If they’re advising you that it’s not they are wrong and you should seek another opinion. ETF’s are more tax efficient. SMA’s provide even more tax efficiency by owning the underlying stocks. If you have substantial taxable assets. Taxes are more important than returns in many cases. MF’s are the least tax efficient investment vehicle. Even if it’s just an index fund.

Not at Vanguard, ETF and MF are different assets class of the same fund. Your commissioned smartvestor pro will not tell you this.
