The bottom turn to top turn combos make Occy an enigma. He really has his own style and totally rips in good waves and makes it look effortless when mere mortals like us are trying to harness the power of the powerful overhead waves.
I know… check out his feet position.. they don’t move change through the whole wave..
I had the privvilege of watching - and surfing side by side-Occy surfing at Jbay in 1991 during my first surf trip to SA. What a amazing display of pure power surfing!
In 84 at Supers I was in the water with Occy...to me THE best goofy footer to watch!!! SOLID!!!

I was at the Bells Beach pro when Occy was winning just anything even when they had a skins competition,i seen him on a day at Bell's hit a huge shoulder on his backhand and lift himself completely vertical above the lip and cut a massive arc straight into his inside rail then a verical of the lip on his forehand,this was about a 3 to 4 metre swell not to hollow a little mushy with a lite onshore and he obliterated every wave,poetry in motion is Occy.

When I was a 13year old grom.. I got in his way in Durban.. he was free surfing at the Gunston 500.. he told me to move out the way… I went to all my friends and told them “Occy spoke to me” 🤣

Hey you’re right.. to many vids in slow mo.. that’s why I mentioned it.. I slowed it down to appreciate his surfing.. i did put one of the same waves in normal speed at the end so you can see what it actually looks like.. that’s also why I post a lot of *Raw footage* sessions on this channel..cool to have you commenting, appreciate it!
