@@freshbeans except the fact that the mouthpiece of the clarinet is not even close to the oboe.... oboe is a double reed that requires you to pull your lips in and be like a reverse duck lip where clarinet lets your teeth rest on the mouthpiece while only curling your bottom lip in. it causes a lot of issues when you're used to playing a double reed and switch to a single reed... as an oboist... no it doesn't lol
I'm also an oboist and my sister let me borrow her clarinet once. It went about the same as you experience haha, biting the mouthpiece was mindblowing and when I tried to add vibrato she was like "wth are you doing" lmaooo
The fact he’s so used to the tiny reed/mouthpiece of an oboe makes this so much funnier! But, I play bass clarinet, so if I picked up a b flat, I’d probably have some issues 😂
I play oboe and clarinet, yes this is something you do if you look the clarinet has a pad on the mouthpiece to protect it and if it is a loved instrument it will have quite a bit of little teeth marks. Biting it helps give a better tone.
I genuinely wish the people in my band class could play oboe like you. I know they’re still learning but every time they try to make a sound it sounds like an animal dying.
One time when I was just starting out in playing the clarinet I had this ‘how to play the clarinet book’ with an OBOE as the instrument in the front cover
It is far easier to go from clarinet to oboe than the other way around...just remember that you have to keep your embouchure so that both your top and bottom lips are held balanced (and covering teeth) by your jaw and mouth muscles. And keep your tongue under the reed (so it doesn't get pinched).
You have convinced me to start learning the oboe. Unfortunately, I will not be able to play for a year or so, because if i start before I move my grandma will take it up as well, but it’s on my instrument bucket list
I’m a euphonium and a few days ago I got to play my friend’s clarinet for the first time and it was kinda weird. Bass clarinet is definitely a lot harder than Bb clarinet
As a euphonium player, I can relate to having your instrument be called the complete wrong thing. People are just like, “That’s a cool tuba.” or “I didn’t know you played tuba!” It’s very sad.
Oboes are such a pretty instrument. My sister plays clarinet and I currently play tuba so when I try to play or even hold her instrument it just feels so weird to me.
I play flute and trumpet and the other day I tried to play my friends saxophone and absolutely failed, like I couldn’t even get the ombrécure right it was literally painful
I tried the Clarinet back in 5th grade middle school for a few weeks. I had a wooden reed and i broke it so much by accident because of my underbite. I stopped after a few weeks and switched out of band. Squidward from SpongeBob was the reason why I wanted to try the clarinet as a kid.
My friend plays clarinet and oboe (certain instruments for certain songs at school.) He learned the clarinet last year in beginner band and then made it to first chair symphonic this year- over all of the eighth graders who have played for three years instead of two. The band director asked if he could play the oboe for the oboe solo in Shenandoah (is that how you spell it?) in American River Songs. My friend learned it quick too. He had to of course though, cuz we’re playing American River Songs for MPA, and he only started learning oboe a little bit into the school year. Still really cool though :D
As a clarinetist I hereby confirm that an oboe is indeed a cool clarinet 100% definitely not a completely different instrument
a *CoOl* clarinette
Oboe is just a better clarinet. I played clarinet in highschool marching band before I graduated this June.
Sarcasm 😂😂😂😂
PLEASE HELP how can I learn to play clarinet and saxophone wuicnly.and easily..I am very frustrated and depressed trying to learn as a young adult.
Same with bass clarinet 🤷♀️
That was the best « hi » ive ever heard 😭
I’m doing that next time, I say hi to someone
Same.!
Fr
As an clarinet player I have no words to say but it was beautiful
me too
Agreed. I also play clarinet. Proud clarinet players. 🥹❤
@@Where_Is_My_Sanity same 🥹
no but did they change reeds 😭😭😭😭 BC I DIDNT SEE THAT AND AS A CONCERNED CLARINETIST IM SCARED
@@youraveragelamb omg same! Lol
I hate it when people ask what kind of saxophone i play(i play bass clarinet)
Wdym bass clarinet all I see is a black saxophone 😂 (Nox if you ever see this I'm so sorry)
i mean, bass clarinet is invented by the creator of sax
Same but I play contra 💀
In my band, no one acknowledges the bass clarinets, mellophones, or euphonium. They all just get called something else
@@TheUltimateGameShowcaserYou mean Blaxaphone, Thicc Trumpet, and Fetus Tuba?
As a clarinetist, I’ll say that was genuinely a very impressive first try. Spencer has a better tone than I do 😂
well he is a professional oboist I'd assume a lot of that translates over to clarinet
Yeah I play the alto sax tho
@@freshbeans I'd say yes and no, I'm not an oboist so I can't say for sure but I know that they're quite distinct in a lot of ways

"it didn't work."

That “FrAnCe” caught me off guard

I love that comment I am also an oboist and my cousin let me use her clarinet and I had the same issue 😂
I always thought of the clarinet as our less cool sibling ☠️
I do this too, except I play flute and my brother plays euphonium lol
@@katsukibakugo8805flautists unite 💪
No way I play oboe and my sister played clarinet last year (she sucked tho)
As a clarinetist, I can confirm that all clarinetists say hi like that
As another clarinetist, I agree with that statement
as another clarinetist, i 100% agree with this! i did this before i even knew how to close the case
Yeah but has anyone ever shared there clarinet with there friends
i like how spencer tried to use the oboe fingerings
“It didn’t work”😂
bro plays better than me and ive been playing for years
It’s because he already plays oboe
As a person who plays clarinet, I’m impressed by your first try! It took me two days of practice to even get sound out😂
"It didn't work" was me as a 6th grader when I played clarinet lolll
I’m mainly a violinist and I remember my big jump to playing the clarinet… it was quite an interesting first experience lol😂
"Really? Thats so thought provoking"
Best word
not them using the same reed 😭
“That was so thought provoking” 😂
A part of my soul died when I saw oboe and heard clarinet
"Say hi"
*Proceeds to shred like Squidward never could*
"Ok"
As a clarinet player I am afraid of how fast he gan go over the bar 😭
The fact he’s so used to the tiny reed/mouthpiece of an oboe makes this so much funnier! But, I play bass clarinet, so if I picked up a b flat, I’d probably have some issues 😂
Where did Josh get his clarinet from
Feel like the algorithm knew I had just recently started practicing clarinet again.
as a clarinet player, you are an absolute god
TIP OF THE TONGUE TIP OF THE REED!😂😂 I always call my friends squidward u should too
That is such a cool instrument! My friend plays oboe and loves your content!
It's giving "I finger you blow" 🙌✨️😭
Bro learned how to play clarinet faster than i could say, "he took playing Oboe to the next level-"
As an oboist, I did not know that you had to bite the clarinet's mouthpiece like that-
Yup. A well-loved mouthpiece will have indents on the top where your teeth rest.
I play oboe and clarinet, yes this is something you do if you look the clarinet has a pad on the mouthpiece to protect it and if it is a loved instrument it will have quite a bit of little teeth marks. Biting it helps give a better tone.
"That was definetly not a hi" 😂😂😂
As a clarinet player I would never allow somebody else to put my mouthpiece in their mouth!!! Gross! 🤢
as a clarinet player all i can say is that im very proud of you and it was beatiful🥹
Put it in your mouth 👄 and blow 🌬️
Peppa pig once said "just put your lips together and blow"
my english teacher called me squidward when he was talking about how cool saxophones and clarinets are😅
I play oboe but i started off on clarinet I probably could get some notes out but I don’t remember how to play it tho 😂
You have to tighten your embouchure
His face when you almost played Rhapsody in Blue like “Wait, wha-“
not the FRAAAUNCE clip out of nowhere 💀💀
I genuinely wish the people in my band class could play oboe like you. I know they’re still learning but every time they try to make a sound it sounds like an animal dying.
As a clarinetist and bass clarinetist that scale Josh did at the beginning was perfect
"FRÆÑÇÈ" 😭
As a horn player i indeed see two clarinet players /j
Jokes aside that was amazing for your first time
“We don’t use vibrato”
“I do”
Me as a jazz bone talking to my friend who plays tenor before jamming 😂
as a clarinet player, this hurt me to watch, even though i started a few months ago, it still hurt me inside
"say hi" **difficult piece** "ok"
One time when I was just starting out in playing the clarinet I had this ‘how to play the clarinet book’ with an OBOE as the instrument in the front cover
Just starting back on clarinet, and his “hi” makes me want to give it back up. What was I thinking 🤣
Your first attempt was extremely good. I taught my friend the clarinet and it took her 5-6 hours to get to the low notes and even that's good.
the amount of sass in that “it didn’t work 🙄” was PALPABLE
As a clarinet player that was the most beautiful “hello”
I play Clarinet and bro played clarinet better than I even can😭💀
STOP I CRACK UP IN EVERY SHORT THAT HAS THE MISS UNIVERSE FRANCE REFERENCE
The fact he went for the Gershwin intro 🤣
I also play the clarinet and would to learn to play the Oboe. 😅I really like this video❤

The fact that josh said hi but play the clarinet
As a clarinetist, Josh’s hands had a seizure at the beginning.
You have convinced me to start learning the oboe. Unfortunately, I will not be able to play for a year or so, because if i start before I move my grandma will take it up as well, but it’s on my instrument bucket list
“We don’t use vibrato” him: “I do 💁🏻♂️” 😂
As a clarinet getting the first note out was the hardest part but once you get how to shape your mouth than your golden.
chromatic as a hi is so funny
Him saying hold it as first step reminds me of the ad of the dad traching his son how to drive and his first lesson is getting in the car lmao 🤣

That is in fact how clarinetist say hi. “Hello” is the opening glis to Rhapsody in Blue

I play oboe and I’ve just started learning the clarinet for marching band. I squeak *SO* much!!😂😂
As a proud Clarinet play, I can confirm that was the most harmonuis C, to D, to E I have ever heard in my lifespan
Oboes are such a pretty instrument. My sister plays clarinet and I currently play tuba so when I try to play or even hold her instrument it just feels so weird to me.

That was an awesome first time playing as a clarinet player, you did better than my first day with it
The references 😂😂😂

The “we don’t use vibrato” “I do”😂😂😂
Why do i want to see him try flute as a flute player watching this😂😂
I play flute and trumpet and the other day I tried to play my friends saxophone and absolutely failed, like I couldn’t even get the ombrécure right it was literally painful
