I'm so used to grimdark meaning "10 trillion people die every second cause.... erm... war or something. anyway here are my special main characters that somehow survive this... because... err... morally grey gods gave them power / they use dark magic ".
This game looks like it wants to take a stab at depicting the struggle to survive between the fight between two greater powers instead of the main focus being the greater powers.
Not to mention how it does the one thing lacking in Grimdark which is good people trying to do the right thing despite the dying world. The Scavs are pretty selfless all things considered. Going out into active warzones to help their city maintain while also going out of their way to pull wounded/abandoned people out of the warzone before the Night watch come out. Its so nice to see a game finally moving away from playing as nationalists actively partaking in the war, instead playing as a person from the side line who just wants to help themself and others live.
This shit is peak Grimdark.
@@jacknagel9387 Yeah and I think its thanks to the fact that by the games design there is a focus on "pockets" that lack conflict and give the world a much needed dichotomy I think other grimdark worlds tend to overlook.
@@grimneeldrakia7173 Yeah, forget the imperium, I want to see some randoms in an undercity trying to make the world better as small as an impact as it is.
Inner Loot Goblin/Dungeon Rat intensifies.
i REALLY want to be able to play this game on the STEAM DECK, thanks to bring that up. I live in a 3 world country and computers are really expensive and the steam deck was what i could afford.
Straight-up, I don't like the water-death mechanic. I understand the desire to up stakes, but penalizing the player for not playing/keeping track of the days is not the way. Love everything else but that.
I'm so excited for this game, thanks for the video! Also super cool you managed to get Billy Butcher to come in and read some of your script.
It would be absolutely sick to have a real P&P RPG version of this game. Just can imagine the awesomeness if we could create a char on paper so to speak, and then implement it to the game on PC :P
2:35 I can’t believe that they added 20mm guns. I can finally have my hands on an auto cannon or at least higher caliber weapon. This game even breaks the .50 caliber rule, or in some boring ass games, the .338 or .308 rule. Fucking nice.
May I ask what the .50 caliber rule is?
@@cosmichay74 I'm guessing it's that most games have the most powerful weapons be of 50 bmg caliber. Like your typical Barret rifle being a one hit kill in CoD or any other games featuring such powerful weapons. This game goes beyond and apparently has 20mm.
To be fair when dealing with mechs 20mm doesn't sound that extreme
@@cosmichay74 Games never go over .50 caliber. Unless they have a reason to, like enlisted for anti tank purposes. And rocket launchers don’t count towards the .50 caliber rule.
@@robberyproductions1363 Agreed, but it’s not like other guns couldn’t add bigger guns. It’s not like they don’t exist.
You're inside me right now. You're walking the night in my skin.
yay, more mugsy!
its reminds me of an animation somone did called last day of war. Which inturn reminded others of the flying dutchman. (it was a short story i sadly cant relocate about an AI bomber) It still predates the complete end of humanity. But it still holds some of the major notes, a war humanity has forgot the start of, a war so long its meaning its reason long lost to humanity, a war so long what was once easily recognizable no longer is. Its become a war for war itself. and humanity is the last thing on the table of concern. Beautiful and haunting all at once.
I have heard the voice of hell, and know his Visage, and he holds no eyes or ears for those trapped beneath him.
The modders are going to go crazy with this one
"grimdark done right" carries a lot of weight on it, seems like a almost a declaration this game is going to be better at Grimdark then Warhammer
Why does it have to be about "better"? I'm all for "different".
@@maeburekaiser by saying something is done right it implies that all others are failing to do it to the standard the product is setting
@DCPTF2 it doesn't. That's an assumption. It implies that the game does grimdark right. It doesn't imply that all games fail to meet this standard.
if they're doing Grimdark right then it's right with the genre spirit, why compare?
The way 40k has been going for the last 3 years, that's not very hard.
Definitely hoping mechs might be able to be stolen eventually (obviously not in the beginning)
Looks like one of the playable characters is the chick that peeled a tank like a tuna can, giving the implications her character could have the skill tree to utilize abandoned walkers if you can fix it up enough, probably won't get to use any of the big chonkin Bois but it'd be cool if we could salvage a smaller scale exo suit mech for suppression or tanking in hot zones. So that'll be interesting to see what comes out of that.
@@cyanyde4950now that would be nice
Pretty sure the devs said mech piloting will never be a thing because they dont wanna dilute the disempowerment phantasy. Not sure if exos fall under that umbrella as well
@@yellowsaurus4895 I personally wouldn't say an exo suit is a mech, but if the devs decide not to utilize them for players then guess no exo suits for us x_x
So this is basically Remnant 2 but sci-fi and more hardcore?
You said “single player” and I got SO scared it’s only single player with “coop functions” like dark souls but other vids and info say it’s fully coop
While I'm sure the complexity of interactions is more difficult to sus out than I can comprehend as a non-coder, I'd say enemy AI should prioritize threats based on a combination of direction, distance, and cumulative damage done to a group of enemy units. Each enemy unit has a basic value plus their health pool, the more harm you inflict the higher that "damage done" rating goes. Combine this with range, if you're closer they'll be more threatened and priorities will switch to you more quickly, especially if you're in direct line of sight. Combine with direction, enemies will react more aggressively if you flank them and most aggressively if you attack them from behind, like a real military unit they will be more threatened by an enemy attacking their vulnerable sides and rear.
Go deeper, have officer type units confer a regular buff to their subordinates that make them more accurate and decreases the number of ticks/cycles between decisions. Kill these units and your threat rating will go up significantly, however their subordinates will make decisions about what actions to take more slowly, slow down the rate at which they pathfind and add more randomness to it.
Something like that would make enemies more lifelike (not realistic, but lifelike) and give players more choices when dealing with them.
the game uses weight classes to determine threat level but it also has modifiers, why would a faction target you if you're not a known enemy when a known enemy is in sight?
There was a video by the unofficial media man there are two main functions that determine what things target. Threat how dangrous a target is and weight the size of a target. Weight is the base threat of a unit and doesnt change a tank or building size mech is going to be more scary then a single man but threat changes based on factors if that man isnt alone but has a two squads with rockets and machine guns that raises the threat alot and will be targeted by units that would other wise ignore them. weight also effects the effort units put into a kill a medium mech wont use its tank size main gun on a scav while it will on another mech or a tank. it would instead use its auto cannons or try to step on them to save ammo
So amazing. @@killerhellhound
Those are relatively basic functions that ofcourse they have a version of in game, Generally good game aI will include something like you said to determine agro but then also that data will still be used in another function to determine it's priorities or actions or movement. What I'm wondering is does lighting effect there vision so i can hide in the dark, can they "smell" you, how good exactly is there hearing, and how deep does the war itself go and the lore that's what I'm most excited for.
i was hoping for some more exotic weapons
Looking forward to this game 🔥
loved the video but brother you cant abbreviate Early Access to EA like that, some of us have Vietnam flashbacks
I’ve been through it all. But some times Early Access is just too much of a chore to say. 🤣
What is this...? It looks so cool!
