As a DM one of my favorite things as a player is to receive something tangible (sticky note, penny painted gold, etc.). Something my first DM did and it just stuck. So as an introduction to introduce our regular group to go along with this campaign I went on to a business card making company website and on one side uploaded the ticket image and on the back used the little poem in chapter 1 using the lost things hook. I told each of my would be players, "You are invited to the Witchlight Carnival and someone has already brought your first ticket." These cards will also be used as the actual tickets for punching in chapter one. Best money spent.
That's cool. I like the idea of just copying it out myself with markers or texta and photocopying on hard cardstock. But yeah both ways work well and totally up to the individual!
I just got this as my first time attempt of DM-ing since it feels really RP heavy and a lot of interactions. (Plus, I saw an image if a Bullywug Knight and new I needed this book if for no other reason than to have it in my life) Thank you for the Attraction/ Location Breakdown!
First DnD campaign I ever played, it was really fun and wholesome adventure! Just finished the campaign today and looking through spoilers now to see what we missed =)
Found this dude's channel like a week ago, he goes into pretty thorough detail with waterdeep dragon heist, was a huge help. Looking forward to running witchlight, his videos are a huge help.
About to start this as a solo campaign for my gf THANK YOU so much information in this playlist this is my first time dming a ore written campaign this is the best possible tool imaginable subscribed!
I'm prepping to run this soon qnd these videos are a great help. I'm debating about making the players pay or barter their way in rather than using the prepaid tickets. I like the barters that are suggested in the book but might make up some of my own
I think I'm not exactly the best DM. Seems like Carnaval alone will take my current group at least two more sessions because.... Well... They split up immediately, then split up again. And they walk about, suspecting everything wants to kill them. Which well... Not my fault they keep falling every roll. I'm actively trying to not kill them
This has been super helpful for me -- I'm a relatively new DM and I've only led several one-shots so far. I really want to do a longer campaign and have been debating about this one. This video made the world seem so delightful (and managable) and I think I'm going to run this one!
@27:13 On the Mystery Mine, Great video! I am currently running the adventure and wanted to point out, the exhaustion feature here works the same way as being "Defeated" by the shadow minions. Like it real-life, the overwhelming stimulation can lead to a sensational 'overload' and cause a blackout. So when the ride ends, they wake -up like Kevin Heart after a Magic Mountain rollercoaster ride. No deaths on-site, very bad for business and insurance already isn't cheap! :D Thank you for these rad videos, they are timeless
I have only ever dmed a rushed version of dragon heist before and due to my love of the fey I impulsively ordered the platinum edition of this. Fingers crossed!
What I think is great is Nikolas Midnight has the bartering system up for the tickets. I like to play it as thats a new aspect put in motion by mister witch and mister light to try and thwart the hags from getting their own pacts with people who sneak in to the carnival. This allowance of letting the poorer patrons haggle leads for fewer people trying to get in illegally. Now as I said "new aspect" I like to put it there as it wasn't around when the players were caught as children. This shows how mister witch and mister light feel about the hags retrieving things, and that they are putting things into effect to stop it, which could be a good communication point into persuading them to open the portal to Prismeer. As an aside I just want to tell you that I love your stuff, every video has great detail and good changes that I think alot of videos miss the mark on. The point of being a DM is to make your mark on the campaign to give it that individuality to make it a different adventure than they would get from another DM. Keep up the good work!
I noticed a similar thing with the river. We played through the "Lost Things" prologue and it has the PCs just run through some shrubs into the carnival. I had to reason that because of kids just like the PCs sneaking in they had to later add the river.
I am really excited to run this one in the upcoming months! I am planning to use the Lost Things session zero material, and you just gave me the idea of letting the players explore some of the main attractions as children, instead of confining them to a corner of the carnival.
I started following your video guides on CoS to help myself during the campaign and now that I'm right at the end of that story I was thinking about starting this module and look what a nice surprise you gave me. I really appreciate the work you do and your videos :)
@@NoFunAllowed just curious - where are all the little blocks of text along the side- are those available under your Patreon? Seems like a great way to just focus on the big items without having to scroll through page after page and slowing things down.
Okay I'm not going to watch because I'm not sure if I'm DMing it yet and I have yet to read it (waiting on my Beadle & Grimm box!)... ...but I had to click the video anyway just to thank you for doing it! I loved your ToA videos and I'm so excited that you're doing this for several campaigns. It really helps me out a lot. I can't really visualize things in my head but having you explain stuff/offer insight after I've read the book makes such a big difference in my understanding of the content. Thank you!

Well, as I will be DM-ing this in my native language, I gotta admit - there's a lot of translating rhymes and riddles here xD

thank you and no problem! this is a really fun adventure and a great way to kick off your DMing career!

haha theres a few things each group misses im sure!
I have to say, these acronyms for modules are getting longer and longer. Great video!
Haha thank you! And give us three word books!
This is going to be the first campaign I ever run, thank you so much for all the wonderful advice!
Awesome stuff and thank you!

haha they shouldnt have to worry about dying in the carnival!

time is my worst enemy in d&d, this is really gonna be a challenge for me to keep track of it. the ten minute thing will help a lot!
haha heck yeah! time is an enemy to us all!
I added a PvP arena to the Big Top extravaganza... winners raise the mood, and get prizes. Multiple wins enters the player in the pool for Monarch...
First! Been waiting for this video. Great work as always!
Thank you so much!
Honestly, I plan to just give those cantrips to whoever takes the Witchlight Hand background. It's not gonna break the game.
haha for sure, i gave all my players a free Magic Initiat feat to kick off this campaign!
1:08 I feel lied to and deceived by the name of this channel

this is just from getting the adventure on roll20!
I hope my players try to help the mime get his fish waifu
heres hoping haha!
I would love to use physical props, but we're playing virtually, so that limits things a bit.
for sure, but theres still plenty of virtual props!
@@NoFunAllowed Oh, definitely. I've got a bunch of handouts in Roll20.
I plan to make a schedule of all performances at the big top ;)
I have seven players, perfect for the race
haha now thats a clown fiesta!
What's the online tool you're using here?
this is Roll20!
@@NoFunAllowed Ah, ok thanks. I don't use that. I'm sure there are other options, especially a 'fillable' tracker.

I just read chapter 1 and your guides really help me keep all of the information and how the pieces relate in context. Super helpful!! 👍🏻🎲🍿🎡🧚🎠🦄🔮
