How about a section of air hose from a semi-truck? My dad cut two sections of old air hose and used black cloth tape (I don't remember the actual name of the tape) to tape them together. The length is about 14 inches, and he used a lanyard made from leather shoelaces, This would provide one hell of a wallop combined with a moderate spring. It would not fully spring back so you would whack your forearm, but the energy transfer was impressive. When asked about it by the local State Patrol officer, my dad said that it was a 'tire checker'. 40 years later, it still is a formidable weapon.
I thought about it when watching your application of a spring auger. Give the hose(s) a try! Thank you for your videos, I learned a lot from them. I loved your destruction of drywall by Monkey Fist!

Take a thinner spring than your type 2 blackjack, then find another spring which will just fit inside the first. Tie your M-fist etx and then braif an overlay over the spring. The double spring will be far better than the bigger heavier spring but will have a more streamlined profile. As for the spring with the lead ball. Cast the lead ball around a bolt of sufficient size such that the bolt head gives a nice mechanical fit. by which I mean the bolt head is inside middle of the lead with the treads exposed. then screw this into the spring. About 2 inches of bolt thread. then plait etc as normal. You'll love the results.

Paracord based weapons are good and all but I'm not sure I'd use something that short (tool at 1:14 ) because at that point you're well within blade distance, carry a knife instead. However if we're talking about the circumstance of an environment that does not permit carrying knives I would whole sail say that's a good thing to have as a replacement

    Hey dawgy,
The purpose of the flexing action in the handle of a sap or a jack is to transfer energy to thing being struck and it does this 8 times better then a rigid object of the same size and weight- I carry a 13oz Texan flat sap but this hits 6.5lbs, saps spead the force while jacks do not: a sap is mean, a jack is leathel!
Check out the D3 leather (fantastic, traditional),
    Foster Brothers (stunning, inovative)
Bittercreek Leather (trades, repairs, stylish). These are all top quality craftsmanship, they all do custom work- D3 has an old school Chicago style, Bittercreek has his own flavor plus repairs/trades and while they are all well made, the Foster bros. are the prettiest..... From what I have seen $50+

I learned a few things about nunchaku in martial arts. I will not claim to be a master by any means. But your fear of committing and following through is what will make it bounce back. You should hit and pull all the way through the bag. If you pull all the way through, it will not hit you. Unfortunately, it will take some tries to figure out when and how hard to pull your arm inward.

It makes sense to get a bunch of keys from a junk shop or eBay. Put a keyring or fob on there to look like 'your actual' keys. Do not use your personal keys for the weapon. If u need discard this weapon or lose it...u can still get in ur car or home!

Most interesting! I did Hospital Security 4 many yrs. we had a 2 Max Prison's w/in Our area of SErvice as a Level 4 Trauma Center. So did Security many times in Gang fight victims brought in. thier weapon of choice was a lock n a sock! The longer and thinner the sock the better it seemed. I wonder about a Monkey fist on a longer cord ?? better velocity etc?? Also I've inherited several hundred used golf ball's what is ur opinion on them as a center for a M/fist?? they often have many difft. material in the center as well?? Also Ive pondered the idea of like a Argentine bolo made of golf ball's drilled and hung on paracord?? My problem is no jig or drill press to experiment with?? I would appreciate ur thoughts on this matter. Aslo 4 info the German Police use a sap devive on a spring w/a steel head not sure of the name but greatly feared by criminal's i hear?? TY

Have you ever actually used your monkey fists or blunts (black Jacks and saps etc) before against a real person? So sorry for asking I'm just wondering? Edit: also very educational I'm becoming 13 so I'm 12. Well I also have something to say on that matter. Can you tell me how to create the ball part of the fist? I also want to know how to make the string part. I want it separate. It looks like a cool accessory rather than defense. Also they don't look effective. Nice video? Is this weapon durable or effective but bad durability?

Great vid, good demos and ideas. I wondered if a longer lanyard would help keep the ball far enough away from the body to prevent it from bouncing back far enough to injure the user. I then began to think of a way to have a long lanyard, yet have it readily available for self defense in the form of a bracelet. So I wondered if the following could be created: a woven lanyard that's long enough to wind around the wrist about 4 times, with a magnetic ball attached to each end of the lanyard. After winding the long lanyard around the wrist a few times, the two magnetic balls would then stick to each other, holding the bracelet closed. The two connected balls would become the decorative element of the bracelet, and could be quickly pulled apart, allowing the whole deal to come off the wrist instantly if needed for self defense. I have not tried to make this yet, but plan to try it soon. Just an idea I thought I'd toss out there.

Some of the best ideas are easily hand made. At least in America you are allowed to defend yourself with something. In Britain if you’re being attacked with a big knife or anything else, it’s illegal to carry ANYTHING on you for the reason of ‘self defence’. Even women can’t carry pepper spray as that’s against the law because it’s being carried for the sole reason of self defence! Literally if I got caught with a spanner in my pocket and told the police it was only for self defence I’d be immediately arrested. It’s illegal to even FART in the direction of an attacker! (Okay I made that up). But to KNOW that thugs WILL ignore any law, and carry knives and other things yet make it illegal to even carry non lethal like pepper spray is absolutely wrong in a big way. In fact, and this is true- non lethal pepper spray is classed as a firearm! And it can get you the same jail sentence as carrying a gun which is totally illegal in Britain. Our laws are reactionary and ‘blanket bans’ just so they can be ‘seen to be fighting knife crime’
Instead of fighting knife crime the proper way, by putting anyone who COMMITS a knife crime a higher jail sentence to dissuade the crimes from happening in the first place.

I've been looking for a good DIY blackjack for a long time, and never really found anything outside of the old lock in a sock kind of crap. I wanted a high quality weapon that could send anyone running after a hard smack, looks like this might be it. Can you tell us where you got the spring from? The hardware stores around here are pretty lacking.

    • @thecatvids7947
      @thecatvids7947 9 років тому +3

It's super easy to make a blackjack. All you got to do is flatten some large lead sinkers and then wrap the flattened lead around the end of a large spring coil like a burrito then firmly tap all over with a hammer to bang out imperfections and also push the lead through the grooves and encase the coils to form a permanent bond. Now you have a really good blackjack ready to be wrapped in leather or paracord. Be careful.

Good video. The sap is pretty awesome. With press studs it can be wrapped around your belt and look nothing like a self defence weapon. The paracord slammers with a 40mm steel ball bearing are pretty devastating too, you would have to be careful even in a self defence situation not to hit to the head, but an arm or hand hit will end any thoughts of a further attack. The guy will literally walk or run away in agony. But never hit anyone on the head with one.

*****, Simple really. I keep items on my belt for defense but it was cold and I had a heavy jacket on. I knew I never be able to reach for anything under that coat, so I kept your bolo keychain in the hand warmer pocket. I pulled in for gas at a station about 0400 hours, it was cold & foggy. This guy in a sweat jacket with the hood on comes running up with something shinny in his hand, yelling "I want your wallet you fat..." By that time I had pulled out the bolo & swung at his hand, hit the forearm and forcing his hand/arm down. That's when I saw the large kitchen knife (7" blade). I brought my hand back, swinging the bolo backhanded to the guy's temple. That made him drop the knife and reach for his head. I swung back forward and hit the other temple, giving me a chance to pull up my jacket and badge him. Called it it and subject was booked. I was on my way for duty, running late (roll call/briefing is at 0500 hours. Got a little grief for using the bolo keychain but that's all. Never get to use it as a bolo yet, by the way. 😉

There is no such thing as "I'll just strike with this or that angle" when fighting. Going into a fight with preconceived ideas will slow you down to the point where you will be defeated by most opponents.
So you asked the right question "how to use this without getting hurt myself", but you bring a bad answer (with all due respect to the guy who taught us so much about paracord).
As I wrote in one of your comment threads before, only the big rubber balls are adequate for monkey fists. When rebounding and hitting your arm they will not hurt you, you can use them in a way that will just knock the opponent out if you need to (most usual need in a fight) ,and if you really need to, you can also kill with a single blow. how much more than that do you need? I have mine on my best at all times, despite having the choice among so many weapons, that's how high I rate it (I have 2 knives as back-ups and pepper spray, plus tactical flashlight also).
Granted, if the other guy wears a helmet and a padded suit you're in trouble, but you can't carry a rocket launcher and machine gun at all times either... The rubber ball will suit 95+% of the fighting situations you will encounter in the real world.
When I was younger I have lost several fights, been knocked out thrice, but during the last 15 years I haven't been hit once in a fight, even against several opponents at once.
    Take care Kevin
    Julien

I believe the vast majority of martial arts are about teaching "strike this way strike that way strike this target strike that target, upward blow, downward blow....." Understand the limits of what you carry and how they function. Just common sense. I agree with a commenter on the other thread. You keep your rubber insert and I'll stick with lead and steel. However I appreciate your consistent and informative feedback delivered professionally. We need more of that on the Internet.

***** They're BS... All the "shove this technique into your memory" is what gets people defeated.
The only guys who stand a chance against a gifted fighter are the ones who do thai boxing and regular boxing, because these are schools where the guys are taught to be fluid, and react according to the immediate situation.
The "if he does this I'll do that" crowd always ends up very knocked out very soon (if they're lucky!).
Some of these guys are brave and have other valuable qualities, but the teaching they got is so crappy, they get defeated because of it!!
I remember so many of theses that I "made to last" to 1 minute 30 instead of the 6-7s they were worth, either because they seemed like decent people and I didn't want to hurt their self-esteem, or because I didn't want to tilt the bets in my favor too much for the next month's fight...
Anyway, I wonder if maybe you could carry both? Fit them in your belt, they don't take that much room... this way, if a life or death fight with 3+ thugs happen, you still have the metal monkey fist?
      Disagreeing is fine!
Did you know any paracord project I make involves at least 3 knots/patterns I learned from you? You're the greatest man!
One more thing, it doesn't look as good, but if you have one monkey that is supposed to take care of lethal threats, instead of paracord, you can wrap the ball in a sturdy towel... It's easier and faster to dispose of the pieces if needed. You just have to carry something to ignite and some accelerant...
A rubber band behind the ball secures it in place.

I don't disagree with anything in your last post!
