick are now getting liposuction. At the risk of feeding their narcissism, I believe it's time someone stated the simple truth: The Baby Boomers are the most self-centered, self-seeking, self-interested, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing generation in American history."
The "Me" generation is a term referring to Baby Boomers in the United States and the self-involved qualities associated with this generation. The 1970s was dubbed the "Me decade" by writer Tom Wolfe; Christopher Lasch wrote about the rise of a culture of narcissism among younger Baby Boomers. The phrase became popular at a time when "self-realization" and "self-fulfillment" were becoming cultural aspirations to which young people supposedly ascribed higher importance than social responsibility.
so anyway, every generation, including boomers,, realize how absolutely selfish you are, you'll get over it grampa. get in your lil scooter and go to nap time.

One of their very best, for another, do Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Great tunes, they are still rocking out and touring in their 62nd year, how insane is that!?! And they still sound great. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎷🎶

Despite the syrupy sweet intro the track gets grittier. Written while Vietnam raged overseas and the protests raged stateside, the feeling it all could come apart any second was very real at the time. (It's just a shot away). Great lyrics: Burns like a red coal carpet, mad bull lost it's way. One of their best ever, truly expressing the social climate of the 60s

I cringe at the thought of this song being remastered by some idiot young hot shot producer who would auto tune "fix" Merry Clayton's voice breaking & cracking in a couple of places during her solo . Idiot hot shot young producer doesn't understand that those "imperfections" are what makes that solo so impactful & perfect .

There are three distinct eras of The Rolling Stones, depending on who the second guitar player was. The run they had from 1968-1972 is one of the greatest in rock n roll history. For live footage of them at their peak, anything from 1972 is highly recommended, especially "Love In Vain", "Bye Bye Johnny", "Street Fighting Man" and others, mostly from the film "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones." Enjoy!

The Rolling Stones rank high among the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. They formed in London in 1962 and released their most recent album last year, sixty one years later. They've released somewhere around forty studio albums during that time, including a string of albums in the late sixties that defined that era and the next. For another taste of their groove, check out "Miss You", "Hot Stuff", "2000 Light Years From Home", and "Under My Thumb" and for a taste of their pop, check out "Ruby Tuesday", "Beast of Burden", "Mother's Little Helper", and "Start Me Up", and for a taste of their country style, check out "Wild Horses", "Dead Flowers", and "Far Away Eyes".

Mick Jagger is quite a good harmonica player, just like Robert Plant from Zeppelin. He is the first and quintessential front man. He made the mold. He is also a chicken. lol. CAN"T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT........BROWN SUGAR..........JUMPIN JACK FLASH..............PAINT IT BLACK...........SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL...........ANGIE..........MISSING YOU

war is just a shot away
rape and murder are just a shot away
but love is also just a kiss away
to me that says war can happen any moment. one hateful act can trigger it. and with war comes rape and murder. so instead of commiting that one hateful act that leads to war let's just make out and love each other.
it's a prime example of the "make love, not war" philosophy^^

This is a song about the Vietnam War. So you have to take the lyrics into context. The anti-war movement was in full swing and the kids were protesting and pissed off. This is a song trying to wake people up.

Her take on the track is dead on. " 0:23 Chaos could ensue at any moment"
In 68 with Vietnam raging and the various protests and riots in the streets it's a very relevant song. Could it happen again? You bet your ass it could!
