You make a good point. It reminds me of a conversation I had with someone about electronic music. I feel like there are times when a sub culture or genre are....not sure how to word this....I'm gonna use the words "taken over" by the masses rather than the actual genuine members of that sub culture or genre because it started trending. I love EDM. I was listening to EDM when it was not being thrusted into the market so heavily as well as watching Anime before it was so heavily commercialized. But then things changed. The definition kind of changed. New people inspired by it came and added their contributions. It became trendy. Everyone wanted some. And I welcome them but at the same time if you are not full in the door like the true genuine members then to the genuine members....all that trendy stuff is watered down to us. ITs not even a complaint. Just weird to watch the trendy commercialized stuff get more hype than the genuine true art. I love EDM. Dubstep is awesome. Trance and House is a listening experience. Absolutely beautiful contributions to music. I also like skrillex the Dubstep DJ. Skrillex is soo commercialized and trendy. But skrillex is not a genuine member but rather inspired by them. His music is dubstep enough to be classified as dubstep and Its incredible music. But his trendy commercialized stuff gets more hype than the genuine true art. But at the same time Skrillex put the spotlight on the genre and a lot of new art and money was created in the music economy. It was good for the genre and other artists but hard to watch Skrillex and his brand of watered down dubstep get the lime light while the genuine true art just kind of exists underneath the massive shadow of the commercialized stuff now. It almost feels like some of the genuine stuff is viewed as B rate now. Don't get me wrong. Skrillex makes 100% sick tracks hands down. Just listen to TroyBoi - WARLORDZ (feat. Skrillex). That is an epic track. Its a Masterpiece. I still like the watered down stuff. I just feel that its a sub genre of the sub genre. But I digress. Entertainment I consume now like movies, games like beat Saber and Saints Row or radio stations have EDM now because of the trendy commercialized stuff. Easily find trendy artist like imagine dragons and skrillex in things you consume. Everybody knows Avicii or David Guetta. But I fear they won't ever get the chance to experience some Matt Lange - Bleed Together. Or some We Know - Vintage & Morelli Remix by Boom Jinx. Or even some ANUBIS-XIII - Black Diamond Genesis. This was an interesting video and made me ponder things. I like pondering things while getting stoned off of a donkey
Really informative. I think I'm one of those people who had a misconception of what Goth is, but after seeing what it really is through you and other media, I still think it's pretty dope stuff. At the very least, it's interesting to learn about from an outsider's perspective. And I'm liking these topical videos, they feel much more unique and engaging!
Goths were a dark age european tribe called well goths, they migrated from their place of origin (southern sweeden) to the mainland of europe and into parts of the roman empire. The goths divided forces and became ostrogoths and visigoths and settled in italy and spain, they were responsible for those noteworthy gothic cathedrals and thus inspired modern day gothic novels and later became more or less yeah.
Sisters of mercy was my first goth band that I encountered back in the 80's. The song 1959 got me into the whole goth movement, as well as cry little sister from the lost boys soundtrack.
This was so well researched! I'm glad you're feeling more confident when it comes to presenting, creating, and curating new forms of content, yay su! ❤️ Be still my goth heart!
I was bullied as a kid for being emo/having a darker aesthetic and went thru normal-ifying myself just to round back to the alternative aesthetic as an adult. The memes r heartwarming to me 😌😌
The Cure and Sisters of Mercy were on constant play for me in the 80s lol. ive always been a creepy, halloween loving, goth readying, always in black kid lol. its like the bane meme. "you simply adopted the darkness. i was born in it. molded by it."
I think another aspect of the desire to have a goth gf is what you might call "edginess by association." They want to be "cool and edgy", but not go through the effort of actually being edgy.
Big Tiddy Cult Girlfriend Susu coming back with another very well made video about the history of subculture in the internet, nice. Could make that a whole series!
I am 55 years old. high school was all of these bands sisters, Sioxsie etc. I was all black clothes piercing and tattoos in the 80's. your are right on point with this. I lived through the D&D is evil metal is evil ,eyeliner on guys is evil. phase. Love your style you are spot on. Throwing a sub and keep it up.
8 days in my boys and the temptation is as strong as always. But fear not, we will pass this and succeed. We will achieve greatness and thrive once again. Farewell for now my brothers.
I already failed.. when you're engaged to a Virgo woman who's Pagan and into witchcraft and spiritual stones, you intend to get turned on by her charming ways 🤷
I Love the history lessons, SuSu. Absolutely spellbinding. You've always been a mainstay of the Goth culture for me. Love your stuff!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 And thanks for dropping those two names Hex Hypoxia and Dani Divine. Awesome Social media on those two.
Gives me nostalgia for my university days, a couple of decades ago, swanning around a regional university town in a mix of goth/byronic themed attire. My favourite Sisters of Mercy track has always been Marian. This PSA brought to you in order to sate the algorithm's ever-growing hunger.
Thank you for this thoughtful and comprehensive overview on Goth Girlfriend culture. As someone on the outside, I've always been curious about how it started, so this was really fascinating to watch.
as a skater that grew up in the 90s, i always felt a kindred spirit with the goth kids since the teachers hated us equally. i almost got in trouble for arguing with a teacher. she was saying that goth kids only wanted attention. i have anger issue so i probably could've handled the situation a little better. in the end we just agreed to disagree. and... ngl a girl with a mohawk sounds hot to me.
They want to express themselves. It's healthy. Honestly we'd be better off if goth made a comeback; now people just play victim and wallow in self pity
@@janwells1190 Thanks, England! (Love me some Bauhaus.) Are there still actual goths there I wonder? And is there any new European goth music I should know about? Not My God is all I know of.
Great video Susu...when you mentioned Dani Devine my heart stopped because outside of one other person I know...I haven't heard any talk or mention her before. Took me back to my younger years 🤣
That was quite insightful. I enjoy videos like this and I'm looking forward to more stuff like it if that's some of the new content you're bringing to the channel.
Very cultured video. I really appreciate the sheer amount of core values on display here. This is good ol fashion christian fun if i've ever seen it before.
Gotta say i love your outfit for this vid. Looks quite stunning. Do the sleeves of the top flare to the elbows, or is it more of a draped "cape" or attached fabric along the back of the arm to give it the flared look? Is the top separate from the dress, or is it a full dress? Depending on which, does a skirt/dress/pants work better for the bottom? would love to use it as reference for some future goth aesthetic art. These are things I've got to know. lol. Also an excellent video as well. Always love learning about the BTGGF meme.
I've known actual goth girls, and they can come with their own whole set of problems like hygiene and social awkwardness, just like any other teen... plus pancake makeup and cutting. Determining the difference between those who are drawn to the macabre (like Susu) versus those who are trying to hide, or become invisible, or self harm, can be very tricky.
sounds like you got the Emo subculture there, in 15 years of the height of goth music being mainstream in the uk, very few at all were the image you painted there, they were not overly macabre either
@@Gomorragh I was going to say that what OP describes sounds more like the 2000s Emo scene, not so much the Goth scene I remember from the decade before.
Hey Nick Goodnough, I only partially agree with you. Not all Goth's have a hygiene problem and not all Goth's hurt themselves or do any of the stereotypical things attributed to them by ideals of society. I hate it when people pin their own ideas of what it means to be something onto someone that is that particular thing, but doesn't adhere to the ideals given to them.
@@iDEATH When I met my first emos in early -00's who identified with that term and explained what it meant, they were wearing more brown than black, but yes, heavy make-up and more about depression, self-destruction and "feeling emotional". I hate how it's bled into the goth aesthetics and maybe culture, so much that I can't tell them apart in people's speech anymore.
Can confirm from personal experience. Stay away from the crazy, folks. (Disclaimer - I'm not demonizing people with actual mental health issues. I sincerely hope they get the help they need.)
I've been sort of part of the dark subculture since the 80s. I got Ozzy's Diary of a Madman in 82 because of the dark cover and loved the music. After that I got into punk, hardcore, and goth as I found out about them. I had a love of horror and dark creepy thing before I found out about all that music, and when I did find out I really dove into it.
I was 3 in 82, but growing up preinternet and being into metal and dark horror stuff I gravitated to goth stuff way before I knew “goth” was a thing lol Being very introverted and growing up in the Bible Belt, most things I was interested in weren’t widely available.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (specifically the Pink Invaders of Gary Indiana) was where I met my first "Hot Goths" in the early 2000's. Very much pre meme environment, the rise in popularity of using the internet definitely made it spread as you have described for sure, but "Hot Goth Girlfriends" definitely predate meme culture. (This is in no way intended as a rebuttal or invalidation of the video just my 2 cents in addition too, this video was excellent.)
I can relate to that, being a former goth and later into styles like punk, emo, skater punk and alternative, I think that the same thing is happening with emo girls now, if you look at MGK's Emo Girl video for example it features two girls that had nothing to do with emo and are rather more like modern e-girls or tiktokers, it's and idealized version of what a real emo girl is but when guys who have crushes on these girls they usually get disgusted by real emo girl. Anyway nice video and very well informed, keep up the good work.
Awesome video Susu. Thank you for educating the normies, and really being a cheerleader for goth culture. For a long time I was shamed into pushing my gothness internally by ex's and my very catholic family (Funny story, when I was in my late teens, I once wore a Marylin Manson t-shirt with "God is Dead" on the back to a big family gathering. It did not go down well at all 😆) and also random assholes shouting freak, while pelting us with stones. But in recent years I've been flocking with kindred spirits, and once again wearing the darkness on the outside. Its thanks to those friends and people like you, Dani Devine, suicide girls, Cervena Fox and countless other people on social media, who are a constant insperation to be open, embrace the gothness, and, to paraphrase the lyrics of the KMFDF song, "Let my freak flag fly." Thank you for all that you do Susu 🖤
When you brought up Goth in general. I was listening to 1980s bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, Clan of Xymox, Depeche Mode. There are great bands out there still when it comes to the lifestyle. Thankgod for Spotify and UA-cam when it comes to researching as well 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🦇🕸️🎶⚰️
Goth girlfriend has been a thing longer than you think. Back in the 1960's there was Lily Munster and Morticia Addams. Then in the 70's Elvira became very popular. I'm sure there's a lot I'm leaving out too.
Great literature study, Gothy Susu! A great history of Goth arc-culture too! All goth mechanisms were founded in the 1600-- create a nature that won't live undone during the day! Always more for everyone too. Looking forward to more content! EDIT: A Necromancer! Awesome! O_O
I came up before goth and watched a bunch of what you reference grow and develop, saw Souxie in person, check Throbbing Gristle!??? (if you haven't already). Very nice history references (Hex Girls)! I am quite pleased to have seen the Goth Girl seed sprout, grow and now blossom!!
My Goth girlfriend awakening happened the first time I saw The Craft and I had the biggest crush on Fairuza Balk. It further developed when I watched the 1991 The Addams Family movie with Anjelica Huston. It's funny that you bring up Drake & Josh because I remember that episode and when it showed that fantasy sequence, all I could think of at the time was, "Lucky bastard." I think my interest in BTGG (or GGs in general) is due to the fact that I've always felt out-of-place in society plus I'm a bit odd myself; I enjoy strolls through cemeteries, reading Edgar Allan Poe, the occult, crows/ravens, snakes, macabre history topics like the Spanish Inquisition, Jack the Ripper and global witch trials, vampires, lycanthropy, demonology and shamanism. (BTW Susu, you are a beautiful woman and I'm glad to hear that you're feeling more confident with yourself :))
What I find interesting is that the entire Goth subculture is based on the architecture, not the art/sculptures of the gothic times. If you look at gothic art, you find some interesting imagery and sometimes a skull or brooding theme here and there but mostly colorful realistic art, where the architectures contrast with themes to invoke fear, despair, darkness, etc.
@@pigeonsareugly unfortunately they chose spooky looking shapes and designs, and time withers everything to look creepy. Also something tall is naturally a bit intimidating or foreboding.

This was a great look into a sub culture, and I look forward to more videos. Thanks SuSu. In high school I was trying to find my place; I was a Korean American tennis player that liked DND, smash bros and Kurt Cobain. It always seemed I wasn’t enough to fit in with any of the core groups, let alone meeting the expectations of my parents. So I always envied the freedom of expression of the goth group.
I had a big tiddy goth gf when I was much younger, but got weirded out by her wanting to bite me and drink my blood. That's how you get blood poisoning. 😓😓 I'll accept Susu as my next one if the blood is bought from the supermarket, then it's food grade too and can be used for pancakes and crepes unlike my own precious blood which will stay in my veins thank you.
I am thankful for this video as I am thankful for goth style and history. I didn't know it when I chose the name "Necrostevo" during AOL instant messenger days, but my interest in dark, macabre, and goth and punk aesthetics would develop. Themes and ideas going meme-stream have an incidental chance for more people to be exposed, but the more people that are involved, then there is a great chance for misrepresentation and/or evolution/mutation. Thanks for putting the spotlight on this. Kindly remove it as that light is far too bright and is not showing my makeup in a flattering manner.

Great video! Fun to hear you talk about the ladies I hung out with in the 80s. And 90s. And now, come to think of it...
Loving your insight on the meme, Susu. I also love these type of videos you make, keep it up!
first time listener--you're great! I never liked GOTH but meeting you I think I'm a new fan.
Another banger bro
Susu talking about Mavis, the timelines are converging.
Wow, this was one of your best videos. It's like a PSA to widen the narrow internet fed minds. Great job 👍.
I never expected such an indepth explanation of goth culture
I am 55 years old. high school was all of these bands sisters, Sioxsie etc. I was all black clothes piercing and tattoos in the 80's. your are right on point with this. I lived through the D&D is evil metal is evil ,eyeliner on guys is evil. phase. Love your style you are spot on. Throwing a sub and keep it up.
I Just saw this video on my suggested list and clicked on it. I KNOW NOTHING about goth but You Just GAINED a new subscriber!
8 days in my boys and the temptation is as strong as always. But fear not, we will pass this and succeed. We will achieve greatness and thrive once again. Farewell for now my brothers.
Bom dia
I ask you to succeed for me my brother, I failed on the first day
I failed at exactly 12:01 am on nov 1 on purpose >:)
I already failed.. when you're engaged to a Virgo woman who's Pagan and into witchcraft and spiritual stones, you intend to get turned on by her charming ways 🤷
I see the struggle is real 😂
"type O negative " best goth rock
Haha, I felt the same way growing up. I also used to say I'm a "Skater Goth" 😂
Mohawks usually tend to be more punk tbh. Maybe a deathhawk?
I was a skater and a goth in the late 80s. Still love skating, Goth comes fromEngland in the 80s
Great video! Enjoyed this researched format, hope this works out and you do more in this style… buen hecho!
I've see you so much with MxR! Love your vids! Just wanted to express love from Puerto Rico!
That is a great fuckin album love me some ozzy hell when he was with black sabbath he was amazing
I was 3 in 82, but growing up preinternet and being into metal and dark horror stuff I gravitated to goth stuff way before I knew “goth” was a thing lol Being very introverted and growing up in the Bible Belt, most things I was interested in weren’t widely available.
@@gumbomudderx7503 I grew up in Philly so more things were available. Most people thought I was a weird freak. I never cared about that so I was good.
I love this content Susu. Keep it up.
As an elder goth lady. I appreciate this video. Thank you.
Just made this point. Big tit goths were a thing in the early 2000s when goth culture was at its peak. The meme stuff was a rehash
I agree, but I think it goes back further than that. I'm in my 60s and my first goth crushes were Morticia Addams and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
Bro it goes back to the actual *victorian gothic* era lmao
@@Hambo325 hmm big difference between the gothic aesthetic era and big tit goth girls
I was expecting a meme did not expect to learn some new cool things. An unexpected surprise but a welcomed one.
You are super amazing , and very good at explaining to us older folks these things. Thank you.
Thankgod for Spotify and UA-cam when it comes to researching as well 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🦇🕸️🎶⚰️
Xymox are too often overlooked!
love the content Susu hope to see more thank you
Goth girlfriend has been a thing longer than you think.
Awesome! O_O
One of my favorite things about science fiction/fantasy conventions and metal shows is the abundance of glorious Goth girls
History lesson on a passion of yours? Ideal! Thank you for all your content; anything you make is sure to be primo!
It's not based on the architecture at all, it's heavily influenced by Gothic Literature and romanticism.
Gothic architecture was originally designed to be as tall and light as possible not dark and brooding lol
@@pigeonsareugly unfortunately they chose spooky looking shapes and designs, and time withers everything to look creepy. Also something tall is naturally a bit intimidating or foreboding.
I’d love closing my eyes and listening to you read creepy stories before going to sleep!
Me too!!
Tales from the Crypt
temple of love 92 is the best sisters of mercy song ever released, and and i played my album peakaboo by siouxie and the banshees to bits, love that era of music
and Danni Devine is perfectly named, i had the biggest thing for her for a long time
Fully agree with you Susu. Awesome as always.
Just breathtakingly beautiful and spooky 🙏🖤 love your content 🖤🙏
This was a great look into a sub culture, and I look forward to more videos. Thanks SuSu. In high school I was trying to find my place; I was a Korean American tennis player that liked DND, smash bros and Kurt Cobain. It always seemed I wasn’t enough to fit in with any of the core groups, let alone meeting the expectations of my parents. So I always envied the freedom of expression of the goth group.
man I am old. I had this whole thing happen prior to most of you being born. Elvira, Richies' Wednesday.
This was enthralling thank you.
How unrefined. They're are much more sanitary methods of blood retrieval, biting is so... Barbaric.
How about your menstrual blood ?
@@user-zg3gh8xg9v what about the original comment alluded to OP being female?
Do goth girls even like Christmas? Asking for a friend
as soon as someone says goth i instantly think back to my first trip to camden market in early 2000s
One of my neighbor girls I grew up next door to, now has a hearse to drive for a few weeks near halloween and other party times.
Look that pepe plush to knife ratio!
This video is like a well written and well researched college presentation about big bioty goth girls lol very informative
2017 with Sam is one heluva year
HELLO, Goblin Queen.
Her: Humans are disappointing
Me: this is very true.
Hey bud dont let someone bully you for what you like..i was always the lonely like outside kid and honestly i enjoyed those moments alone trying not to hurt things because im a gentle giant and playing with butterflies and catterpillars and exploring is some of the best time i had.. even if im alone and crippled now and cant work im glad i had that childhood and i can share my stories with others :)
