this is an incredible tutorial and you should be really proud of yourself for being able to teach this well, especially over video! i watched separate tutorials in the past on so many things in this video and i can't believe that you would go over them and in 10 seconds i would understand the concepts better than the things i watched whole entire videos on. boxers came out great, thanks again!
Just made these as my first sewing project (ever) on a new machine, made tons of mistakes, but they still turned out really well, and comfortable to boot. They may fall to pieces in the washer because of all the times I forgot to back stitch, but I really enjoyed making them, and most important, learned in the process. Thank you for a well done video.

What a clear picture, great sound, and step by step instructions. I have 3 grown sons and they will all be getting custom boxers for Christmas. Thank you for your concise tutorial.
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions and pattern, including the fly. I’ve only been sewing for a couple of months and these were very easy to follow and make.
Had to watch it again making another pair of boxers. His first pair I made them from a queen size flat sheet years ago which lasted several years! and now I have to make him few pairs!
My husband is a medium and they seemed to work well for him. You may scale down when you print it out for a small but I wouldn't do it by much. The sizing really comes from the length of the elastic you put in the casing so it should sizing should be pretty flexible. If it's just too long in the crotch length you can just remove some of the measurement from the top of the pattern pieces. Also, you can make a test pair from an old sheet or something and test the fit. good luck!
My husband prefers the "no fly" type...basically making him a pair of shorts. This is a great video! I hope I can find one like this for a pair of shorts! :D
@gladtidings4all The easiest way to do this is to just add to the pattern top. This will lengthen the crotch length. You just have to decide how much and make sure you divide it evenly between the front and back patterns. For example, if you want to add 2", 1" goes to the front patterns and 1" to the back. That way the side seam remains even. Tape tissue paper to the top of the back pattern, draw up 1", cut out on new line. You'll then do the same thing adding 1" to both front patterns.
Excellent excellent excellent! I just made some for my husband and they came out perfect! Im a beginner and your pattern and instructions were easy to follow. I look forward to trying more tutorials

The boxer pattern states the size is for a large. I need to know how to size them for a medium and small. The video is OUTSTANDING and I am anxious to start to sew a pair or two of boxers for myself.
Thanks for the great video. I had some trouble keeping track of right/wrong side in the video. Don't get me wrong, I loved the video, as a man who is learning I loved making boxers. But maybe a printed pattern next time to more easily show wrong/right side? Thanks again, I made my first pair last night and love them, the fit is awesome.
Awesome, I have recently started sewing and am teaching myself. Your vidos have taught me so much . I love how you include every detail that the other vidios I have watched leave out assuming that we all know. You are definetly my go to for all of my sewing questions. Thanks and please keep doing the videos.
I love your tutorials you do such a great job explaining how to use the pattern and how to put it together. I love making my own clothes and my kids clothes it really wonderful when I find videos in such detail. Wonderful job. Can't wait for more videos... I have one question, is there any way you can do patterns on women dresses or simple girls dresses.
Thanks! I will do this but I really love the boxers I already did 2 of them! I made myself one I just closed the front button area no button added! I made them from an old flat thin soft bed sheet and they are so cool and breezy!
I’m so confused because I’m using a print fabric so when I print the pattern how should I place the printed pattern print side up on the printer fabric or put the print down pattern down on the back side of the print fabric. I’m so confused. Can you do another video tutorial explaining this using your printed pattern so I can see how to place each pattern on the printed fabric. I’m so confused. Thanks
You have dotted paper but I have the printed pattern. I need to know how to apply the printed pattern on the pattern print fabric side or the un pattern print fabric. ?
I made this and it came out awesome. I am so proud of how it came out. thank you so much. The only question I have is, how do I make a larger one. How many inches per size do I add? This one didn't fit my husband but fit me baggy and that's how I like them. Where do I go to show you the pic of what I made? Love your videos. Also do you take request on making clothes from patterns? there's one I would love for you to do, that I would love to wear to a wedding we are invited to in May.
Donnales 08 what you can do is measure you husbands waistline and then multiply this number by 1 1/2. That will tell you how big the total waistline should be. Since the pattern is half the front and half the back, you can take your mulitplied number, divide it by 4 and that should be how much to increase on each side seam of the front and back pattern. Unfortunately, we can't take any pattern requests tutorials at this time. If you do choose a pattern and get stuck though, you can use our ask a question feature on our site. I am sorry if someone has already ask you this but, I am trying to make an XL and this will be my first project with the sewing machine, I have printed the patterns should I just add a few centimeters to the patterns? I hope you can answer my question, Thankyou

By the way I bought simplicity pattern # 2741 because it had a pattern for the boxers but was upset because it only had one piece and I only learn from you how to sew your boxers and the instruction sheet didn't have enough info how to cut and and really how to put together. sure, any lightweight cotton, polycotton, or flannel would be fine. If you go to a fabric store, you can look for quilter's cotton find lots of different types of prints to use.
mrs. farooqi You could make a copy of just the fly section and these fly sections would be layered on top of each other so the buttonhole would be on the bottom fly section and therefore remain out of site.
Ok I see that the front pieces are cut out with fabric right side up, but what about the two back pieces? Is the fabric folded right sides together when cutting those?
+Tricia Spaite for the back pattern just have the fabric folded and then pin and cut out once. You should end up with two pieces that are opposite of each other. when you finish your boxers, please post a pic on our f wall :)

how do i get da free pattern

how do you cut a pattern for a custom size?
This pattern is pretty adjustable as is, because the waistline is fitted by the elastic you cut based on your waistline. So the waistline is bigger than it needs to be and is cinched in by the elastic. If this is still too big or too small you can try enlarging (or decrease) the pattern by changing your printing settings. If you just want to do small adjustments like increase or decrease the crotch length you can either lengthen or shorten the area between the hips and the waistline. Or to make the waistline/hipline larger, you can extend out the side seam area more. I would just try to make a muslin with some cheap fabric to test the fit and then make alterations if you need it.

Is this a medium size?
I would say large but the size of the waistline is customized to your own waist so it's sizing is flexible.
Kindly tell its measurements. Length and width
how do we increase the size bigger to xxxl size?
naddums what you can do is draw an outline of the pattern on a larger paper, then slide the pattern increasing the pattern towards the side seam, and redraw the new side seam and blending a new line to the waistline. So you'll be increasing the width. How much do you increase? Measure your waistline and the pattern waistline should be 1 1/2 times that. Take that number and divide by 4. This number should be the amount you increase both the front and back pattern. good luck!
