I completely missed credits for two of the size charts, so here they are: Achillobator size chart: PaleoNeolithic Velociraptor size chart: Matt Martyniuk
since Velociraptors fame gave more attention to other Dromaeosaurs I would love to see more groups of Prehistoric creatures. personally, I would love to see the extent insect order Palaeodictyoptera get some recognition.
Im not sure but i think also one of the reason why velociraptor was kept for the name is also because apparently it sounded more cool and dramatic then deinonychus but tbh i think they dint wanted to change the name because the author was already far maybe in his progress and maybe dint wanted to modify the name to deinonychus ? who knows
Jurassic park Velociraptors: Giant, pack-hunting, Utahraptor-sized death machines with reptile skin. Real Velociraptors: fluffy lil' guys with long snoots.
If I remember correctly, Achillobator was just recently discovered while Crichton was writing the book. His source (I forget the name of the specific book) just mentioned it as a possibly a large Velociraptor species which makes sense considering this would have been the mid to late 80s doing his research on Velociraptor, which itself wasn't as widely looked at in the West until 1991 anyway. So I just assumed they were always literally Achillobator and either that's how it's classified in their world (Alternate Taxonomy) or it's the name they are PATENTED under, and therefore cannot change the name in universe
I believe you’re right. Paul’s description of the toe claw was just that, a description. I believe Achillobator hadn’t been described yet. So Crichton mainly used it as a basis for the size
I can’t believe I spaced the credits. But the Velociraptor size chart is done by Matt Martyniuk. And the Achillobator by PaleoNeolithic Both can be found on google by searching “velociraptor size” Or “achillobator size” The Mario Lanzas Dromeosaurid charts can be found on his socials (Instagram or facebook)
In lore, it was stated that the velociraptors were genetically modified to look this way, so I think the more accurate velociraptors is what they really looked like in the cannon
The first scene of the first movie presents an excavation of velociraptors (as described by the paleontologist responsible) with characteristics identical to what was seen in the park. Canonically, without retrofitting the story, the creatures were identical (at least in appearance) to extinct animals.
thing is... utajraptor is actually MUCH bigger, even than a jp raptor. deinochyus though comparatively small could actually get to a decent 4 ft tall in some specimens.
Deinonychus is also much heavier than this video makes it out to have been, being as big as a large male leopard and around 5x as heavy as Velociraptor. That’s not “just a little larger”. That’s large enough that a single Deinonychus would easily kill any unarmed humans.
Yeah I think Achillobator fits the best, it's the same size and shape and it also lived in Mongolia. I think that if any dinosaur deserves to be in Velociraptor genus, that's Achillobator.
Utahraptor is NOT the closest you can get to the JP raptors, because it’s actually MUCH larger than they are (as in, over three times as heavy!). The JP raptors look much larger than they are because their legs are too long compared to the physical proportions of most actual dromaeosaurs, making them taller than they should be. People thus end up assuming Utahraptor are the same size as the JP raptors because they both stand around 6ft tall, even though Utahraptor is actually a far longer and heavier animal. Also, Deinonychus is NOT “a little bit” larger than Velociraptor. *It weighs five times as much as Velociraptor*. It’s the size of a large male leopard.
I appreciate the comment! Utahraptor is often the best comparison when mentioning the Velociraptors size. (When looking at JP Velociraptor paleoart, Utahraptor is often the basis of the size.) that’s taking in account the overall size of both animals, including the height. Because in reality, there aren’t a lot of real life dromeosaurs that compare in size. This works to give the audience something they’re familiar with and so giving them something compare it to. And the deinonychus is both 1) a generalization of the two when looked at on a size chart. And 2) mainly a reference to the comments I often get on my TikTok page reguarding their size. You’ll notice the way I said it was in the form of someone arguing with me. Mainly because I get PLENTY individuals who are ready to argue on the various TikTok videos I make on this subject. The point is that Deinonychus isn’t as big as the Jurassic Park Velociraptors, that’s mostly a transition to the reasoning of why their size was increased. Have a good one!

Smaller than utahraptor
I'd say a taller Deinonychus. because Utahraptor is too big and too long

No, esta mas que confirmado que lo que utilizo Crichton como base fue deinonychus, y esto es algo mas que comprobado.
Underrated channel
amazing info, keep up the good work😎👍
Paleontologists: Why are your Velociraptors not accurate
Jurassic Park: Uhhhhhh... Siri what is accuracy.
Nice video :)

I always thought it was funny in retrospect that the JP velociraptor is their first actual dinosaur with lips.

@@bkjeong4302 exactly.
When I was 8 I was shocked to see the scary Velociraptors were about the same size as a Chicken lol

Why don’t you call it by it’s full name velociraptor mongoliensis
