i must say, i used to think that rick was just a meme. but tonight i did a deep dive watching almost all his videos. this has been quite the experience. how is this legend not more than just a meme? he deserves more. good music should be good music, not the crap that plays on the radio now.

ikr but it's because he sells authenticity and optimism even his most melancholy songs have light and the end of it. Which doesn't sell in the mainstream music industry. He left the music industry in the 90s because he didn't like the business side of it. I haven't seen a lot more details on it but it sounds like it's because the industry was pushing him to make the right business decisions that went against things he stood and cared for. So he just retired for sometime and raised his daughter because... "That's what heroes do."
Listened to this when I was at my lowest point and it brought me back from a dark part of my life.

The older Rick Astley gets, the better he sounds. I have been a fan on his music since his 1st album was played on the radio, while I was in high school. I would love to see him in concert someday. This song hit me harder than I was expecting... after 9 years, my wife left me and took my kids. It's been a month and half already, haven't seen my kids since I left to go to work.. legal stuff going, court dates for temporary custody and my shattered life to put together. I tried soo hard for 9 years to be the best man I could and I feel broke because it seems like it was never enough. She could smile and tell me she loves me, just to be thinking others. My confidence is shattered and I felt soo down... but I must try. I must try for my kids, to give them the life they deserve, the love and support they need. I must try to face every day with my head up held up high, not for me, but for my kids. I must try...

I wouldn’t call it a cry for help, but Rick didn’t have a lot of confidence in himself until he released the self made album "50" in 2016. Songs like "Keep Singing" got attention from a lot of UA-camrs like Philip DeFranco and Tay Zonday.
He's at peace with his meme status now and he finds it "bizarre but funny" - he's learned to love the famous song again and ultimately it's to his benefit since he gains a big audience which otherwise wouldn't exist if not for that song

I went for my results on the 2nd November told i have breast cancer invasive ductal cancer grade and grade 3 triple negative. I was booked to go to see Rick astley my partner wasnt going to go . Me and my gf are almost 4 years together and she is love of my life.
