EXTREME DECLUTTER || Declutter the Crawl Space Part 1 || MINIMALIST
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- Crawl under the house with me as I spend a few days clearing out a section. This is going to take months. Simple living has brought me to under the house and in our attic and shed. Now that we have a simple living life going on in the house, we are working on the last rooms that gather stuff. I show you the full before of the crawl space and into the attic and shed. The after in this video shows a space cleared out in the crawl space. Still a while to go on this declutter.
This is an extreme declutter because of the volume of things to sift through and to donate or trash. Plus, the amount of time this is going to take us is longer than one video could share!

I love what you said "sentimental or seasonal, that's all that should be in here." So good!!! ♥️👍💪
The Minimal Mom It’s easier now to declutter the crawl space! I loved your video on sentimental items, Dawn. I saved it to watch again once we get to that category.
That aha moment was awesome!!!
Yes! Also Erica acknowledges the time to tackle sentimental items will come, when she’s ready. That shows remarkable self awareness and insight into the goal and purpose of decluttering.
Amen Dawn! 💜
When I saw your attic, shed, and crawl space, I thought oh my! Then I realized how many more of your videos I would have to watch in the future and I thought OH YEAH!!! Luv it when you give your thought processes on what you keep versus what you donate.
I thought the same....she will have quite a few more videos....YAY!
Elizabeth Langheim I might need to start decluttering my friends homes! 🤣
I love the fact that through all of your minimizing your items you were able to shop your home as well. That was truly amazing. Finding pieces you needed to add the finishing touches. I know it's going to look amazing. I am actually excited to see how it all turned out.
I also must say, that I truly love your humor. Whenever I want a giggle or feel good moment, I watch your videos. You and your family are terrific!
Kate check back on Monday! I love how the living room is now and I only spent money on plants!
Watching someone else declutter, and listening to their thought process on what they are doing, is very helpful to me. Thank you!
Dori Ann more to come! My hubby will be in the future ones too because this is his junk. I mean stuff
It’s helpful to me watching these while I declutter! For Real it motivates me!
you're so right, it helps me so much also.
"Sentimental or seasonal" was a brilliant breakthrough moment!
I second this, very wise and well said.
OMG ! she even found a beeyootiful little girl in that crawlspace!!
The first 5 seconds made my morning....
"Ah I'm stuck in a box...."
Lol....
Thank you for your videos!!
Michelle S it was a box of blankets! 😂
Even better!!!
😂😂😂
Your light bulb moment “The only things that should go in here should be sentimental or seasonal!” Maid my day! ❤️❤️❤️ Your doing awesome with your journey and I can’t wait to see how your living room turns out! It’s even more fun to refresh a space for free🙌🏻
“Not bothersome at all to get rid of stuff anymore”. Oh, my, I so wish I could say this ! Every item is still a challenge for me. It gets easier, right? Right?!?
Great work to go in with purpose and find things you can put to use. My preference in our home is for no deep storage, only keeping what i can access and put to use in 30 seconds to 1 minute. Sentimental gets displayed, used or is kept on a shelf. Christmas decorations and the tree are stored in our hope chest in the living room. I do have to re-tidy the garage a couple times a year but we park there every day (life with kids, not everything gets put away we’ll after use), but it’s not a big effort.
You are doing so well! As you come across more plastic bins, maybe you could transfer stuff out of cardboard boxes since bins would offer more protection over time and make items more visible and accessible.
100% agree about clear bins being helpful since you see everything. They are especially helpful managing the pantry.
Erica, you may have already thought of this, but that large lovely picture you unearthed might fit perfectly on the wall where your Kallax used to be. Also, you are doing an amazing job on your home. 💕
Yes! I was thinking the same thing about that large painting!
Amy Stiles I was thinking that too!!!!!!
Jen L. Me too!!
Great minds think alike! 😄
I was thinking that too!!! Lol should have read down further in the comments!
I never comment on videos but I just have to say I really admire how you identified this issue in your life and then ACTUALLY did something about it. Not just part of the way- all the way. The same thing happened to me a few years ago and I have never looked back. I am loving your videos on this journey because it inspires me to maintain what I’ve done and reminds me why I did it- you are being honest and real and I just really appreciate it! 😊
Molly Broomer I look back still because I still feel in “it.” I use the word minimalist but I am minimalish. Someday I will be comfortable titling myself a minimalist.
I think we are all still in process- I definitely am! You’re doing an amazing job.
Im amazed you moved all this stuff....then you mentioned pregnant or nursing for 5 years. That will keep anyone busy, and not able to purge items! You're doing great getting thru the crawl space! Out all gaming stuff, in one place, I the family room, until you find all the components. Then declutter that, as a separate topic. Sporting goods to the garage. Noone will go to a crawl space for a tennis racket! Group like items ... Interim step, but it helps many of us!
What sweet little rescuers!
I've started donating anything from my past that I stored that remind me of a life I used to live. Lamps and blankets from living with an ex, organization boxes from an old apartment, clothes from an old job. I want no memory of those things and I only want to move forward so I purge.
That's a great way of helping to make decisions on getting rid of things!
I love the crayons on the wall, truly a sign of a good mom also a good homemaker! I often have to remind myself that one day I will have clean walls and. . . A quiet, empty home. ❤ love what you got, when you got it! 😊
Emily Hercamp I needed that reminder!!
those bins would sell well on fb marketplace or kijiji whatever u have !! Every $$$$$ helps with ur debt repayment!!!
You have such a genuine, honest and positive personality. That's just beautiful ❤️.
Congratulations on all your progress, Erica!---I particularly like what you said about the "cozy minimalist" and "cold minimalist". I agree completely. I want a pared-down, organized, peaceful, uncluttered living space but I don't like those minimalist spaces that are black, white and gray; have nothing on the floor for comfort or to absorb sound; places that echo and that make me want to put on a sweater by just looking at them---and hearing them. I don't understand the appeal of living in that kind of environment. I want to live in a living space not an impersonal and nearly empty space.
Thank you, someone who feels the same way I do about this.
Exactly, it should look like a home that's loved not a house that's staged for sale
There actually are quite a few people who disapprove of minimalism simply because they think a minimalist home absolutely HAS to look cold and empty - which they compare with a mental ward. I'm baffled at how these people would get to this conclusion and at the malice they regard minimalists with.
Some also think minimalism is meant to make people used to being poor (??).
I just don’t call in minimalism and enjoy having stuff that I truly do want to have. So I have loads of books and candles and blankets and nice plates and cups and games... I could get rid of more and I slowly am but I am definitely keeping what I use and some things I don’t use and just enjoy.
@@glockenrein It sounds like you have an arrangement or balance that works for you. I have a lot of books and very little space. Other than books I own very little. I've given away some books without having read them but my intention is to read books then donate (most of) them and have more books going out than are coming in. It will take a long time to have the reduction I want and I may donate more books before even reading them.
THAT FOREST PAINTING 😍😍😍 i hope you kept that sooo serene
EmmaAppleBerry I am!! 😍
Did big bro call little bro “muscle man”?🥰🥰🥰so sweet!
Laura Everist he did! I thought it was so cute Laura.
Your kiddos and dog are just adorable!! You also crack me up!! Lol!! "I went through a blue frame phase." Isn't it funny how we totally do have phases?! You coming to realizations about things totally helps me, too.
What I love most about your channel depicting your personal journey from messy to minimalism, is you are currently in process. When I view others, who are several years out and have been living with less....all I see is neat and tidy and wonder if they were ever as boggled down with "stuff" as I am. You, on the other hand, show the the overwhelming clutter and share your thoughts on what to keep, donate, or trash. It helps me believe I can do this as well....tackle one area at time and feel the joy knowing with persistence I will also get back the home buried underneath it all. Thank you for being so transparent with those of us living with the shame.
I am with you on making the home cozy. I don’t want all the stuff but still want enough to make it a cozy and inviting space.
Sandra Jiggins I’m excited to show Monday’s video! I adore my living room now.
I love this woman, she's clever, funny and she has a lovely voice...Many others are squeaky and annoying with way to much talking...Erica is perfect.. i wish i lived next door
Loved how all the family helped out, even your dog. Your living room will be beautiful.
When the youngest, Jack, helped "save mommy" I thought I was going to cry. Then he reminded his mom that Ranger was being rescued, too, which made me crack up laughing. What a delightful family!
Katie, I love Erica, she is such a hoot!!!
You go girl! Way to repurpose, donate, or sell!
You are amazing and so brave! I never would have found the courage to face any spiders in that crawlspace, let alone tried to FILM in there! I really like your style of taking us through your whole process as you're figuring things out. It's so personal and real. Major kudos!
She kept saying she was scared of spiders, and all I could think of was the snake in our crawlspace. Eeek!
@@katieevans6614 Snakes don't bother me so much. Like, I wouldn't want to come across one in a confined space, but I could deal with it. If I even suspect spiders might be in an area like that, I'd never even go down there. I'd have to send someone else...then burn everything that came out of there, lol!
Katie Evans no no no no no. Now I’m scared.
think about it . the dog probably scared them away
I like the idea of cozy minimalism. I’ve never really considered myself a minimalist because the decor seems cold, even though I love to declutter and to simplify my house.
Our Blessed Life yes! That’s one thing I do t like about minimalism.
I love your brutal honesty with dealing with your “stuff”
I kept looking around for a bin that would replace that broken fridge drawer. hahaha :)
Through my declutter process I have not been able to just donate empty bins :) I don't want to get to another area of the house and realize I could have used a bin to organize that part of the house. So I am impressed every time I see you donate bins. I will donate what is left when I am done.
Using what I have has been a priority for me this go around ( I have attempted to declutter before) ... I was a huge handbag girl and when I went through my handbags a few weeks ago I was really hard on myself and when I was finished I had this huge bag and several small clutches that I just wasn't ready to part with but didn't want to put them back in my closet (where I store my bags) .
I do not have a desk area in my home so I decided to use the large bag and all the clutches and made an "office in a bag" ( idea from flylady) and I keep it in the bottom of the coat closet in the LR. It makes me happy that I could find a way to use them and now all my office supplies that I kept is in one place!
You are doing a great job Erica and I know I have said this before but .... I love your channel! Hope the rest of your week is blessed.
Laura Lea Frederick ya I might find one in those boxes!!!
Wow, you made quite a dent in that storage space! Love that you were able to either use or donate so much of it. And you braved the potential spiders! Well done you. 😊 *hugs*
I am absolutely loving watching your decluttering videos. You are really relatable and fun, and watching the stuff go is super satisfying. I also love the cozy minimalist home book (found it at my library) and the Minimal Mom.
Thank you for sharing. I'm on my own journey for decluttering and becoming a minimalist. It is an adventure!
i love this, but girl what a space to starage things. a big shed a big crawl space and attic. i love you findings and you think about what you want in the crawl space. if you speak to us, you find what you want. And yes i want to be a cozy minimalist. have a great day and hope you see you soon in your adventure. lots of love Ellen
I love your kids! Stare, think, stare some more... “come on let’s save them.”
I have a decluttering business, and I recommend that people watch your videos, because you present all the sides, and share the failures as well as the successes, and you are doing it all while living a life. You are an inspiration, and I love that you don't hide the battles and imperfections. Rock on, Lady!
I love the cozy minimalist book!!! She has great tips and advice which made me realize that my family is cozy minimalist!
Had trouble breathing while watching this video. Seeing you inside the crawl space with dust swirling around made me claustrophobic. So glad you survived.
Your epiphany moment was everything :) glad you are getting there. Well done
This is what happens when you move and have too much stuff!!!
I AGREE my goodness my life right there!!!
"Save mommy" "and ranger" awe your little boy was so small how cute
Very inspiring! Can't wait to see more. I really liked your Ah Ha moment - seasonal and sentimental only 🎈
It's hard to get rid of sentimental stuff--I have to agree.
Looks very comfy cozy, and I didn't hear a single scream of SPIDER !!!!
I couldn’t do the crawl space. I’m too claustrophobic for that. AND the spiders? You are my hero.
Our Blessed Life I didn’t find any yet.
Our Blessed Life I’m saying!
I kept thinking it looked like it was snowing and then realized it was light on little dust particles. I would be sneezing for days. I do every time I dust in my house.
Becky Smith me too!
Loved this video! Totally motivational! I thank the universe that we don't have an attic or basement in our Florida ranch because they would be filled.
Argh I'm stuck in a box! Love it!
Super nice video. Your kids are so happy, sweet and helpful. Good mama❣❣
the courage to even start decluttering those spaces.... so inspiring! Thanks for the motivation that you give to others.
The painting with the trees is absolutely gorgeous. I hope it finds a spot in the living room or somewhere else!
It's amazing the things that we store. But I love that you were able to shop your crawl space for your living room!
Always looking forward to your videos and your great humour! I am also on the journey to a clutterfree home because I will move to the other end of Germany this year and AM DETERMINED NOT TO PAY FOR MOVING SEVERAL TONS OF CLUTTER... Will start on my basement aka the chamber of horrors tomorrow after work. Perhaps I should send you a before and after video 😂😂😂 You are doing so great - keep up with it!!!
Amazing! I love how you push through and find the time and energy to keep making progress. When you find things you didn't even know you have (we've all been there!) you now take it with a smile and move on. Less and less guilt about the spending? Truly inspiring. Thank you so much Erica!
Love from Montreal ❤️
Sarah
I'm stuck in a box..... too funny!
You shopped your home in the best way I've seen. All sorts of lovely goodies to add a little sparkle and beautiful objects being used and useful - so very satisfying!
Love your mantra!
Loving your decluttering videos! They are always so relatable and humorous!
We are a military family and it's unbelieveable how much stuff you can acquire when moving a lot. There are always boxes of curtains that you keep that might fit in future houses, furniture that fits on some places and not others....even boxes of straight up garbage that the movers pack up! One moving company packed up our house plants! They were loads of fun to unpack. 🙄 We are going through the same thing and trying to weed through boxes from past houses. It feels never ending but I know we've come a long way.Your videos are helping me stay on track so thank you!
Erica.... You. Are. My. Spirit. Animal..... 😳😳😳😳 The endurance you have is contagious. Things are happening in my home today. 🙌🏻
You are so lovely and your children are so kind. I feel claustrophobic just watching you crawl around under your home. I could watch you all day, you brighten my day. God bless.💖💖💖
I love watching you…. hope you can vlog more, cos I have so much fun….
I have no idea why but decluttering videos make me happy
ciao from Italy
f r seeing other people sort is therapy!
@@EricaLucasLoves no I'm just baaaaaad 😎
Great video. I keep saying, “that used to be me.” Had a big house full of stuff. Kids are now grown, and I’m in a lovely studio apartment now. Downsized big time. Great job. Love your videos , Erica. ❤️
When I think back to your first home tour and now, it's just such an inspiring difference! You should do a reacting to your old content next milestone/ channel anniversary you have- it's always good to remind ourselves how far we've come in our journeys!
Your one of my favourite you tubers, a truly honest and funny individual...I’d be first in the line to be your bestie...love,love,love your channel...you go girl...x
Linda Sullivan besties it is!
Amazing job Erica, I love how your dog hangs with you.
Just popping in to say that I am loving your minimalism series and that I like how warm and friendly you are to your viewers. I always feel like I've been welcomed into a friend's home and I'm sitting there with you, drinking coffee while watching you work! LOL You are so honest and raw with us - and I love that. Thanks for taking the time to record and share your journey. xxxx
Leah and Darren Hazelton how kind! Thank you for that! You made me smile.
Thank you for showing us this ! Gives me more power to keep going !!!
KEEP THE ROCKBAND! Make great memories as the kids get older. Mine are grown up and in their own homes and we STILL play when we get together!! AND I’m reading Cozy Minimalist too!! I love to watch you go through your stuff just like I do. ❤️
Maybe with all those beds in the shed you could rent it out for an Air B & B. Just put a bag of donuts outside the shed every morning.
poodlegirl55 I just laughed so hard!!! You always comment the best stuff!
If she puts a bag of donuts outside the shed in the morning, I am SOOO gonna stay there!
@@kirstenrissling879 She might be in business! Shh..don't tell the authorities.
You are such a lovely person! Thank you for all the videos and lots of love from Germany
OMG! Such a treat on this stressful day.
I normally dont watch decluttering videos, but you were cracking me up. I like your style 😄
Mommy on the Move thanks!
You really making progress in your crawl space!
Sentimental or seasonal. Have to pause to go to work. Going to let this roll around in my brain all day. Your videos are getting better and better. Have an awesome productive day.
you are just so funny! I love watching you! This was incredibly inspiring for me because my home is pretty minimal but my garage is like a shopping mall of trash!
You're hysterical and so enjoyable to watch. Good work and thanks for sharing how much easier it gets as you do more decluttering!
I love watching your journey through this. I wouldn’t be able to crawl in there, you’re definitely not afraid of small spaces. 😊
That is the coolest crawl space! Ours you have to entry from outside, a small doorway that only a small person can crawl into! You have a treasure trove of stuff! Love that you are donating so much! What a blessing to others! Keep up the great work and making these motivating videos!
I could not imagine having all of that stuff in storage all around my home, it stresses me out just thinking about it. I’m happy for you that you’re able to declutter and I love watching.
Loved every second of your video! It feels real, like you truly know what it means to hang on to stuff. Looking forward to your video about cozy minimalism. And I absolutely love your personality. Greetings from Germany 💛🖒
Domi Nique thanks!!
That crawl space made my chest tight just watching you in it!! You're doing so well! Talk about inspiration!
Thanks, Erica. Your journey is so encouraging.
You found treasures!!! Good for you 👏
OMG 😱 you had soooo many things but it is amazing how much progress you have made up till now! Blessings dear Erica 🙏🏻🥰🌹
Love your videos, they so real and every time I see them I get the energy to declutter. Thank you for sharing.
Cosy minimalism. That's my thing. You are so brave. And those kids, such sweeties.
Amazing progress! Great content, as always ♥️
Erica, you are brave! Facing all this clutter amazes me! Keep going!
I love how your dog always makes his way into every video lol Such a big helper.
We use to have so many dishes. I inherited my grandmother’s dish set that was her wedding gift. We never used it. We finally got rid of all of our other dishes and use my grandmother’s set now. It wasn’t “us” per say but it wasn’t something I was willing to part with. Had to get over worry about breaking any of the pieces and just enjoying that it’s something very special that has become “us”. It becomes so invigorating and powerful when you make use of sentimental items!
This video made me so happy. You found true treasures in the clutter!
That picture of the trees would be lovely in the same spot you had that huge book shelf. Good job! Sell it all, pay off debt, enjoy LIFE not stuff!
Greeting Erica from Australia 🇦🇺! I just love watching all your videos and you have come and done so much now! I love how you have added old items into your living space as decor, myself as minimalist I love to have beautiful things surrounding me as I find it comforting and calming to look at, decluttering for me is things that I don’t have purpose any longer for, their is no right and wrong it’s all in the eyes of the beholder! 👌🏽x
Your living room looks lovely!!!!sometimes people declutter to the point of everything being cold and impersonal.
Wow! SO amazed at your hard work. These are the HARDEST places to declutter.
I think that this was one of my favorites! I loved seeing you plan to integrate what you found to improve your home. I also think it helps to hear your thought process on what to keep and what to donate. The dialogue about your doggie's sleep area and the subsequent comment about your husband cracked me up!!! That was an unexpected surprise!!!
2 campbell I know 3 people that “sleep pee” but are not facing a toilet but think they are. :)
You are amazing, I’ve never seen so many baskets & containers in my life. Congratulations on your progress, I love your videos 🦋
Looks cozy and minimal at the same time! Thanks for sharing with us!
So very proud of you! Keep up the great work and so will I. You have given me so much encouragement!...
I would go CRAZY with a dog that size walking everywhere I went, especially when decluttering, I admire your patience with him. There’s a reason I don’t have pets 😄 Great video, again 👍
the dog is the best!
