We use a small pump-up sprayer to put diluted shampoo on our GSP without wetting him first. It foams some & we wash as we apply. We use the hand shower only to rinse. He's our 4th GSP & they've all HATED water flowing over them, although they love plunging into any swamp or pond. But this goes much easier for him (& us).
Hi Tundra! We're a family of 6 GSPs, and they've all had the flaky skin from time to time, but we also have a Wheaten Terrier with severe allergies. Of all the foods we've tried, EVERYONE does well on Dr. Tim's Kenetic Formula. It doesn't have the corn filler, but doesn't rely on peas either, so it's a safe grain-free kibble. Our GSPs have the softest fur, and they're just beautiful on this food. We rarely bathe - instead we do feet, face, ears and fanny with a wet cloth, and the body with a damp towel. We live in a very arid and dusty climate too, but we haven't had any dandruff since starting Dr. Tim's three years ago. Hope this helps! Such a pretty and well behaved girl!
I should mention also, that like Tundra, they, too are indoor doggos. I do think your area trumps ours on dust! I just wanted to pass on the good luck we've had with this food. It may be a little added protection. And the price is very good on Chewy.
Thanks so much for this recommendation!! We’ve had to switch Tundras diet back and fourth to find what works best for her allergies but have had very little luck. We believe a huge part of her allergies are environmental. We will definitely look up Dr. Tim’s Kenetic Formula and give it a try. Also, wow 6 GSPs! 😯😯😯 you guys have a hand full 🙌🏼 that’s so awesome!!! ✨💗💗💗
ouchee thats a small yard for a dog like that! But Im sure yall do lots of off leash time somewhere else, looks like a beautiful area! She is gorgeous!
I’m sorry, it is very tough to put down a dog- I’ve been there. Yes, we get that a lot! GSP’s do have a great personality and very similar to each other. Also, Tundra says “thank you”
She is really beautiful and reminds me of one of my one GSPs. But getting my GSP into the shower was like wrestling an octopus. However, like Tundra, once the warm water started they would calm down and once it stopped they would make a break for it.
Hi there! My boyfriend and I have a pointer mix and we had problems with his dandruff and dry skin when we first got him. His vet recommended fish oil and our Scout hasn't had problems since! I figured I'd comment and share if there was any chance it could help. Love the videos!
With my GSP the Dandruff was from over bathing. I would rinse him down with water when needed and only use shampoo once a month and never had a problem again.
I love that you actually wash your dogs face and then cover her eyes to rinse. The majority of people wash every part of the dog except the head and it astonishes me. That must be itchy and uncomfortable to have your whole life go by and your head is never cleaned no matter what you get into or how much dirt you roll around in. They make tearless dog shampoos for a reason now! People are just lazy and cheap. That was a great overall scrub not missing even the sensitive areas.
I might be mistaken but washing your dogs coat so often can actually cause issues, I’ve been a GSP owner for life and was told it’s not good to wash there coats very often as can ruin the natural oil production which helps protect there fur. But such a beautiful dog 🐶
Hi, yes you are right. We didn’t realize we were washing her too often. We are bathing her every ten days now so her natural oils can come in. She gets very dirty often because we take her out to the desert every day and for some reason I think her sweat smells very strong.
@@tundrathegsp sorry I didn’t mean it to sound so rude I just read it back and it should have been written better, thx for taking it the way it was intended. such a gorgeous GSP.

I’m so sorry to hear that 😔 I just saw the video you made with your GSP- they are so gorgeous! I’m sure you and your family took great care of him/her. I know this must be heartbreaking for you, I’ve lost a dog I grew up with three years ago. They are family and it hurts to lose them.
Tundra deserves a special treat after every bath

Give Tundra a order of french fries from McDonald's or Wendy's after each bath

My late gsp hated baths. At least the bath zoomies & sun bathing are still the same.
Tundra still doesn’t like baths as of today 😂
What a beautiful dog.. we had to put our male down a year ago.. am amazed at how similar GSP traits are

My male GSP "puts up" with baths kinda like Tundra. My female is 7 months and loves the water and you can't keep her out of the bathtub. 😁
Awww, so awesome you can handle two of them!!

Do German Shorthaired pointers have the tendency to smell bad? Like Labs?
Ours doesn’t necessarily get stinky but She does get oily frequently and gets a ton of dandruff.
