+Mitchell Koser Hi Mitchell, when fishing for grouper I use 60/80 lb leader (4ft). For my main line I use 50 lb Powerpro braid. There are many good braids out there, but my choice is Powerpro. When tying the braid to a swivel, I use the palomar knot, it's the best. (IMO) As a side note, I use a 100lb rated ball beating swivel.
Hi Mike, The rob I had custom made back in 2001 by Bill Whitson..Was one of the best rod builders in the Country, he has since passed several years ago..... The blank is a BZ-720 series(20lb-40lb rating)..I use 50lb braid...Works like a charm(My favorite combo)..not sure if they still make the model....The reel is a Newell P322-f....The P series is the reel series to buy if you can find them..Newell is out of business but you can buy them on Ebay...The newel reel is one of the best reels in my opinion...Super strong and lite weight w/super fast retrieve.....I have 11 of them, some different models...Newell was/is really popular on the West Coast(California)....Hope this helps...Have a great day!
