Harold, I not only used your recipe for jelly, I separated the juice and then put the skins in a processor ground them up and added them back to the juice and made great preserves. Thank you for the recipe. I still have a supply of the jelly and preserves I made in 2015, but I have so many grapes this year. I will probably make more.
I'm doing it now. My mother did do that way back in the 70's-90's. Though the years. I watched my mother the best I could. When I was looking for how to make the grape jellies of how to do. I seen your video and it brought back members when my mother did the same thing you are doing. I would like to learn more from you if I could.
I have a lot of wild grapes growing on my fence. I hated to let them go to waste so I decided to try to make jelly. I used your recipe because you used a sieve just like one I inherited from my mother. She's been gone for 33 years so that sieve is pretty old. My jelly turned out great and that sieve worked perfectly. Thank you for your video.
You did a great job in explaining how to make the jelly. My wife and I are going to try our first batch this weekend. We had a good crop of Cabernet and merlot grapes this year. Thanks for the great video!
I have been looking at grape jam/jelly making recipes all day. This is the first one I saw and the one I liked the best because it is the simplest and it seems to yield good results. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Harold we just turned out our first batch it is awesome!!!The boys are going to do the next couple together. I am just going to watch we had a great time.this is the kind of stuff that builds and keeps strong family bonds. Thanks for the help GOD BLESS!!
This was absolutely Fantastic! I made jelly for the first time last year-just harvested three times last years' crop-and this is much easier!!! Such a kind-hearted person, reminds me of my Daddy! Excellent instructor!!!
Such a great explanation, thank you for this, I know is been a long time since this video was up but it is my first time trying to make some grape jelly, I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I might use piloncillo something my husband told me to use instead of sugar, it is a sweet block of “sugar” he knows from his country, Mexico, so will see how it turns out :-)
Well Done!...Great tip about the butter and I like the way you began the cooking process with whole grapes to enrich the flavor. Very clever..many thanks
We have made it using less sugar and it is delicious. We bought the sure jell less sugar box. You can not do it with the regular sure jell. Good luck and happy canning!
Thanks for the easy instructions. I made my first jelly from our own grapes. Delicious too! Your video was a big help. I kept coming back to reference it. :) I appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work!
My family and I have watched your video every October and always enjoy watching it. We did our concords yesterday, have some more tart ones to try today. Many thanks, you're very good at explaining.
Thank you so very much .. I got a huge pot of grapes all ready to go ... so i thin k ill be making two batches today .. you made it look very easy and relaxing .. so different than the arguing and fussing my aunts used to make when they got together to make jams and jellies..lol
Yes, we use to do it that way all the time. It takes longer and you have to test your jelly at different times. Let it come to a full rolling boil and let if boil for some time.when it starts to look glazed on top, put a spoonful on a saucer and put that in the freezer for a minute. Hold the saucer sideways and see how fast it is running. If it is slow to run your jelly is ready to go into the jars. It takes practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's not hard. Good luck!
great video, just did my first batch and is perfect! im not changing anything!! do need one of those nifty strainers like you have though, my equipment was a little laborious!!
I'm using your recipe again this year. People have already put their order in saying this grape jelly was the best. I used the pectin that required less sugar (4 cups sugar) Thanks again!
Like I said last week Mr shifflett pretty much everything I do with gardening and canning I've learned from you and that is the gospel truth have a great day sir
Got me some grapes so i could try this you make it look so easy! Mine turned out pretty awesome ty for sharing i would not have made any if i did not see your video so thank you so much for sharing
Well, you are right. It is a messy process so I guess I did it right. Wonderful instructions and my jelly is excellent. I did have extra juice left over from the first batch and used it in the second batch. I did not add extra sugar so it is not as sweet. But still, the second batch is great too. Thank you for publishing this video.
just picked my first batch of grapes today.I made jelly with my dad when I was a kid.I forgot how well now my boys and I are gonna get deep in it THANKS TO YOUR VID.It will be interesting at the least they like doing pickles.
I like to make my jellies and jams with Pamona's Pectin. It's great for using less sugar or sugar substitutes. The only substitute I like is Stevia in the Raw, and I usually do half that and half sugar. Only tried making grape jelly from real grapes once and it was one of my first jam attempts. Not that great. This inspires me to try it again next time I get a good deal on some fresh Concords. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Harold. I made my jelly and watched your video quite a few times while I was making it. BTW....the sure jell with 6 cups of grape juice and 7 cups of sugar is the best!!! I made two batches, one w/ jell ease and your recipe. There is so much grape flavor the way you did it! Thanks. Love your videos!
I tried with 8 jars. I'll use 11 jars tomorrow, thanks for the vid! I would have saved myself a lot of hassle If I had watched this first. The instructions that come with the sure jell pack read like a choose your own adventure book.
Thank you so much for this video. I am fixin' to make jelly for the first time from concord white grapes, at least I think that's what they are...lol. They taste like a muskidine to me. My step father planted them for me and this is the first year they really flourished. I have four Wal-Mart bags full right now and probably that much more on the vine. I will let you know how thy turned out. Thanks again!
Wow i wished i watched you before i did mine, I didn't do the butter, what a great idea! Good news is I have so many more grapes, I just might make some more jelly! What if i don't have a scale to weigh my grapes? Thanks for the great video, next time I will watch before I make my homemade grape jelly.
I just made some following a different recipe I saw before yours with the liquid pectin which I had never used and I was concerned because it's liquid when I poured it in the jars it just looks like grape juice but yours does too it looks like, so I hope it firms up! I've only made grape jam, not jelly...And I might have skipped ahead did you water bath yours? Also I always read don't tighten the bands really tight they're supposed to be a little loose, just finger tight when you put them in to WB.
Hello sir it’s awesome the way you make your jelly I would like to ask you if where did you buy the strainer of your grapes i love it please tell me where can I get like that strainer. Thank you so much I really appreciated…
You can measure by the juice amount if you don't have a scale. Thank you for watching. You can also freeze your grapes and make jelly during the winter.
I have the same kind of strainer that you do. It was my grandmother's. Did yours come with that stand? The stand I have isn't wide enough for me to get a very big bowl under it.
I didn't use a scale the important part is to make sure you use the right amount of juice and sure jell. The butter is a must as far as I am concerned.I have gave some to friends in the last week and they say it is the best they have ever had. I played with the sugar amount a little but that is all.
To make preserves I had forgotten one important step, I squeeze the grape out its skin and treat them separately, next run the grapes through a food mill, it separates the seeds from the grape. Then pour the seedless juice into the skins, follow your recipe. Good stuff, maybe a little grapeeyer than the original.
You can do it , but we don't. I have never had any problems with it keeping, but you have to get it into the jars when it is boiling hot to get a good seal. If you are doing it by yourself, it might be better to put it in a boiling water bath. My wife helps me and she gets the lids on fast. We have jelly that is two years old and when opened it has no mold on it. Good luck. Hope it works for you.
We are first time jelly makers and loved your video maded our jelly making easy! Question we did try one batch of sugar free because some of our family is diabetic we did one cup to juice to sweetener and the jelly did not gel over night? Do you have a tip to help us?
I have never made sugar free, but have made the recipe with less sugar. I am sorry , but I don't know what to tell you. You could try boiling again with some sure-jel. Good luck.
Enjoyed the video. About to make my first batch of wild grape jelly. Where did you find the strainer that you separated the juice from the pulp? Cant find any at my local hardware store, etc. Thanks in advance!
3rd year making jelly with your video. Everyone raves about how good it is. I just want to say thanks again for making this.
