Tom Keane I'd have to check, but it was a few years ago for me too. Not as early as 2008 though. I've actually got friends in the music business here in Nashville that I've turned Josh's videos onto. I can't believe they haven't snagged him up. It's their loss.
Josh has the amazing natural ability to sound like every artist he plays, without sounding like an imitation. This song is great, I wish they jammed it longer.
I was looking for another JOSH TURNER and found him instead ! So much better!! He in turn led me to Reina Del Cid !! Going to see Josh, Carson , Reina Del Cid and Toni Lindgren in Albuquerque this Saturday night !!!
+James Bibow -- Josh took an African song with New York City lyrics and performed it in blue grass style! To me that's extraordinary, and much more difficult than converting the Grateful Dead, Beatles, or Elton John to bluegrass the way others have done (cf. "Know You Rider" by Greensky Bluegrass, "Strawberry Fields" by Hayseed Dixie, or "Rocket Man" by Iron Horse).
I love everything Pul Simon ever did and I'm starting to feel the same way about Josh. He's such an accomplished musician with lots of time in front of him. I watched this twice and I'm sure I'll be back again.
speaking as a lifelong 60+ musician, i really appreciate your attention to music detail. but more than that, your magnetism for young talent and confidence to not overshadow them is awesome.
It's not just that you're a good musician, you are a musical prodigy. You have a way of making even a song heard and played a 1000 times seem new and fresh. A very rare talent!!
I saw my first Josh Turner video few weeks ago, made a McLovin look-alike joke. I take it back Josh - you're the real deal, a true died in the wool musician, someone who chamelianizes to his musical environment to let everyone shine thru. Brilliant vision !!
One of the coolest things about having like 10 years of material on your UA-cam account is being able to watch your progression. Your string skills are obvious, but your voice and charisma has gotten folds better too. Thanks for the entertainment!
I have been following Josh for 10 years and am dazzled by his great musianship. I was delighted to hear that he is now able to earn his living playing music. Its just a matter of time before the whole world finds about him. Keep the music coming, my boy.
Every time I see you play it brings a smile to my face, not just because of how amazing it sounds, but also because of how much everybody gets into and has fun. I think that's what playing music with your friends is about.
I realise this thread’s 2 years’ old, but, if you haven’t already, check out his new album - all uploaded to UA-cam in the past day or so. His song writing has, in my opinion at least, come a LONG way.
I love this rendition of a great, complex and lovely song. And I love how Josh shares the stage with his fellow musicians, rather than dominating it. He is a real talent and draws out lovely sounds from everyone.
Every spring Savannah has this show in the Savannah Music Festival... it starts in the last week of March and continues until mid-April. Come on down (or up, or over...)
@@DanielinLaTuna Indiana is mid-west, kinda of a "country boy in the city" thing. I think Josh has relocated to Brooklyn, or somewhere in NY, so that would be country boy in THE city, I guess.
I loved this song growing up. Fond memories listening to such an upbeat tune with friends. Josh - it's a privilege to hear your group's rendition and it brings a smile to my face to see you capture all the joy in music in all you do. I can say it... I saw Josh on UA-cam!!
My mother joined the heavens over 20 years ago and this was one of her favorites. Thank you for bringing such youth and class to this gem. You blessed me with this.
I hadn’t heard this in a long time. What a joyful performance. There is nothing better than a Josh performance when he is totally into the music & is having fun!
Love it!!! Young people using their God-given talents to bless us all with their music. Thank you Josh and all the musicians for sharing your gifts, and continuing to produce the best videos on UA-cam!
For all poeple who talk about "there is no more good old handcrafted music around these days", this video (and a lot others) is highly recommended. Greetings from Germany, which is hot and dry now for three months. We need rain! And maybe it would be a good idea to ask Josh and some of his folks to come over and play a rain song. I am almost sure it would work.
OK! that is one of my all time favorite tunes off one of my all time favorite recordings added to the fact that I am your biggest fan in CA. You guys did a great rendition. I want to see you guys in concert here. (I sound like a school girl and I'm way too old and way too male to be such a fan, but such is life, can't always determine what matters to you.) Great job Josh, I am just a big old fan.
Came to Josh because of Martha My Dear. Hours later and i am still fng amazed. Where are the studio execs A&R folks and why havent they made this young man famous.
A star in the making watch this guy he has serious potential I would pay to see them all there very good a very nice interpretation of a great song well done guys impressed, you took the original music and added your twist to it but you did not destroy the original track not what i expected but oh so good and surprised the violins really worked well, its almost a country bluegrass version, well what ever its a brilliant interpretation nice one guys
Boy, it's the second, perhaps the third time in a couple of days that I got goosebumps watching your covers (just discovered your channel). I mean it in a good way, that doesn't happen often to me :D
Saw Paul Simon a few years back playing with the Philadelphia Orchestra... it was for their yearly fundraiser ball... Boy In The Bubble sounded AMAZING with the full orchestra.
It's great to talented people playing real music with real instrument's, no autotune, no fancy backing tracks just music. It's all about money now and no real talent.
And 28 people give it a thumbs down. You have to wonder how miserable your life is if you come on UA-cam, find this gem and then give it a thumbs down. If I was a prayin' man....
WOW!! What a great interpretation. Love the banjo, fiddle & voice -- actually I LOVE it all. These are excellent musicians that communicate the fun of the song.
One my favorite Paul Simon songs, Josh. What a great performance by your group. Keep going man, you definitely have the heart and soul for music. Love all your video performances. KUDOS!!!!
Came back to this song after awhile. Josh, you need to keep singing lead. You are a fantastic singer. I love the work with all the other singers, they are great talents, but you just carried the song here
I was that lucky 80s girl who had the privilege of seeing Paul Simon in LA with his Call Me Al tour... couldnt tell you who the African group was that sang backup. Wish i did. I still see the today on stage on each side on Paul where these 6 foot plus singers. Made him look like a young kid...AND speaking of young kid well, this young man Josh has given me hours of entertainment. Love him! Ive always thought he must have some great parents with wonderful taste and influence. Love it!!
Such a great song & such a great performance. I hope you had as much fun performing this as I had watching & listening to it. Art, whether music or my kind of art was meant to be fun! And dang it, you looked like you were having a blast!!!!
Great arrangement and love the adaptation of instruments which makes the song feel fresh, exciting and different whilst still keeping the soul and essence of the original
Anyone else on a Josh Turner marathon? I'm so addicted to these videos, god damn.
I'm done...I've heard everything he has published to date...and I started listening to him 2 weeks ago, only 10 days of true listening
Ditto
I'm in a "JT marathon" every day
me too
me three
One day, many of us will be able to say .. "I watched Josh Turner on UA-cam before everybody knew who he was."
I thought the exact same thing, one of the most talented musicians on UA-cam.
Ditto on your Ditto, Gage Wiggins !
a1scooter1 First saw Josh while searching Leo Kottke in 2008.
Tom Keane I'd have to check, but it was a few years ago for me too. Not as early as 2008 though. I've actually got friends in the music business here in Nashville that I've turned Josh's videos onto. I can't believe they haven't snagged him up. It's their loss.
a1scooter1 Exactly my thoughts.
Notice how he directs and arranges the whole performance? He is so friggin talented.
Absolutely Fabulous. Stay away from the drink
Josh has the amazing natural ability to sound like every artist he plays, without sounding like an imitation. This song is great, I wish they jammed it longer.
With all that natural ability, I'm certain that Josh has never practiced or worked on developing his skills.
Every Josh Turner video has a new cast of wonderful young musicians adding to his web of magic and joy.
I'm just smiling a lot.
Phrasing is an art in itself and Josh has it mastered..
gon?
Wow, there are only two microphones. No effects just talent
I was looking for another JOSH TURNER and found him instead ! So much better!! He in turn led me to Reina Del Cid !! Going to see Josh, Carson , Reina Del Cid and Toni Lindgren in Albuquerque this Saturday night !!!
I bet that was a great show indeed.
"She said, 'honey, take me dancing', but they ended up sleeping in a doorway'
One of Paul Simon's best lines!
Yep! It’s amazing how snippets (like that) can summarize or distill the greatness of a particular artist ... in any medium.
My favorite Paul Simon line: I've been slandered, libeled, I heard words I never heard in the bible.
Don’t remember ever seeing anyone having this much fun playing music. It’s heartwarming! I’m hooked.
Sir, a very respectable version. I think even Paul would be impressed by this.
+James Bibow -- Josh took an African song with New York City lyrics and performed it in blue grass style! I'm impressed. I saw the title, and thought to myself "that takes some balls to pull that one off"
Wonder if Paul has seen any of Josh's exceptional covers of his work
HOW DO YOU DO THE THING SO GOOD
oh my you watch josh turner thats awesome. I love your videos
Haley Blais
...that's what she said.
...sorry.
Its 2020 why haven't we heard more of this guy. Don't understand why there is so much crap out there when there is music of this quality hidden away.
Because “oo quirky rap”
So true
Ron Dunstone, better late than never :)
Yeah - Anyone know what happened to this phenominal young man?
@@kristieroybal4888 he is still going strong. Look up The Other Favorites.

I agree! ☺

Mike Jeter exactly!
Can't agree more!
I am forever amazed when you post work you did so many years ago. The depth and breadth of your work belies your age. Which reveals gifted talent.

How the hell did I miss this one - it's just amazing, it's just amazing, it's just amazing, and at the risk of repeating myself, it's just amazing,

Where have I been!??!.. I'm 70 years old and a music file. I know talent and great sound. Love these kids..artists!

ME too. I’m 72 and I remember thinking how wonderful that these young people are doing thes old songs- I wa listening to him do Folsom prison Blues
Every time I see you play it brings a smile to my face, not just because of how amazing it sounds, but also because of how much everybody gets into and has fun. I think that's what playing music with your friends is about.
I find myself liking Josh's covers of songs better than the originals
Been thinking that all freakin day man haha
I thought no one would do that. Josh is scary good!!!!
No ways on earth ever that this track is better than the original.
The dudes got talent for sure.. but it’s lacking something for me, either experience or soul
I realise this thread’s 2 years’ old, but, if you haven’t already, check out his new album - all uploaded to UA-cam in the past day or so. His song writing has, in my opinion at least, come a LONG way.
The sheer youthful exuberance on display made me smile so hard my dentures fell out of my old ass mouth. Great job everyone!!!
How does the real talent on UA-cam go unnoticed?!
Your fans may be few, but we're real bud. Keep on keeping on.
The mass audiences are attracted to flash and spectacle at the expense of overlooking more subtle and genuine talent. [ sigh! ]
consider yourself blessed for knowing about this guy!!
I love this rendition of a great, complex and lovely song. And I love how Josh shares the stage with his fellow musicians, rather than dominating it. He is a real talent and draws out lovely sounds from everyone.
This makes the sun shining on a rainy day. Love it!
So talented, sheltered at home 2020, love this
What a fantastic cover of Paul Simon's "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes". Josh covers some great PS stuff, I am a big fan of both.
Awesome--I'd pay to see a show like this.
Every spring Savannah has this show in the Savannah Music Festival... it starts in the last week of March and continues until mid-April. Come on down (or up, or over...)
Judy Williams, sounds wonderful; though I'd always pictured Josh as a Yank. Hope to attend next year.

How can you not like this? Do you think these young people spend their free time smoking blunts and playing x-box?

Liam O'Connell Yes his voice is like that, but he can sing anything. And playin, Forgettaboutit! I am so so amazed by all the talent
