aww.. such a sweet ending. Thank you for a wonderful video. I was about to purchase this and didnt know all the ways I could use this tray that you showed.
Cheers! Thanks for watching! Yes, it definitely adds a lot of usable "counter space" for dispersed camping and or tailgating thanks to the metal screen, in a way the ones that are just a bar frame can't really do!
I am so sorry, I had to sell this off when I moved cross-country. However, when folded in the up position on my van it had no problem clearing the spare tire mounted on my rear door, and I was still able to slide the safety pin in the correct hole to hold it in the upright position. The only problem I could forsee is if you happen to have a wide offroad tire on your tailgate or some situation similar to that. You can see my spare tire there, with the color matching cover on the right side rear door :-) You could always add an extension tube to the hitch like this: www.amazon.com/Towever-84332-Trailer-Receiver-Extenders/dp/B071J12YFX/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=2+hitch+extension&qid=1649568934&sprefix=2%22+hitch+e%2Caps%2C71&sr=8-10
Haha no problems at all actually. In multiple states. I think driving below the speed limit, in a distinctly painted camper van kinda keeps the positive vibes coming my way.
Do you find that it sort of cantilevers or that it couldn't hold the weight its rated for? We are trying to decide whether to get a small trailer kit or one of these.
No I never noticed any sagging of any kind, and we loaded it down with all kinds of stuff. Not sure we ever got to the 500lb capacity, but either way, in my experience never anything but solid!
On one trip I did have a 4x8 cargo trailer on a 12 day loop from CA thru Nevada/Utah/Arizona, that was nice too. The only negative I can think of is that at many campgrounds even the smallest trailer will count as your "second vehicle" - so it precludes a friend with vehicle sharing the site with you. Not a problem if you are solo or the campground has a remote lot for 3rd cars... or better yet you are doing dispersed camping. If I were in your spot I would consider even a tiny enclosed cargo trailer so you didn't have to worry about adverse weather. We always spent so much time tarping everything up and then sometimes it would get loose on the drive... anyway, my 2 cents on that.
Honestly I always wondered the same thing, but I have now done about 10k miles across 3 states with the hitch carrier loaded up and never a single issue with law enforcement. Probably doesn't hurt that we are driving under the speed limit and clearly look like we are on a camping trip haha
Every dad needs to have a helper or two. Nice old van as well.

Glad it helped!!
Thank you for the review. Love the idea of using it as cooking top as well.

The Ford Falcon pick up truck was good to see that and brought back some memories of friends who have them.
Love you & Ella’s reviews. Good on you for camping your heart ‘away’ with the Fam. Very nice!!!!!!
Had to rewatch since I’m putting mine together now.

Thanks brother!
That van is a beauty.
Thanks!! We've been all over the US on many great adventures in that van, like part of the family, haha, the van's name is Jim 😁

Wow, Great details.
Hey thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful 👍
3:49 Is that an early 60's Ranchero in the background?

..nice vid and thx for the two cuties in it too!
can you tell me what the distance is from the hitch pin to the basket when it is folded up? i have a spare tire and hope it fits when folded.

Great video! I never thought about cooking on mine!
Haha, its practically indestructible unlike those folding plastic table!
What is the MPG of your vehicle?
About 11mpg with the roof carrier, lights and solar panels that I have on the van now
I could get about 12 when there was nothing on the roof, and I average about 9 when towing our vintage travel trailer
Thank you for your sharing!
No worries!
@@kampinglogik I love Aussie!!
Sweet! Thanks bro.
No license plate covering issue?

Does heat exhaust melt the totes or coolers???
Not on this van - the exhaust tips are right behind the rear driver's side tire pointing out to that side. Never had any issue
CON LA TUERCA EN EL LADO DE ADENTRO DAÑA LA CARGA
Nice carrier, should put some reflectors on the back so stupid people see it and not run into it. .I like that you can fold it up when not in use..
You aren't wrong! haha, but thankfully never had an issue!
good video. Isn't it illegal to hide your licence plate with the cargo carrier?
