It’s crazy how much Lonzo not being there changed the bulls
the bulls had a quiet offseason but it was a good one, they need a healthy lonzo for sure though.
Too bad that isn’t happening anytime soon.
Idk about “good”, especially bc they could’ve started to rebuild but didn’t pull the trigger. Instead they resigned Vuce and kept DeRozan. You can say they almost advanced past the play-in if they had beat the Heat but they most likely would’ve lost in the 1st round. Look at what the Wizards (my team) got for Beal this offseason. They could’ve gotten multiple 1st round picks and maybe a young player or two if they had decided to rebuild a year or two ago. The Bulls might surprise everyone and go over .500 but they’re not competing for a title anytime soon.
@@ceejuschristThe problem with NBA fans is that you either have to be a contender or rebuilder. I’m a Bulls fan, I’m fine with 1st round exits IF(!) the team is fun during regular season. Not every team can contend at the same time, not every team can rebuild.
@@lonepengueen9187bro it’s not a problem, it’s an expectation to be competitive or at the very least have direction. Other than Patrick Williams who are your young players with upside? In the early 2010s I was content with the 1st round exits with Wall and Beal but the past few years me and most Wiz fans were begging for a rebuild. We have direction via a rebuild; young players, tradable contracts, vets on minimums, etc. Bulls have an aging DeRozan, a broken down Lonzo, an underperforming Center with Vuce (when they could’ve just kept Carter), and Patrick Williams who still hasn’t had a breakout season. Is that what you want for a franchise with 6 rings and the amazing D-Rose teams of the 2010s?
i think resigning Vuc to a traceable deal is fine but they need to make a move. the Torrey Craig move is also good. The big three is just not gonna go anywhere.

Hey Matt, would it be possible if you turned the injury frequency down a tad or the injury severity so players aren't always missing 8 weeks? I love the realism of your rebuilds although it seems some really young and healthy talent get randomly injured. Keep up the awesome content❤

I think a main issue for the Bulls is similar to the Celtics. The Celtics refused to trade Smart for anything, just like the Bulls are refusing to trade Caruso for anything. Don’t get me wrong, both of those guys are extremely valuable, but trading them can make you better (which we may or may not see with the Celts).

I like Jevon Carter for that price. I like Torrey Craig for that price. Coby White is a reasonable keep bc he’s so young and it wasn’t that much. I like the 2RP of Phillips.
I just don’t like Jevon and Craig for CHI. I assume they’ll re-sign Ayo, so it’s gonna be a really crowded back court. Caruso, Ayo, Jevon, Coby, Dalen is a combo guard really, then obv LaVine. That’s a TON of 1/2s man. Then Vucevic…it’s whatever. I don’t rly think there was much of a market out there for him. I’d like it a lot better if it was a 2y/40M with a 3rd year non gtd, or a 3rd year partial gtd. Maybe it’s 18.5 Y1, 20 Y2, then Y3 is 21.5 with like 2.5M gtd or something.
I don’t understand really why a team who badly needed a backup PG didn’t sign Jevon. Especially MIL, they straight up don’t have a backup lol. Jevon played 81g for them, started 20+, and played like around 25MPG or whatever. I bet they’re in the tax heavily, but they could’ve kept him for relatively cheap. He got 3/20 from CHI. They could’ve offered him like 5.7M Y1 w 8% raises in Y2/Y3. That’d be like 3/18.468M. Then Y4 give him 6.532M (so 4/25M) but only 2M and change of it is gtd. So 4/25 with 3/20.5M gtd. He gets to be the clear backup, get 20-25MPG and start when Jrue is out, and be on a contending team. If they waive him after 3y he gets 20.5M, if they pick up his option it’s 4/25M.
I know MIL is expensive, but dude them losing Jevon is gonna HURT. He was their backup, played 81g, started some, played like nearly 25MPG. Now they rly don’t have a solidified backup.
Like 3/20 for MIL is only just over 6M Y1 with 8% raises. It’d be 3/19.44M. Couldn’t they have offered him like…5.7M Y1 with 8% raises, so 3/18.468M, then a 4th year at 6.532M partially gtd for 2M and change? So it’d be 4/25M, with 3/20.5M gtd. That’s more $ than CHI offered, and it’s a better situation. Like in CHI you’ve got Caruso, Ayo, Coby, LaVine, and then Dalen Terry is like a big combo guard. That’s a super crowded back court. In MIL, it’s legit you and Jrue. He played EVERY game for them last year, started a bunch, had a career year.
I get MIL has tax concerns, but going in to the season without a real backup PG is insane. They paid like $84M in tax for 22-23. If they signed Jevon to the deal I said, they’d owe like $60M in tax at most and that’s w 15 guys. Could’ve no signed someone else and saved more. And they have Grayson coming off the books next year, BroLo’s deal is front loaded, Connaughton is flat, 3 minumum guys will come off the books, then a 2nd round pick salary, UDFA salary. The only salaries going up are Portis by a little, Middleton, Giannis, MarJon by a tiny amount, then Jrue has a player option.
So their salaries are gonna be lower next year. Jrue is making $37M this year (23-24)…next year is his age 34 year. There’s no way they’re paying him >$37M year 1 of his next deal. Jrue will be 2y older and his PO will be less than Middleton’s. Middleton took $31.48M year 1 of his new deal. So I’d expect Jrue to come to a similar deal. Something that’ll save them like $5M+ for next year.
It seems like they really cut a corner not bringing back Jevon. They’re already a thin team, and to let your literal only backup PG walk, with no way to replace him, is negligence. Especially when your overall salaries will go down next year. Grayson is less important to them to Grayson Allen. Jevon can actually defend his position and he shot like 40% 3P last year, and can handle the ball. They brought in a bunch of wings (Andre Jackson, AJ Green, Beasley) and have MarJon, Connaughton, Crowder, Middleton.
Idk what MIL is gonna do when these guys age out. Giannis contract is 23-24, 24-25, then a PO for 25-26. So he can walk after 2 more seasons. That’s exactly when BroLo will prolly retire, Middleton will have a player option for his age 34 season, and Jrue will be like 35. Connaughton will have a PO, Portis PO, MarJon last year of his rookie deal, that’s really the entire roster.
It would surprise me to see Giannis leave, but at that point…they’re not gonna be competitive. And his player option is perfect timing. It’s hard to believe he’ll be on MIL in 2026.
The Bulls have a direction- might not be what you agree with. AKME wants to win and them keeping the big three of Lavine, Derozan and Vuc proves that. They want to surround them with shooters, solid role players, and defenders, which they did all throughout their time in Chicago, bringing in Caruso, Drummond, Carter, Craig, DJJ. They've also made it a priority to keep their young, up and coming guys like Pat Will and Coby who had his best year last year. Hopefully Ayo will come back too. Give this group the season with the additions they made and see what they accomplish. I feel like they have the talent, they just need to play consistent which they didn't do last year

I don't think there's a chance in hell the Lakers take that trade without a first round pick, but maybe I'm wrong. I think it also depends highly on how successful the Lakers are this year with AD, and what Bron's plans are
