- Freediving The Indian Arm (North Vancouver 2022)
Amazing is an understatement... The cold, oxygen rich, Northern Pacific ocean is out of worldly. Our aquatic backyard is often neglected due to it's cold conditions but with the right equipment taking the plunge is so worth it! In this longer episode, I was invited out with Carson to his cabin up the Indian Arm in North Vancouver, British Columbia. We spent two days exploring, crabbing and freediving while enduring the winter conditions mother nature through upon us. I even found a Spiny Lithode Crab!! Hope you all enjoy the trip as much as we did!

No pleasure, cheers!
Again, great footage just great!
Thanks! The scenery is so dramatic up the arm. I can literally film anything and get decent footage haha.
Love the content, good job! I can hardly wait to move to Port Hardy…
Lucky! I've yet to make it down that far but I'd imagine the diving is phenomenal. Enjoy! And thanks, happy you like the video!
Your buddy has a nice little boat. Maybe some day I'll have one like it
Yeah that thing is perfect. Hewescraft are great for our coast. I'd love to have a boat again too but they can be a money pit. Worth it if you can afford it!
Carson sent me here 🤙
Yup
Awesome. Thanks Carson!
Solid dude 😎
One of my favorite videos of yours so far. I love our Province so much
Thanks, I appreciate that! And I couldn't agree more. Endless natural beauty all over.
Epic video above and below the water...man Vancouver and the West coast lifestyle and scenery of BC showcased, throw in the snow and wow fantastic...
Thanks man! I needed that trip. Such beautiful scenery indeed. I felt recharged after that one!

Chris, I am always impressed with how smooth your entries look, especially considering that you are holding the a stick. - Brian
Haha practice I suppose. I try to be graceful so water doesn't shoot up my back!
Let's goo!!
Any day man! If you're on the mainland let me know! Plus we need a boat haha
Another awesome adventure!
Thanks Clayton!
Man those are some alpha sunstars!

One for the books! Excellent!
Thanks Mike!

Still watching most your videos as it's great to see what's under the surface,
Normally watch on the TV so can not comment but you are doing a amazing job filming and the videos are only getting better.
Thanks man! I'm staying in Ladner until April so we should still try and do that collaboration one day! Hope you had a great Christmas and thanks for the comment man!
So great. I can’t wait to dive with you some day. ❤
For sure man!
Ive traveled most of Europe and ive got to say nothing has come close to the west coast so glad i live here
Amen! We have it pretty good that's for sure.
Awesome adventure and video!
Thanks Jeremy!!
Fun! TKS!
No worries man!
Thanks for introducing me to the spiny lithoid! What a great EP. That sauna was sweeeet!
Thanks man! Spiny Lithodes are awesome. Super underrated and fairly unknown!
Awesome video 😀 I work with Carson and he was so stoked on this! For good reason!
Haha thanks man! Carson is a cool dude. Such a king gesture to invite me out. He's got a wicked set up out there!
Wow what an awesome video and happy holidays to you and your family peace and love
Thanks man and back to you guys!
Carson is a real one for sure. This was a sick video to watch!
Thanks man! And yeah, he's awesome. Really fun getaway!
Man. This is sick. I am dreaming of being there.
It's pretty amazing amongst all the mountains. The sauna was the icing on the cake haha
👀🙌 *Ohhhh-myyyy-gerrrd* !! Spectacular video Mr. Samson...top tier as always.
I support long format so thank you for taking us to the walls n' falls . . . you are very
deserving of having kajillions of followers and I hope YT smartens up to bring more
people your way. What a stunning stay and all the footage plus 'our' favvv sunstars
being about with oodles of healthy vibrant starfish.
This Carson fella came through...wow am so happy for you & that you took goods
home with you also for brownee points, haha.
p.s. wholly hell the 'nudi' was fabulous too & the spiny lithode {Dermaturus hispidus}
was absolutely 'the find' !! Glad you go to see your buddies the rockfish.
Haha thanks! I always look forward to your comments. Carson pulled through for sure! Such amazing life up that way. I much prefer editing longer videos too. I'm using the UA-cam shorts as more of a filler when I don't have longer videos to edit haha. Better than nothing I guess!!
soo rad seeing what you got up to during this freak snow fall in the vancouver area!
Haha cheers! Definitely made for some scenic diving. When life gives you lemons right? Haha
There is a super small swim threw up cascade falls area past the water slide. I would show you but I’m not certified for free diving.
I dive with people who are uncertified all the time. Experience is just as important as training. Sounds like a fun trip!
@@PNWSamson that’s awesome! Glad to hear I want to get more comfortable with dark open water before investing so much and not fully be able to get over my fears lol. I don’t mind if I can see but when I can’t see that far or it is super dark it creeps me out.
p.s. . . . are you all going to do Polar Bear swim or the likes there of?
I see one is back after cxld due to global pandemic at Boundary Bay’s Centennial Beach.
I do not 'do' English Bay as it is way too late in the day at 2:30pm as they want
to control that no one is still drunk out of minds like the ollll' days when everyone
went there and was big bonfire etc. Too official now. Fort Langley, Deep Cove, and White Rock etc all scheduled to go as well. Also FULL SUN shows starting that day too after pure rain from 24th to 31st.
Hmm, good question. I always say I will but never do. Maybe I'll just do a dive somewhere but if I go it would be in Tsawwassen!
@@PNWSamson Whollly u gotta do it or even just take kiddos to see or maybe your little girl would do it with you---in neoprene suit of course haha and good footware. Please ensure all your posse is not out in 'the big drink' Monday and to be WELL aware of immense storm surge and king tides with southeasterly winds arriving Monday morning . . . that is going to cause major damage once again. Mutha hen signing out haha. Hope y'all had fab Christmas. I am 'certain' Jasmine was extra spoiled as she is so very supportive--I do not know of any other like her that is a-ok with all the time spent living your other passion {first family -clearly}.
Another banger video, thanks for showing how beautiful the west coast is 🤙🏼
My pleasure man, cheers!
Have you ever dived around up in northern BC? Nass Valley area?
I wish, but unfortunately not yet. I haven't been much past Port McNeil on Vancouver Island.
25 minutes of awesome content and information! Thank you! Happy holidays!
Thanks and back to you! Happy you enjoyed it.
This is awesome! Amazing scenery. Great storytelling!
Cheers! Happy you liked it.
Love the video! I recently dove at that second wall in your video and was blown away by the size of the sea cucumber. I’d like to learn how to prepare and cook them. I dived the same day with some new friends and we managed to grab 6 crabs in the hour or so we were in the water. It was my first time finding a legal size crab, so it was exciting.
Thanks again for making the videos. Have a great holiday and I’ll see you in January!
Cheers and looking forward to the trip! We'll grab some sea urchin and sea cucumber and cook em up at my place. 6 Dungeness?? Wow. You guys found the jackpot. The walls in that area are amazing. I can't wait to go back up there too!
Awesome video!
When did you film it? Is this the recent snow storm you guys got? I flew up to Powell River from Winnipeg for a few days of diving just before the storm. Ive been stranded in Vancouver since Monday (this is the end of day 4 being stranded lol).. Totally worth it tho, such good diving!
Oh man that sounds miserable. The airports have been a mess! Happy you got some good dives out of it though. I filmed this last weekend over Saturday and Sunday. The snow added to all the excitement and beauty and I made it home safely so no complaints on my end!
Amazing vids! I live in van as well and I'm looking to get into free diving, I was wondering where you learned how to dive?
Thanks dude! Hmm, reach out to divingsports for equipment. I got my training through oceanoid but I'm not sure if they are doing any courses at the moment. Freedive BC and sea to sky freediving are a few other options.
Thanks for sharing Chris. Good to see lack of debris and vibrancy of life in the Indian Arm (compared with the desolation of the Burrard Inlet). Good populations of Rockfish coming back as well. I watched your previous visit to Silver falls and I can see why its your favourite. Magnificent in the snow! Happy Holidays and good health for you and your family. Blessings!
Thanks for the comment Joe! And yes, all the life up there is nice to see. Silver falls is spectacular, above and below. Thanks! And back to you as well. Cheers!
I can see your channel growing, the content is fantastic!
Thanks!
That looked freezing! I dove a few days ago in Northern California and the water was so cold against my mask that I thought it was filling up with water. Beautiful as always.
Haha it was cold. But much colder once out of the water with my wet wetsuit. The windchill would hit pretty hard. Being in that cabin with a warm heater was amazing! Thanks man!
Word of caution with the dryer lint. Depending on what you're washing and drying, that could mean a lot of nylon/polyester non-cotton material that you don't want to be burning. Better off with just candle wax and egg cartons, maybe throw in some newspaper shreds.
Yeah true that. I guess you'd just have to be mindful of the clothes you're drying before collecting the materials. Burning plastics and scented detergents could release some nasty chemicals. Still a good idea but tread lightly that's for sure.
Solo diving is fucking stupid!!
Solo boating, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, fishing, skateboarding, swimming, etc is also stupid. I choose to not live in a bubble. Preventive measures are much more effective than relying on a buddy to find me while unresponsive at depth in cold dark ass water. Research what happens when people go down in a confined space. Triage situations unfold and multiple casualty situations develop. I much prefer to dive with people, but I'd never rely on my buddy to help me. Panicking while searching for your missing friend? How long would your breath hold be in that situation? Roughly 4-7 minutes is all it takes for irreversible brain damage to set in for the average person. The average diver I go out with I would not trust with my life and to be frank, I'm not sure how helpful I'd be in many situations. Our water is green af and you loose sight of each other after a couple meters. Again, preventive measures...
Some of us don't require the protection or watchful eye of others. We are free, regardless of the potential consequences we are very aware of. It's these types of comments, judgment, aggression and control from others I prefer to do without that push me to prefer solo adventure. I wish the world were more encouraging, congratulatory and peaceful than it is.
Much respect Chris, keep on keeping on sir. 🤘
