  • To mark ABTV's 7th anniversary on UA-cam, a new video.
On 7th May 2015, during the UK General Election, Channel 4's younger sister E4 decided to give its viewers an incentive to get down to the polling station and make their vote, instead of vegging out in front of How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory. They did what most TV executives would call professional suicide and actually switched off the station for twelve hours between 7am and 7pm.
Well, not entirely switch the channel off, rather to have a series of vignettes featuring large, bearded and bespectacled E4 worker Darren milling around the E4 control room, looking after the (very basic!) control machine and getting up to various things, including being bothered by a flying cat-drone, playing noughts-and-crosses with a clown (sounds familiar...), going off for a (rather lengthy) wee-wee break (he has a capacious bladder, doesn't he?), letting a scary girl dance in the control room and, most noticeable of all, having a disco dance-off with a man in a (rather baggy) panda costume!
As UA-cam's ContentID bots didn't like the full 30 minute version of this video (I got 17 copyright claims, not just for Van McCoy's "The Hustle" but also the library music on the musak tannoy), I have instead boiled the footage down to its bare minimum, namely the beginning and end of the broadcast, with the accompanying presentation. I will try to upload the full footage of the first half-hour elsewhere.
