  • Fully Submerged Ethereum Mining RTX 3080 Under Liquid!
Parts list for this janky build:
    Tank ---- ------amzn.to/3EOI8Qq
    Radiator -----amzn.to/3qd0cjj
    Pump ---------amzn.to/3khGkaN
    LHR 3080 ---No idea...
    Dielectric Coolant ----- engineeredflui...
Running a graphics card submerged in mineral oil works, but this stuff works better.
Im doing a test to see how cool I can get a graphics card while Mining Ethereum.
There is this specially engineered fluid called Dielectric Coolant. It doesnt conduct any electricity at all and therefor you can literally just dunk your electronics and run them under this liquid!
    #GPU #immersion #Mining
Everything runs very cool and very quietly. Im going to be doing a test with ASICs in a couple of weeks when more of this stuff arrives.

Little known fact: if you turn a container around 180 degrees (so that the air pocket at the top is exposed to the opening) then no more glug! It's because the make-up air then has a direct path to enter the container. (This is especially helpful with those thin rectangular cans of paint thinner, etc.)

First off, very smart move to pour liquid from a height, creating splashes, instead of resting the neck of the container on the edge of the tank. It’s like you’ve never poured anything before. Second off, a dangerous way to deal with a 2000$ card, using cheap parts with an expensive card. it seems to be your first time dealing with immersion cooling. But maybe it’s little money for you, I hope it is. Then there’s a problem with the thermal transfer. Since you don’t use convection, the liquid may eventually wash off thermal paste and degrade thermal pads, and then your card may die from heat

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE
      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  Рік тому

First off, yes it was a bit of a mess. Second, it’s true $2000 isn’t a huge purchase for me, but that’s no reason to put it in any danger. Luckily, electrocool has a zero change of damaging anything on the card, and in the event everything went wrong while I wasn’t home (which ended up happening, this tank was incompatible with this fluid and it ate a hole in it!) these cards have a feature to shut themselves off if they get too hot, which it did, and with no damage to the card.
It’s now back in the air after a thorough cleaning and degreasing, acting as a gaming computer because mining is now unprofitable at my electric rate.

I mine with a water cooled 3090, no direct experience with 3080s - but the HUGE temp upgrade to my 3090 was buying a standalone Bykski water cooled BACKplate. That took my mem junction temps from 100+ down to mid 70s when mining at maximum oc. (Nicehash) Since the 3080 don't have a backside vram bank it might not help as much for your card, but I'd recommend at least looking into it. I wasted a stupid amount of time on homemade heat sinks, high end thermal pads and what not. Better pads certainly wasn't dumb, but that active backplate delivered the goods - way bigger difference for mining than the frontface waterblock.

What matters is the material of the radiator it's made out of and if the fluid your using doesn't have any negative reaction to those elements. It's either aluminum or copper. What's more durable and widely available is an all aluminum radiator.

Okay so this is great and all if you have large scale. But let me tell you this. I have that gpu and you can achieve sub 80s and if your outside air is low being winter, mine are in the high 70's right now for memory junction. The reason is that for that specific model, there is a gap between the heatsink and the plate that sits on the gpu. In other words, you aren't getting full contact between the heatsink and the plates that cool off the vram. I think if you did the thermal pad mod and followed some instructions I have, you can achieve even 70 degrees in your setup or even lower.
Let me know if you're interested, but the product to use is Frosty Thermal Pad 12.8 W'MK. Highly rated product and many miners already use it as its compressibility is king among thermal pads. Better than many others for that reason.

I replaced the thermal pads on my RTX 3080 FE and my vram temps are 82-84 with fan running at 69%. Hash rate is 97MH/s. If the coolant brought vram temps to 70s and stayed there; this would be interesting, but it appears it doesn’t so much better than simply replacing thermal pads

u have lot to fix mate. u need to pump the cold liquid in from below via a floor plate... then suck hot oil from surface. you are simply sucking out the coolant you pumped in this way with the hose just laying inside. over a day that ec100 will thermal soak and the temps will rocket eventually. head to engineering fluids and download the pdf how to. look at tank design section regarding flow in tank.

I love your content! How much sound does the entire operation create now that you've dunked the card underwater? (inclusive of the radiator). When you say near silent operation how many dbs? And have you found the room to heat up with the liquid coolant? I just fired up my first GPU miner today and it was super loud so I might have to send it back because I have nowhere to put it without it being offensively loud - unless the coolant seriously resolves this issue!

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE

For starters, the room will heat up to the same amount - theres no magic that make less heat overall, but the only thing you can actually hear without having your head right next to it is the fish pump. It is quieter than a typical desktop computer at idle.
