I was posted to the British Embassy. Loved my time in Copenhagen. For "The Little Mermaid", refer to Hans Christian Anderson. I spent a lot of time in Nyhavn (pron. Noohaun. Translation is almost akin to our Newhaven) people watching. My sister visited me. Strolling around, I kept losing her. She was disappearing into the bakeries. She flew back to UK with a large selection box of Danish pastries and invited her friends to morning coffee the very next day.
Haven't seen you guys in a long time, but we are planning to visit Copenhagen next week. The last time I was there was in 1980 with the US Navy after about 20 days at sea on maritime NATO wargaming exercises in the good old, Cold War days, and was seasick most of the time...I was so happy to touch solid ground in Copenhagen. So, it was happy place and time! We were docked not far from the little Mermaid statue, but your shots show a different location...maybe she moved in the last 42 years??? We are the "Back to Sicily" channel, but I messed up the channel, so it doesn't show our title anymore. Happy travels!
I don’t think it has moved. But there might have been some changes to the waterfront so that it looks different. Military vessels docked fairly close by, I am not sure if that is still the case in 2022.
that image/statue is where Hans Christian Andersen gets the inspiration of one of his famous story/or movie for kids entitled " THE LITTLE MERMAID".his grave is also one of the most frequently visited spot of both locals and tourist.and those pastry is a good way to end the tour.
Are you aware that your wife speaks super fast... Nice to see you in the city where I was born and grew up. And now you're in the Philippines where My wife is from..
literally just come back yesterday from Copenhagen myself and is best without a group of people for sure. If you ever there a 'Tebirkes' pastry is a poppy seed topped and a almond paste filling that is my favourite whenever i go there and then a 'kartoffelkage' which is potato cake but it's like a choux pastry with cream and then marzipan on top with chocolate powder and it looks like a potato but it's so good! Also just outside main Copenhagen there are wooden trolls hidden around and great beaches
As a local, it's always fun to see what people make of visiting our little spot in the world. The fountain you passed on the wat to the Little Mermaid, was the Gefion Fountain. Gefion was a goddess who created Zealand from a part of Sweden, according to legend, by turning her sons, who were Giants, into oxen and yoking them before her plow. She only had one night to do it, you see, so she had to get busy. The Little Mermaid comes from the fairy tales by H.C. Andersen of course. People are often surprised about how small the statue is, but that was how they rolled in 1913. The square where the guard startled you is the Amalienborg Square, and stading on it, you are stading in the middle of the Royal Palace. The four mansions around the square house the Queen and the Crown Prince and his family. The guards are there as part of the protection around this, and the young people are draftees serving their term in the military. It is considered something of an honor to have served in this regiment, if you're into the military kind of thing. The Dome is the Marble Church, because when everyone else have domed churches, we also needed one!! ;). It's rather pretty with its greenish marble, though :) Ice cream in Nyhavn - best idea ever :D. The touring boats leaving from here is a nice way to see the inner city of Copenhagen. We go on them ourselves every 5 years or so. And then you happened on our great pedestrian shopping street Strøget - I think the word would be The Lane or something like that in English. I'm not much of a coffe man myself (unless it's the Irish version ;), but we do have a plethora of shop serving the brew for all those who crave it. And, as others have related, Danish Pastries are not Danish at all ;). But we will take credit for our particular twists on the tradition, and they are sooo good, yes. We love them. :) Reinh(ardt) van Hauen, the baker, is of Dutch origin, btw., as the name suggests, although the original Reinhardt took over an exisisting, danish bakery in 1876. The business is still owned by that family. Come again and we'll show you more :)
Nice seing you visiting our country Dk. Even though it was limited time with a baby. Im glad seing you looking around the KBH city & havfrue. Hope nxt time you will try to eat our rugbrød pålæg dk traditional bread /sandwich.
You went to all the tourist spots which is sooo good to do! But next time you come, definitely find out where the Danes go. (I live here btw.) Copenhagen always has tons to do-even in the dark of winter! Great vlog! Thank you!
Hi Lucy & George. It’s cool you guys made it to Copenhagen, Denmark. I wish you guys the best of luck with your future travels to come. Bless you as a family.
The Guards, that are posted at Amalienborg Palads, Are called DEN KONGELIGE LIVGARDE, ( The Royal Danish Lifegaurds ). - Threw out history there have been a lot of diffrent Military regiments who's task it is/was to PROTECT (be BODYGAURDS) to a lot different countrys royal families a round the world. - DEN KONGELIGE LIVGARDE ( The Royal Danish Lifegaurds ), was Founded in the year 1658, that makes Den Kongelige Livgarde ( The royal Danish Lifegaurds ), the OLDEST military regiment of its kind in the world, that still to this day, is doing the job they where founded to do. In other words they have been standing guard for 364 years, whiteout failing. IF you ask me, that is a pretty good track record. Nice representation of Copenhagen.
Lovely video. As a native Dane, I'm always amused when people try "danish pastry". I really hate to burst your bubble, but danish pastry isn't danish :D it's Austrian :D In Danish we call it "Wienerbrød" which basicly means Viennabread.
To Danes, it's actually a little ironic that our pastries are known as Danish pastry around the whole world while we in Denmark have named the pastries Viennese bread. The art of making pastries came to Denmark with bakers from Vienna in the mid 1800s. What you get today when buying pastries in Denmark is the original Viennese version slightly improved over the years by Danish bakers. However, the Danish pastries are unique and it is usually recognized that they are just different to the type of pastries you get around the world. It's difficult to explain. It has to be experienced. They are just somehow different in Denmark.
Awesome place. Was there earlier this year with my Filipino wife,we were getting her passport renewal. The dome you showed is actually a church, very beautiful inside. Surprised that George didn't mention about all the expensive cars in Copenhagen, us living in Iceland,we see more 4x4s and electric cars. Not seen so many top end brands in one place. Glad you got to see this wonderful city.
Odd fact for you: Singapore noodles aren't actually from Singapore. It's a dish created by chefs in Hong Kong who wanted to combine the spices commonly used in both Chinese and Indian cuisine into a single dish. They named it Singapore noodles due to the strong Indian and Chnese influence of that City State
I wanted to reach into the video and try those pastries, torture. Copenhagen is bustling. Love the ending with Koda. I know it's kinda sad but get home safely. God bless!
Thank u and good job on compairing or describing those places and foods and drinks(coffee😊) i was like noding like i know but really never been there and never eaten them👍😊and with koda smiling❤oh and the end was the ship at dark crossing/passing😁
Oh what a shame that you went for Rein van Hauen instead of Buka across the road. RVH is a very basic chain with average pastries. We have a huge selection of artisanal bakeries founded by ex-noma chefs, bakers etc, so Copenhageners are incredibly spoilt when it comes to our baked goods 😅 great choice with CUB coffee though! 👍🏼
The modern Danish you sampled at the cafe has to have evolved from its original. They all looked like they used phyllo dough for the top part with a soft bready dough on the bottom. I am assuming that in Copenhagen the Danish has made the best transformation simply because it gets the traffic that a capital has.
Danishes was inspired by Austrian backers who was in Denmark during a backers strike in Denmark in 1850, they thought the Danish backers to make Kipfel (Austrian croissants) the danish version has more eggs, butter and sugar-it is kind of a phyllo made by thin layers of butter and dough , in Denmark we call it Wienerbrød (Viennese bread) in Austria they call it Dänischer plunder -it is however the same all around the country and haven't changed the past 50 years since I was born , the quality can be different though but, what the tried in the video is very classic

Welcome to denmark❤❤❤
Love this video in Denmark 🇩🇰
Zamzam water from mecca saudi arabia is tasty and i heard its amazing.
You have actually seen something very rare. The guards are not wearing their normal bearskin hats, like in the UK. It's because of the heat.
Did you know that Copenhagen is reputed to be the happiest city in the world?
Yeah...I think the other Scandinavian countries also rank amongst the 10 happiest countries.🤗😄💞

Danish pastry is good against wrinkles. Lot of butter in it. ;-)
Interesting comment on noise - Danes see noise as pollution tool.
Hi think I might have missed your Tallin video or have you not done one yet.
BTW little mermaid at night was very nice. Not quite so busy.
I’ve been there last month. It’s beautiful and safe. And quite expensive hehe
Lets see if you guys fell for the trick ....and go to all the expensive places .....and totally missing what we do in our town
Thank you for sharing your journey, feels like I've traveled with you guys... stay safe as always. ❤️
Beautiful buildings. It reminds me of the anime "Attack of the Titans".
Go and tjek the movie Reptilicus.
I wanted to reach into the video and try those pastries, torture. Copenhagen is bustling. Love the ending with Koda. I know it's kinda sad but get home safely. God bless!

Yea
Best advice on copenhagen: Go to Stockholm instead 😂
Unless you look "western" you seriously do not want to go...
I don't know the name of the gorgeous woman in this video... But I'm almost in love with that woman...
I would give my life just to be friends...

Condolence on the dead of the Queen.
Has Copenhagen been a victim of the coordinated mass migration to Europe? Looks a nice place still atm
Koda so cutee & adorable. God bless your trip
