    the song has become at least manageable now but that bridge is a NO. it’s still very childish.

      i feel every first single she releases is completely different from the rest of her album; like Shake It Off and LWYMMD but it’s like they define the era esthetic more than lyrically with the videos.

      this song had absolutely everything to do with her new era. This is a defining song, no matter how childish. The butterfly IS her new era, that’s why the snake from Reputation explodes into butterflies. There’s a LOT of easter eggs and deeper meanings in this song and video.

      I hate the bridge. "Hey kids, spelling is funnn!" "You can't spell awesome without me!"
      Brendon Urie literally added nothing to the song and clearly he did it just for the money and the fame.
      (I'm a fan of Brendon Urie, I'm not trying to attack Brendon or Taylor.)

      Idk about that. I liked Taylor from 07 up to 2014. I always liked her. I was listening to a Carly Rea Jepsen station and Our Song came on and in like “these lyrics are great I wonder who helped her write it. When I saw it was her alone I became a huge fan. Not because of 1989.

    Some shit:
    - Personally, I like it. She said in an Instagram live that it was made for fun and that it shouldn't be taken seriously at all. Just let artists do what they want to do, sometimes making an industry shaking album is not what some of these big artists want. They're people, and sometimes they just want to mess around.
    - Brendon Urie is indeed one of this generation's most talented singers. But apparently he was the one who came up with "Spelling is Fun!", so you don't have to blame Taylor so much for that. (Alright, Brendon didn't make the "Spelling is Fun!" part but he *did* make the rest of the bridge. And the guy in the video was talking about the bridge too.)
    - Have you ever seen Brendon not singing? He's the most adorable little thing you will ever come across. Though most, if not all, his songs seem serious, sometimes artists want to break out of their comfort zone. In Brendon's most recent album, Pray for the Wicked, his songs are so different from his other albums. It seems like he's very experimental, so don't hate him if he suggested a "childish" segment of the song.
    - Both Brendon and Taylor seem to be really proud of this. In Brendon's Instagram caption of a photo of both of them in their outfits, he says that it was an incredible experience working on both the song and video. He also thanked Taylor for letting him be a part of her story. Taylor also co-directed the video, and it looks really good. So I bet she is also really proud of that.
    Just my opinion 🤷🏽‍♀️
    to sum it up, as long as they're not hurting anyone, they're not doing wrong in my eyes 👀
    Edit: wow my friend found this comment and exposed me in our group chat y'all better stop liking this shit or im gonna delete it lmaoooo

    • @aaliyahfoster2705
      @aaliyahfoster2705 5 років тому +18

      Totally agree. But her lead singles since she changed her original signature font have always been very basic and meant to bring attention to the new cycle - plus they all have her signature bridge chant. I remember really not liking WANEGBT's style when it first came out because of how offbeat it was, but it eventually grew on me after a few weeks.

      a smart business move would be to pick up her guitar and write some well-written verses. A few years back Lady Gaga got stale doing her weird shit and so she came back with an album that showed off her talent and singing chops. Taylor would've made a lot of people happy if she gave up on the generic pop and did what shes good at.

    • @abigailm8608
      @abigailm8608 5 років тому

      Tara Mascara she did this bc she needs to create a drastic new image for this era so that it can make ppl forget about the reputation era. Im sure there are better written songs on TS7 but releasing those would be much more similar to her older songs so this song was an intentional move to create contrast between this and reputation to define a ‘new era’. This was exactly what happened with LWYMMD as everyone knows it sounds nothing like the rest of what is on reputation. Her management is very smart at planning (how to break records, create hype etc) and I’m sure they took all factors into consideration when choosing a lead single and this was the smartest choice.

Red doesn’t sound much like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, 1989 doesn’t sound much like Shake It Off, and reputation doesn’t sound much like Look What You Made Me Do. I still have faith that the album itself is gonna be great, the single was just a dud. It’s still cute and catchy tho!! Just nowhere near as good as her past work.

    I think this lead single was meant to be this way, to contrast from the previous era and start a new one, we all know that Taylor isn't an average songwriter or an artist that put out music just for the charts, she takes her time to write and create a perfect body of work, and let me tell you, ALWAYS Taylor put out a lead single that is unexpected and makes you think: wtf is she doing?, but that is meant to pave the new era that she has created for the new album, the lead single NEVER sounds like the rest of the album... if you were following her by the time she released "We are never ever getting back together", I think nobody knew "Red" was going to have such masterpieces like "All too Well", "Treacherous", "State of Grace", etc. Or in 1989 when Shake it Off came out, I didn't like the song, but when the album came out, Good Lord, it was THE album, every single song was perfect.
    The point is, don't be dissapointed, Taylor NEVER gives you the best songs for lead singles (except for like, Love story i guess lol), enjoy Me! as a little taste of what is coming, don't over think it, Taylor clearly didn't wanted the song to be a masterpiece, just a harmless fun catchy and unexpected follow up for "Reputation".

    Personally, the childish & sonically weaker sound of the single only make me more excited for TS7 because Swift tends to release a single that is fun & commercially viable for a mainstream audience without divulging too much information on the sound & feel of her upcoming album.. Take LWYMMD for example, it was dark and openly touched upon the Kimye drama, making people think the album would be chalk-full of celebrity diss songs only to release an album that was pretty unabashedly full of love songs.

    • @aaliyahfoster2705
      @aaliyahfoster2705 5 років тому +4

      True. I would say since the beginning she has also chosen the weaker songs to be the lead (Tim McGraw, Love Story, Mine, We Are Never..., Shake It Off, LWYMMD, ME!) and built the character of the album progressing from that single song. If you listen to her albums, you'd hear that standout tracks are NOT the lead singles.

Instead of retreading her old images and personas, she puts on a new face and becomes this bubbly, colourful, wholesome (middle-aged) lady in order to please a different kind of audience, to increase her widespread appeal to the younger demographic or people who embrace pure positivity and simplicity. It is in line with the overarcing narrative of Taylor's career: Ever changing. Genre blending. Never stale.

    I have to disagree. Music today is sexual, dark, trying to be edgy etc. And tbh there’s nothing wrong with that. Taylor is bringing something new to the game tho and it’s something cute and refreshing and pop. She’s not following trends, she’s setting them. Brendon was great as a featured artist too.

    I love “Me!” BECAUSE of the childhood vibes it gives off. Everyone is acting like being an adult makes you so much better than being a child, and that you should just get serious from the moment you turn 18, abandon all your dreams and fantasies, and never look back. I like it when musicians make music that can be appreciated by all ages, and isn’t just made for “adults” that act like they are more important, and better than children. I’m 20 now, and the older I get the more I appreciate seeing the world through a child’s eye, without biases, and instead with a sense of wonder. Children are just really pure, and the way they experience the world is something a lot of adults should re-learn. Besides that the message of self-love, and self-worth, as well as the celebration of individuality is something that really draws me to this song. I do hope that Taylor also incorporates different sounds into this record but I would like it if the themes of this song continue on into the rest of the tracks.

    The first time i listen to it i didnt like it but now i do and it’s actually good ....it sounds like a 2011/12 song witch isnt bad or anything but it doesnt go with what trending now(tbh 2011-17 songs were so good but now they all sound the same so it kinda good taylor is bring a new different sound but it is a bit childish especially the spelling is fun part )
