- Namaste from under the sea!
The Little Mermaid's live action film recently completed its course in theatres around here and various other countries, and bracing for the coming days when there would hopefully be lots more clips around from that film, I thought let's revisit the animated version for a crucial scene with the sassy villainess of the film - Octopus Witch Ursula.
Her song "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is nothing but an acid trip through which poor Ariel is dragged until she succumbs to the constant manipulation and pushing and gives up her voice. However, right before Ariel signs the contract, Ursula pushes her one last time for the job, and here's where translators played REALLY well in laying out her personality....from a sneaky gaslighter to a groomer and in some cases....a straight up drug dealer XDD
Following languages are included in the video along with their translations (thanks, in most part, to contributors on LyricsTranslate, UA-cam S&T videos as well as @monaze_rose1947 for the Guoyu translation and @Mainn for the Thai one): -

Could be me reading too much into simple things, but I think I get the "drug" in Cantonese.
The drug could mean something that would give Ariel a temporary pleasure (Human for 3 days), that later would have a side effect (Either being human forever or being punished by Ursula). That's normally how it happens in real life with drug users. They get pleasure from it, but later face the consequences.
"It's like in a bus", I'm sorry, I'm not quite getting the analogy here. But Cantonese gotta take the cake, as always....one way or another 🤣🤣
Me too lol I never got this bus story x)
I get the premise that she's basically saying 'My transformation witchcraft is a SERVICE, just like bus transportation is; so you gotta pay me just like you pay your bus driver'. But yeah; the PARTICULAR motivation behind using 'bus' as an analogy for a medieval era European film when automobiles weren't even a thing, is a bit....weird. I guess the translator just impulsively went with whatever came to their mind here XD
@@rishabhrox1 not to mention: we can't exclude that at the time merpeople hadn't already invented public transports x)
@@FlamSparks Not only that, even if this movie was set in the 80s and buses and public transportation were a thing, Ariel didn't even know what a fork is, how would she know about vehicles xd.
The latin spanish dub is missing! It’s THE best one
Will The Little mermaid 2023 will release in Indian languages on Disney plus??
No idea. But definitely keeping my hopes up. It happened with Raya and Encanto so it could very likely happen with this movie as well. Let's wait and see.
@@rishabhrox1 I hope so too! India really stood out with Encanto, I'm really looking forward to 2023 Indian Ariels 🤞
You like flags of the world I like it too
the Arabic version is definitely the most manipulative by only saying good stuff
