    Madonna's most vulnerable and emotional interview of her career. She lets her guard down and reveals her heart. I also cried when I saw this one for the first time.

    aww, my dear Empress, i am really glad i saw you go back to this one...i felt the same way as you when Madonna opened up and talked about her mom. Big reason why i thought it was important to watch this one. Always really enjoy your genuine reactions
    Can you imagine people opening up and showing themselves this vulnerable in interviews today?
    And people still say Madonna is cold lol

    This was a very good interview. I remember seeing it at the time. You can see how much her mother's death still haunts her, how lonely and vulnerable she is, how much she wants to love and be loved. It is funny to me how frequently people willfully misunderstand her. Even in Erotica, the album was more about love than it was about sex. I think she's just faced far more scrutiny than really almost any other artist, sometimes yes because of her artistic choices, socio-political views and assertive personality, but mostly because she's a woman who broke every record and glass ceiling, and the patriarchy was threatened. I just started reading a new biography of M called A Rebel Life, and it's interesting to put her life in context with what happened both in her early childhood as well as what was happening in politics and the arts community. You can see any number of influences from the 60s and early 70s that would shape not only her musical tastes and the types of lyrics she would go on to write, but also her political views and being outspoken about them, like many of the 60s generation like Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. They had as much influence on her as did David Bowie, the Carpenters, Motown and the Jackson 5.

    One thing that I’ve come to learn about Madonna is that she is and was very smart even when others thought that she wasn’t. She showed a lot of vulnerability in this interview.

    Another essential interview from 1995 you missed is her interview with Ray Martin, recorded in her house.

    I remember watching this when it was on and the promos they showed to advertise it. They made a big deal out of the "yes, Dr. Sawyer" soundclip. 30 years later and I still remembered some of her answers. Thanks for memories!

    Waouw!!! Your reaction to this interview showed me once again how intelligent, sensitive and thoughtful you are my dearest Empress!!! When it got to the part of loosing her mother at a very young age you instantly showcased so much empathy, I feel you understand her so well, it’s uncanny!!! A big thank you from Belgium ❤❤❤

    Her interviews are always interesting. She did another interview with Jane Pratt for VH1 during this time that's also great. You should check it out. It's on the playlist. ;)

    Exactly, I’ve always said that when Madonna is playing herself (Showgirl, singer, pop star ect.) she’s amazing! When she branches out to create a whole new character she’s not so good.

    I do not think she had any work done prior to around 2004. Don't think it was as common in the 90s with the fillers etc like it is now. She was only 37, lived healthy i believe and had had excellent make up and lightning haha

    The SEX book, in my opinion, made her an artist. It’s now an important artifact, with its photos exhibited and the book reissued at Art Miami, one of the biggest art fairs in the world. She has never been just a pop star, she is so much more. She has always faced criticism for everything she does, even to this day. Interviewers often give her a hard time, but she’s a good sport, answering all questions with honesty and vulnerability while knowing exactly how to handle the journalists. I love her for that.

    I'd forgotten about this interview. Definitely worth going back to! While there was some cringe, for sure, I think she felt respected in a way she often is not. She was open (ready?)... and frank. Very compelling and yes, vulnerable. Empress... you are the best.

    As much as we saw Madonna's personality in Desperately Seeking Susan, I think people (NOT YOU!) can be very dismissive, claiming it's somehow easy to "play yourself"
    I actually think it's pretty difficult to be as naturally charismatic as Madonna is in that movie. If you take the average person, brand new to acting, and tell them to say this while walking over there and juggling these props, and "just be yourself" while all these people watch and film you, the result is going to be pretty wooden and not at all natural.
    And this was definitely before she was having any "work" done. Botox and fillers were still not commonplace. Face lifts and plastic surgery were for older ladies and eccentrics (won't mention any names here but you know who lol) Now 20 yr olds do all of that, but circa mid 90s, if a person was under 40 they would def feel too young to be rearranging their face.

    I can certainly relate to Madonna not being able to turn to her mother because of her mother passed away when she was 5 years old. Even though my mother is still alive, she abandoned me when I was 1 year old and I met her when I was 7 years old. It was like I met a total stranger. And we're not in touch anymore because she doesn't accept and support me and she's toxic because she's not healed from her past. I'm loving her from a distance. So I can relate because there are times when I'm feeling vulnerable and I can't turn to her or even to my other side of my family like my father and stepmother. Right now I've been let go from a job and I can't turn to my own family and I feel so alone right now. I have applied and will be getting UI benefits. Pray for me and wish me luck in getting a new job please.
    Madonna is the 3rd child of 8 kids after Anthony and Martin and the oldest daughter. The sister that she was talking about was Melanie.

She was playing an actress an actress that couldn't act. Very dramatic!

    This interview always stood out as special to me. She really let her guard down. I loved how natural and pretty she was here and no Empress. She didn't get any real work done til around very late 07, early 08. Just a little info, she got pregnant during the shooting of Evita, which was apparently a no-no to the director.

    Body of Evidence was what really pushed her image to a sex freak. You really need to see this movie before Evita

  • @fluorescentmilkshake
    @fluorescentmilkshake 3 дні тому

    She was easily just as "mature" when she was singing openly about sex in the early 90's. I don't appreciate anyone suggesting being open and not apologetic about sexual exploration and honesty has anything to be ashamed about. "Justify My Love" was mature. "Erotica" was mature.

  • @fluorescentmilkshake
    @fluorescentmilkshake 3 дні тому

    Being honest about sex doesn't make someone a nymphomaniac. Do not take her or her fans out of context, that is no one's right. And it's gross and highly negligent and homophobic and sexist. Come on, now. Stop.

    This is where Madonna started to become delulu and she's a classic example of how toxic hustle culture is. She puts her career and own self interest in front of her kids and exes. She is talented, but sometimes the hustle isn't worth the cost to one's own sense of self.

      She never put anything in front of her kids. They are even on tour with her, she is always hanging with them. You can easily tell by everything she does, writes, says, being a mother is the most important to her.
