I’ve been debating the CJ Harvard’s in cord vs the Gucci 1953 loafers and I think this has made my decision easy. The material here I think may be big factor
For me, it's an easy decision. But if you love the Gucci look and vibe I can't argue with that. $ for $ the CJ will of course be a better shoe in the long run, and last you a long long time
@@jessupsays definitely agree. Dollar to dollar (and with a price difference of 5 bucks aud between the two shoes) I think it’s a no brainer now. Cheers for the vid mate!
I used translate. I believe I understand. Yes the Alden is more IVy American, the Crockett more British Ivy. They're very very similar. But the Alden to me is the most comfortable and that's what I'm advising you to do. Find the most comfortable, my guess is it will be the Alden
I have the Harvard 2's in suede and i can tell you they are unlined and look like they have the same structure as your cordovan pair. They have a rubber 'city sole' though. We have quite a bit of rain here in the uk. They are quite tight round the toe on one foot, but i'm hoping they'll stretch a bit like you said in a previous video as i've only worn them once so far. Enjoying your videos.
Awesome! How do you find the City Sole? I've not tried it, but I usually find rubber to be less comfortable than leather, and just as slippery! My pair definitely stretched around the toes (both pair), though they did take a bit of time to get those pinky toes really happy. They are now though! Best of luck to you. I appreciate the support! Let me know if there's something you'd like to see from the channel :)
I bought the Harvards in brown suede half a size down from my usual because they were too big. They feel tight across the strap currently, will that break slightly after wear, any insights welcome. Cheers
Hey, actually had the same with my suede LHS from Alden. Basically the same loafer. They're super comfy now. I think because it's unlined it needs to start tight or it'll be floppy. It shouldn't be super super uncomfortable, but tight is fine in my experience. It should loosen
Thanks appreciate the response. Currently it is very tight on the bridge aspect when the loafer is lined. It leaves a mark on my foot. What I'm trying to work out is whether that will go with wearing in or I just need to send back! Tricky
Very tricky. I'd suggest sending them a message directly. I find their customer service really helpful. Share a video and some photos? It's possibly the last just doesnt fit you feet :'(
Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful! A very good question, I have a whole series on RM / the alternatives - ua-cam.com/video/HNOjUQ8UUjw/v-deo.html The TLDR is, does made in AUS matter to you? If not, then C&J is in my humble opinion, my go-to brand. My most recent video actually goes into this a bit too! Let me know what you think if you are able to watch.
@@jessupsays I have brown suede kiribili coz I am not a very big fan of the very visible stitching of moc toe. I work in a CBD office, 8/10 guys wear RM which I personal find to be bit 'uncouth' and too 'aussie.' Been thinking of getting brown calf maitland which seem sleek and versatile, but definitely dont want to be mistaken for another RM shoes on the street lol. would love to get your take since they are not cheap at $1300, should I explore other brands like carmina? Thanks
Fair enough! I actually like the stitching! Interesting! Hence the LHS! I agree re it being too Aussie (as a kiwi), though I obviously got a pair to experience what the 'hype' was about. I'm happy with them and I'd get them again, but not a 2nd pair, I'd go C&J or something. The Maitland is the DM exclusive and from memory its C&J Handgrade, so similar to EG at this level/ price point as well, which makes it good value when EG are like $3k lol. To my eye it is very different looking to an RM, and having tried it on its a comfortable last. Its probably the prettiest chelsea they offer IMHO. The Chelsea 3 is a bit less sexy for office purposes. Carmina, I would absolutely consider, they're a lot cheaper than a Handgrade is, BUT you may not be able to find the exact last here to try on to check they're comfortable. But if you can, then? You could save some money and get a boot that would be very comparable/ better quality than C&J (bench) and very similar to Handgrade honestly. Some of the recent stuff I've seen Carmina deliver is outstanding, seriously top quality. But I still come back to my Crocketts. I can't explain it.
After I bought Lopez from JL in suede and black calf Piccadilly Belgravia from EG I try a van last in suede My good is like you want to trash all the other shoes . I also wear a cavendish from CJ and fits me better then a 1200 belgravia from EG So I think each brand has something good I would says that CJ is the company that has the most icons models Like cavendish pembroke coniston and Boston Harvard . From EG , chealsea and Oxford models has no comparison with anybody . They are the best Anyway after I try most of the shoes from a Lot of brand I understand that we must buy shoes considering our feet and not choosing by model/ brand .
I'd definitely argue EG has more iconic styles than C&J. Chelsea, Dover, Galway and Piccadilly are all class leaders that other makers have very much tried to emulate. Does that justify the 2x price increase between EG and C&J handgrade? Depends. I own no bespoke shoes, several EGs, but at EGs current price point I think there is something to be said for just moving to a bespoke for a bit more, or at least a hand welted shoe. 10 years ago I would definitely go with the EG but their prices just keep inflating, the only reason I can see for that is to keep their pricing inline with competitors.
Sizing is always tricky. I believe technically it's -0.5 size from UK - US not a full size. E.g. Edward green brand their stuff as 6UK 6.5US. So I'm technically TTS on both. My other US stuff (whites etc) is also a 7. Also to note I like a snug fit, so depends what you're into?

thanks for the very informative video/channel. What do you think of the C&J Kirribilli and Maitland (especially to RM Williams)?

Apart from Double Monk store in Sydney, are there any other shoe stores that sell quality stylish loafers like the brands you mentioned?
Nothing springs to mind, but I don't know Sydney as well as Melbourne. If you want a store I don't know, for online I have suggestions
What sweater type is that, nice... Nice video!
Thank you! It's a Uniqlo roll neck! Great versatile knit
@@jessupsays much appreciated!
Do you downsize if you compare Van Last to Aberdeen Last or other Last from Alden?
I have only tried the Trubalance and the Van, and I got the same size in both> Hope that helps.
Your harvard is a uk 6.5 = US 7.5
Your Alden lhs is US7D
Safe to say you went half size down on the Alden based on your two pairs?

You're welcome, thanks for watching. Darth Lord.
how about sizing? are they comparatively sized the same?
Well, they're a UK / US comparison. But technically I took the same size! A 6.5UK and a 7US
