Just discovered this video, which is fantastic as I was at one of those gigs. I used to go to the Marquee lots at the time, maybe 2 - 3 times per week, and this was definitely one of the best.
I was born JUST too late to get the early days, became a bona fide fan in about 1985 and saw then 4 times on the 7th Son Tour in 1988 (including Donnington). I grew up near London, so I would've gone to the Marquee (Saw Satriani there 1988). The guy at 3:27 has always fascinated me! I think Maiden had that same appeal that The Who did 15 years previously, they were on stage, but they were also still fans, so the crowds related to them, as Steve said - thought they could BE them. Great days.
very interesting question and almost impossible to answer, the singers both wrote songs, sang and defined the different directions and eras of the band, without their duel influence maiden would be unrecognisable altogether, im glad that it had its duel founding fathers.....perhaps if Dianno had stuck around it would still be punky and edgy with those killer riffs and punchiness, bruce took the band to a whole new level, more commercial but still excellent riffs and melodies, i thank them both!
Classic Neal Kay - "It's very simple, but enormously enjoyable". Not his fault, but Phantom of the Opera is playing underneath. Yeah, complicated, but not the most complicated thing ever. However, unless you're in a prog or jazz band, it's complicated. Then we have the "I despise the term heavy metal" whilst wearing his Heavy Metal Soundhouse tshirt.
@memyselfandeye3 What do you think Maiden would've sounded like IF Di'Anno was still in the band and had recorded the Number of The Beast? What do you think Maiden would've sounded like if Bruce was the original singer and Di'Anno replaced him?
OMG @4.27 there I am, middle of screen to the right with the short hair...loved Maiden and loved Di'Anno's voice..
Fuck!!! I wish could go to an Iron Maiden concert in the 80's
I did

I love the metal geezers at the start! Must have been a great time to be a metal fan in London. Shame I was only 4 at the time!

Just like Brian Johnson....Bruce was good for a couple of albums..then it got stale.
Dual, not duel. This isn't Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Or Barry Lyndon's father.
A man with "HEAVY METAL SOUND" T-shirt: "Heavy metal is obselete for 10 years now."
He was such a pretentious journo prick!
Outstanding documentary!
RIP, Paul
The most exciting times in one of the most exiting live bands of all time. Untouchable live then as they are now.
If you hated a phrase or term, you wouldn't have it emblazoned across your shirt in 10 inch high letters!
I always wondered if that was a bit of British Humor at work right there, lol
R.I.P. Paul
Awesome early years.
Super
0:36-0:39, John Lennon on the left, haha

AngelofAnguish I think the would have split up years ago. Dianno was a great singer, but he didn't have he drive that the other members did.
Song at the start when they walk on stage?
The ides of march
i want that T-SHIRT at the 0:31.

the Metal Biblie....
dennis stratton was fired by management for listening to classic rock in his hotel room.
Not the EAGLES, man!
Wish they still called it jazz rock
Is this concert available anywhere?
The 45 rpm record Iron Maiden Live!! + one EMS-41001
And the video?
And then with Bruce they ended up distanced from their audience just like Lord and Clapton. :)
People seemed nicer back then, now everyone is obnoxious and aggressive
0:03 and 3:20 Beautiful girls if is not the same.
