Lord Jamar: New Role on HBO Series, Acting on Oz & The Sopranos

- Unlike his days on Oz, Lord Jamar was tapped to play a correctional officer in the newest HBO mini series, The Night Of, which tells a complicated story about an alleged murderer's experience in prison. In the past, the Brand Nubian star has appeared on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Third Watch, and The Sopranos without any formal theater training. Unlike his peers in Hip-Hop, Lord Jamar says with the help of his manager and just speaking things into existence, he was fortunate to audition and nab the part. In this interview with DJ Vlad, Jamar talks about working with some of Hollywood's greats and the benefits of receiving residual checks long after the shows have their finales.

Christopher was so much more that that, but I dont expect vladtvwatchers to truly understand the genius ability to grasp the broad branches of truths and emotions portrayed in The Sopranos.

Really cool thing about Jamars appearance on the sopranos was that in of his scenes with Gandolfini the writers actually added a line in his characters dialouge to reference Brand Nubians album title "Everything is Everything".

Lord Jamar actually had an important part in OZ. He came in as "Supreme Allah" and had everyone shook. The Muslims (Syed) and McManis were both worried that he was going to militarize the "Homeboys" with the 5 percent teachings. When he came into OZ.. O'Riley and several other main characters already knew about his reputation from off the streets. Some crazy shit went down. I don't want to give to much of the show away. But if you haven't watched OZ before.. make sure to check it out. One of the greatest shows ever! Warning: Extremely graphic and violent. This show definitely pushed the limits. So it's not for everyone. But there was some great acting in that series and will leave u on the edge of your seat. Lord Jamar definitely did his thing in that show. Peace!

“Oz” is one of my favorite shows of all time. It also has my all time favorite actor, Ernie Hudson, playing Warden Leo Glynn.
I think it's interesting that he is your favorite actor. Most people gravitate towards the most famous. I assume, you went with the person who connected the most with you. That's sincere. I was always amazed at how many actors in "Oz" ended up with VERY successful acting careers. That explains why "Oz" was so successful itself.
