Don't blame Hollywood and the Media, blame Mel Gibson for getting himself too drunk to drive, and when an officer pulls him over; rather then behave like most people would, Mel who has an ego the size of an elephant decides to start spouting all sorts of xenophobic diatribe at the officer. Mel spouted his ugly views more then once, and it finally cost him his career, now he is old and washed up. He deserved what he got, and I hope his new movie flops.

They might be "too old for this s--t" but I say... Go for it! I'd love a 5th movie, if it's got the original cast, and a great story. Murtaugh might've been pushing for retirement back in the first film (when he was in his early 50s), but I could see him possibly as the Police Commissioner at this point, with Riggs as one of the higher-up Police Captains. Shit, Danny Glover is 70. Tom Selleck who plays Commissioner Reagan on 'Blue Bloods' is 72 and plays the role quite well. Makeup and hair dye will do wonders (and if not, there's always CGI de-aging these days)
They don't even need to be in the police force. They could be retired going on a road trip somewhere with their families together and they happen to come across a crime and help solve it.

The films have rewatching value, I was watching Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 on AMC, Richard Donner is the most underrated and versatile director alive right now.
Lethal Weapon has always been one of my top 5 favorites series. If they did a 5th I think it would have to be in a limited/mentor role with 2 young cops taking the center stage. Maybe even something along the lines of Duvall/Penn in Colors. Maybe Glover could be the Chief and Mel does whatever with the rookies.
The Lethal Weapon series is the best cop movies that has ever been is and will ever be they are my all-time favorite cop movies do the actors and actresses great chemistry they couldn't have picked better cast got the legend Danny Glover Mel Gibson Rene Russo I wish we could get more Lethal Weapon movies
One of the many things I loved about the Lethal Weapon series was that there were no racial barriers amongst anyone, especially with Riggs and Mertuagh's family. They couldn't if they tried. Everyone's chemistry was so good and they were all so close, that it was very easy to miss that. Danny Glover was right. The relationship between Riggs and Mertaugh got better and better as the sequels progressed. It was almost like a love story between these two. Not romantic, just soul mates. The TV show is crap. It has nothing on the film series. The chemistry with them and the family is not there. There is no comparison and I wish they could just end it now.
I totally agree with you on that I felt the same way about there family bond and loved how they form racial harmony that what made this movie so beautiful and touching
Richard Donner, if you do 1 more lethal weapon, I recommend to include Jackie Chan as retired Hong Kong police cop touring in LA and becomes their ally.
This is my favorite action movies of all time Lethal Weapon series I love love love love love cannot cannot say enough love for all the actors and actresses in this movie is my favorite action movies lethal Weapon
If they ever did a Lethal Weapon 5 I know how you'd open it. They would have to do a scene that tops off the last opening of course. And the way it would go would be this. It opens with a close up of an eye opening. Rigg's eye. It zooms out into the middle of a desert similar to that of the one they used in the sniper scene in the first movie. Riggs is lying around bloodied and bashed up not too far from a burning wrecked car. He realizes he forgot something, his partner Murtaugh. He gets up, the scenes all tensed he's worried, he's shouting his name. "Murtaugh? MURTAUGH!? ROGER!? COME ON MAN SAY SOMETHING!!!" Then you hear someone shout back off screen. "THAT'S THE LAST FUCKING TIME I LET YOU DRIVE TRISH'S CAR!!!"
Lethal Weapon the TV show suprised me at how good it is.
