Spike finds meaning in his undead life! That's the part of the episode that stands out to me LOL. His American accent (which is so funny because the actor, James Marsters, is American) is just too funny.
a helpful reminder of the dangerous secret lurking beneath Sunnydale. Just because the Master is gone doesn't mean there aren't others willing to open the highway to Hell!
Buffy is self-involved. Hear me out. She cant not be. She's forced to be self-involved because no amount of support or "we'll do this together" actually makes her job a group effort. She's doomed to be the one who has to call the shots, make the ultimate sacrifice and always make the hard decisions. Its an incredibly isolating situation that she was forced into as the Slayer. Where i stop agreeing with any character in the show who uses that argument to accuse her is the moment they say it as if its all her. Like shes choosing this instead of it being something thats tragically inescapable.
It's a good thing these demons were courteous enough to wait for The Gentlemen to finish their voice stealing scheme before they tried to end the world. That was nice of them lol.
I was gonna say something similar but I,alas, was no match for you and your clever intended punning! A supernatural "Odd Couple" would make some fine entertainment indeed
5:06-5:12 Naked-limbo guy gets brutally killed by a monster >> Jules laughs, calling "beautiful!" / An evil vampire tries to off himself because he can no longer kill humans >> Jules pouts "aww, poor Spike" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Re: Buffy and Riley. He was spot on about her past, she is traumatized so she's afraid to get into another relationship. But he had no right, he doesn't even know her. Re: Buffy and Spike. Right! It does make you wonder. Why doesn't Buffy just off Spike? Now she's got a reason not to - he's toothless. But up until now? With so many chances? She may not care if he lives or dies but I do appreciate Willow (and even Xander) saving him, it's kinda cute! I think Willow likes Spike and he likes her (as people, I mean). A few episodes ago he gave her the option to be sired instead of just killing her, after all 😁
Is Riley spot on? While Riley doesn't know much about her past (even admitting as much), he does know about Parker. Maybe that's the guy he thinks Buffy is talking about. Riley was making a lot of assumptions, but not quite hitting the target. He's close enough for it to sound good, but the more scrutiny is applied the more holes show up in his argument. Buffy wasn't afraid to get into a relationship with Riley when she thought that he was an "average Joe". Her fear runs deeper than that. As mentioned, she is traumatized. Which requires healing before one enters into a romantic relationship or making any major life decisions for that matter. The insults are also completely out of bounds. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
@@becca1189 Riley was spot on about her past and how it's affecting her present. "You’re not in high school anymore. You can change things.” "This doom and gloom mentality." Buffy's always been like this. Every time something goes wrong in her romantic life she's like "I'm never dating ever again!" Riley was out of line calling her stupid and trying to push her for something she wasn't ready for. But he wasn't wrong because that's exactly what Buffy's like (except for the stupid part). And he knows it's not about Parker, he knows it's related to something (/someone) further back. But that's really not the point. Buffy can't separate personal life from slayer life. The slayer is part of her. She's stuck. Dating an average Joe was, to her, an opportunity for something normal. Realizing that he's not it, yeah, she freaked. She's aware of that, not denying, just won't give him a chance (yet). All she's ever wanted was normal. Anything else is too traumatizing to even try. Yes, it does require healing first, which is why until then I tell Riley to F off. SPOILERS - S6, S7, and the comics: In S7, CWDP, Holden pointed at the same issue with Buffy. She always assumes her (romantic) connections are doomed. So she puts on this defense mechanism of self-sabotage. Except when Riley pointed that out she got defensive. And check out this Riley line: "But mostly I think you want to stay down in that dark place." Again, he was spot on. Spike too pointed that out in Normal Again ("you're addicted to the misery"), he was spot on too. It's always been easier for her to put up that shield than risk getting hurt again. She's not really healed until that session with Holden. We can see how that changes her perspective going forward. It goes all the way up to the future when she starts dating Spike. She shares with Willow that she wanted to break up with him at first because that's her pattern. To run away when she's happy. But then decided not to and give happiness a chance. She ends up having her best relationship to date with Spike. So again, Riley was spot on. His approach was all wrong.
It is annoying how the show is desperate to have Spike in the cast, despite all logic. He did try to rape, murder and vampirize Willow a bare four episodes back…and the moment that chip wears off, he'd do it again. And Buffy, Xander and Giles (who all care about Willow) have no idea how the chip works or how long it will last. (For all we know, the chip needs to be recharged every week.) They do amusing work with Spike here, but destroying the logic of the series can't be a good thing. (I mean, Angel was theoretically a "good" vampire and we see that Buffy is still recovering from all the damage he did to her. Not to mention poor lonely Giles, who hasn't recovered from Jenny's death, even with random bimbo's visit last episode. [When Giles consoles Buffy at the end of 4x06 , you can see that the subject of her Angel-issues still causes him pain, and that was after he was rolling around with Token Diversity girl in 4x01]. So how is keeping Angelus's Prize Pupil as a pet supposed to work, exactly? The purported reason for not killing Spike was that he had "info" on Those Mysterious Commandos. Well, Buffy has a rather better source for THAT, now.)
@@Jessica_Roth (spoilers) As opposed to all the other characters who've raped, SA'd, and murdered? "the moment that chip wears off, he'd do it again" -That's probably true, but not from mid season 5 onward. I agree that it's weird that they didn't kill Spike off then, but it also makes sense for Buffy's character. She has a strong moral compass, she wouldn't kill a defenseless creature (which Giles explains in Something Blue - it wasn't just about the info on the Initiative). Besides, you can make the same claim about Oz, for example. -He's managed to escape his cage before as a werewolf. And what about Anya? Buffy has been giving her the benefit of the doubt, probably for Xander's sake, but one heartbreak and she's back in the fold. She's a ticking bomb. And what about Willow? How do we know she's not gonna lose control of her magic again and end the world? Xander lied about not remembering SAing Buffy, how do we know he wouldn't lie about something so terrible again? We don't. Buffy gives people chances. That's just who she is. She explains to Spike in S7 that the reason he's alive is because she'd seen him change. Maybe it wasn't as obvious to us in S4, but maybe she did believe he's capable of it much earlier? In The I In Team Giles expresses something similar to Spike: "Thinking about your affliction and your newfound discovery that you can fight only demons, it occurs to me that... I realize this is completely against your nature but has it occurred to you that there may be a higher purpose--" And at this point Willow doesn't even find Spike scary anymore, so maybe she believes that Spike could become part of the team? That he could be tamed? That they can become friends? Spike was never like Angelus, or other vampires for that matter. Future episodes prove that he is capable of changing (to a certain limit, of course). While I agree that it's a bit forced, it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. Another option, which may not resonate with non-Spuffy fans, maybe Buffy felt a connection to Spike? Maybe deep down she knew they were meant for each other and that's why wouldn't kill him? Also, Olivia is not a bimbo! I resent that!
Xander: If we don't find what we're looking for, we're facing an apocalypse. Spike: Really? You're not just saying that? LOL. The comedy duo I never knew I needed. And my favorite part: Spike: I say we go out there and kick a little demon ass! Come on! Vampires! GRRR! Nasty! Let's annihilate them. For justice... and for the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right? Let's fight that evil! Let's kill something! OH, COME ON! 😆🤣 So glad Spike found some purpose again.
“Oh, come on!” Seriously, Spike is just blowing up this season, isn’t he? The show really honestly needed the pick up with the humor, the attitude and the really wonderfully fake “Who, me? No suuur.” And it is good you have given up on joy with Buffy. It makes the pain hurt less.
77 pages left in the book of Buffy and we are worried our precious / innocent Juliette is falling for Spike! We must keep tuning in to save our Jules from the dark side.🤗
"Again! Oh, as usual, dear." and "Really! You're not just saying that." are the best lines in the episode. An American actor (James Marsters as Spike) portraying a British character who has to do a phony American accent. It's such a great moment. Being called "stupid" of "self involved" by Riley doesn't have him, or fans, convince me Riley should be convincing Buffy of a relationship. What he said, even in the context, was wrong. Buffy's not acting "stupid" or "self-involved." She has genuine concerns and issues that she definitely needs to deal with before being with somebody romantically. She didn't realize that until she saw him stepping from Joe Normal into her Slayer life. It doesn't matter whether there is truth to what Riley says or not. If she doesn't deal with her issues, things get rushed. No matter the context Riley was being rude and not respecting her. Its sad that neither Riley, nor Willow in previous episodes for pushing them together, respect the fact that she has issues (Willow for knowing what Buffy's been through directly with Faith slaying-wise and Angel and Parker dating-wise, and Riley for the word no). Whether people have issues or not people should be allowed to go at the pace they need to. Buffy getting together with him without dealing with her issues makes Riley more of Buffy's rebound (just like Parker was meant to be). And Riley and Willow have helped put Riley there. If he waited, perhaps her issues may have been delt with (like they almost were before Angel returned from hell at the beginning of S3 with Mr. Platt and Buffy leaving the Claddagh ring in the spot Angel "died") By this episode's end, Riley convinced Buffy to be in a relationship, but can someone get over their issues that fast? My answer is no. And being pushed into thinking yes, even if unintentionally, isn't a good thing.
I actually was curious last night to hear James' normal accent so I found about 30 seconds of him talking (I wasn't game to watch more due to potential spoilers, if any) and it was so different to Spike! I love it!
Agree, even in season 3, after the whole Angel thing, Willow was trying to push her into dating again. I think that also speaks to Willow's lack of patience.
@@paulinerobertson6836 I also head canon that she encouraged the guy at the beginning of _I Only Have Eyes For You,_ but there's no concrete proof. Just my head canon.
Riley, the PSYCH MAJOR, simply used his years of learned manipulation to push Buffy into accepting him so quickly. She's 18 years old, he (prob 24 as he's in the Master prog) has no idea about her trauma but thinks he's the guy to "make it right" if she's not to "self involved". In this episode, I lost all faith in the guy and never got it back.
10:40 Yeah, that line was definitely not written by someone who knows English slang. "Fag off!" would actually mean "Cigarette off!" which of course makes no sense 😂. So now Spike has discovered he can hit demons it seems he can't wait to help the scoobies take care of some bad guys. New member of the gang? 18:40 If Spike wasn't so good at faking accents Riley would surely have realised who he was 😂 Great reaction Juliette, have a wonderful weekend 💜😺
Fag off 🤣🤣 I wonder if they knew it meant cigarettes? It means that here too, or it used to when I was growing up. I think it's changed now! Sometimes it gets a bit worrisome if I don't keep up with the times and say the wrong thing 😭 Oh please please please let Spike be a new member of the gang!! I'd love that more than anything to happen in this show! They certainly seem to accept him, reluctantly... I'm hopeful 🤣 Thank you, Neil 💜🤗
Just wanted to put forward a couple of quick thoughts. First, the exchange between Buffy and Riley @9:19 is a reference to the ad campaign run on tv (and the radio, I think) for *years* by the US navy; the tagline was “it’s not just a job, it’s an adventure”. Secondly, this episode touches on an idea that’s been referenced in earlier episodes: the idea that Buffy, and by extension all superheroes, are somewhat removed from the rest of humanity because of their abilities and/or responsibilities. This idea is also touched on in the MCU, both in films and on some of the shows; it’s rarely done in a hugely obvious way, but just obliquely in a line of dialogue or two.
I must've heard that line a thousand times when I was a kid, but never caught the reference watching Buffy. I just wondered why she said it, because it just seemed to come out of nowhere. Thanks for connecting those dots!
I love your analogy at the end about it being weird that Spike is on the fringes of the gang and hanging out while he was Buffy's nemesis for so long. But most of us are glad he's around for the comedy value!
It's Buffy Friday once again and I can't wait to see what happens after the last episode and it looks like everything is really getting exciting and I hope to see more of Spike because he and Xander make a great comedy team on the series have a great weekend and thank you my friend Juliette.🇦🇺👋👋🇦🇺
This season is really getting exciting!! I love having Spike as part of the team too haha! It will be interesting seeing how that turns out 🤣 Have a great weekend, Roger!
Hey Tex 💜 I just want to thank you for being so awesome! I can't say enough how wonderful it is to have people here who are positive and uplifting. I really appreciate you so much!!
loved your reaction as always, this episode had one of my all time favorite Giles lines..." Oh,as usual, Dear." the exasperated way he deliver it is so great! you can't help but feel good for Spike when he realizes he can do something after all, even as an unwanted member of the gang he's great!
I loved the episode, but the two years of physics I took in high school, and one in college (an elective, my majors were economics and sociology) made the scene where Buffy jumped after the demon a bit hard to believe. But it was a TV Show, not a science class, so I can suspend the disbelief to let the story go forward. Thank you, as always, and I await the next reaction!
the demon crawled down so is in 100% free fall at G while Buffy jumped in so is accelerating at G+X. Ofc the main issue is the long time she took attaching herself to Riley before jumping in, but if the distance is long enough (which is another issue because the first 2 demons hit bottom very quickly).
On the practical tip, that steel cable playing out through Riley's unprotected hands should probably be doing a serious amount of damage. There's a reason for leather work gloves, after all.
Spikes odd American accent came about because since James Marsters is American, playing a British person, he asked an accent couch how to do a British person doing an American accent and the coach told him to emphasize his "r's" And so he did.
I can't deny that Riley was stating some facts and Buffy can be very self involved at times and as a couple it would be very nice to work side-by-side rather than on opposite sides because of her like he said doom and gloom mentality but Buffy was also right about him being an amateur and the fact that he thinks that wat he does is fun jus proves is own ignorance and bliss and still has a lot to learn about the Supernatural world
Great job. We've been waiting for Spike to hey his mojo back, and become one of the gamg. The ducklings are especially excited because of how they love him. They were mildly disappointed when Spike and Buffy didn't get married,, so now they lnow he will be around.. Have a wonderful weekend .
Hehe!! You have dome cheeky little ducklings there, Cat! I can see why they'd be fans of Spike. They are definitely going to be trouble as they continue to grow 🤣 Have a lovely rest of your weekend 😊💜
Giles got knocked out - it must be Wednesday. There's so much to enjoy in this episode - Spike being pathetic, Spike winding up Xander and Willow, Xander offering to stake Spike just to helpful, Willow being upset with Percy and of course the Buffy/Riley show - oh the drama! :) I love that you're just waiting for things to go wrong, Jules - you know how successful Buffy always is with her relationships...
I have begun to expect only misery 🤣 it really helps with not having high expectations haha. Poor Giles... he's really had it in for him over the years!!
I love how sympathetic people are to Spike in these episodes with his chip. I think it speaks to how likeable Marsters is mainly, he's very charming of course but like, Spike would absolutely try and murder them all if he could so I think they're within their rights to be a bit mean to him to his face. He even tries to brain Xander with a wrench in this very episode, Xander just doesn't notice and obviously he tried to murder Willow twice in the episode the chip stuff got revealed, let alone all the stuff before the chip thing. Also, I appreciate that even though Riley is like, a demon hunting government dude, they still make it clear that Buffy is in a different league and he doesn't make it a weird competition thing. He's just like "yeah I'm not gonna go chasing after a demon on my own, I'd probably die, especially without my gear. We'll get it another day or not, no big". For him it's a job, not the end of the world. The idea that demons could be behind the actual literal end of the world doesn't even seem to be on the initiatives radar really.
How funny would it have been had they written Spike's end as him successfully staking himself in Xander's basement. [note how that is not a question. It is a statement.] 😄
Hi Jules! Another great reaction, but I worry a bit about you, you got way to excited for the kill scene and other violence, lol. Also, Spike trying an American accent was hilarious. Have a wonderful weekend.
Hi Juliette! I’m now at 83%! Only have the story and import/export garage left. 😊❤️. And I have to find and collect every car in the game including emergency vehicles. 😊❤️. Then after, finish the story and get 100%. 😊. But I’ll enjoy the video here while I do that. 😊
Spike isn't innocent and if he were able to kill and rape and do all the horrible things, Buffy would end him but he can't. So kind of runs into a "rules of engagement" situation where you don't kill the innocent or those who can't defend themselves. Buffy also has more important things on her mind with the various nasties that can still rape and kill and so Spike falls to the bottom of the pile. Also while Spike is generally evil, he never really impacted the gang directly. If he'd been the one to kill Jenny, the response would be different. Much as I adore Spike's portrayal by Marsters, the pass he is given when he would have otherwise have murdered Willow, was always deeply strange.
Doomed was a great fun episode with the comedy between Spike and Xander hilarious. It's almost like the 'Odd Couple' the two of them in the basement is a sitcom I would pay to watch. The last part when Spike gets recognised by Riley and tries to put on an American accent was hilarious, and then trying to get Willow and Xander to go out with him and try and kill something, 'oh come on', great comedy.
Buffy and Riley (Buffley?/Rilffy?) Do seem to be a thing now, although I think it's safe to assume that if Buffy was allowed to remember her day with Angel as a human then it wouldn't have gotten this far. But since they're on different shows, it's only fair that Buffy has a love interest that would most likely be around her more often, and it helps keeping hope alive that she can still be with someone genuine if not Angel, even though that hope was almost destroyed by PHP (Poop Head Parker). The reason why Buffy or the others don't just kill Spike now is that in his current condition he's too helpless and pathetic to them. If they just staked him in cold blood when he doesn't pose a physical threat then they'd be no better than the evil monsters they face. Also one of Spikes funniest episodes (especially that rallying cry at the end)😂
@@julesreacts😆 you're not alone. Joss Whedon actually planned to have Spike killed off earlier in the series but couldn't because everyone loves him. Allegedly he confronted James Marsters and told him "nobody is supposed to love you... YOU'RE THE BAD GUY!!!". I guess his humorous wit outweighs his evilness.
Thank you!! I've recorded a couple of X Files episode from Season 4 so far, but I mentioned in the last episode I wanted a break over the holidays as it really gets too much at times!
Technically not a top episode (the "physics" of the ending are silly, there is now no reason for Spike to exist, Riley has some bad dialogue and his general "date me, now!" tone is off-putting even if a lot of what he says is right, and what is up with Giles's voice in his first scene?), but very, very enjoyable. Comfort food. (As a fan of Buffy/Willow, that scene of them after the party is just perfect, rightt down to the little sigh SMG gives as they stand to leave.) Which makes it all the more remarkable that it was thrown together by three writers over a weekend, because all the work on "Hush" had them seriously behind. Marti Noxon handles the Buffy/Riley scenes, Jane Espenson does the Willow/Xander/Spike scenes and the Buffy/Giles scene, and David Fury does the rest. And they all bring it. "Every been to Iowa, Riley? God, if that's even your name." "I come from a long line of fry cooks who don't live past 25." -Marti "No Word of Valios." "Not even a Syllable of Valios." "For Justice and…the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right?" -Jane. "Then I saw the flashing lights and the ambulance and I was like 'right, of course. Death, carnage…it's a Buffy party." "There was so much blood, and there was a symbol…and Percy said I was a nerd!" -Dave Well done all around. Good job, team!
Update: I did it Juliette! Finished gta 3 100%!! Yay! And I got it done before the end of the first week of 2024! 😄😅. Up next, Gta: Vice City! 100%. Going to start that in a few days. ❤️.
Really Liked Doomed. I am the biggest season four Fan. Love where they pick this one up. She's not grading on a curve. Very Happy for Buffy to be right again. pooh pooh Southern California Pooh Pooh Percy isn't a bad guy he's just trying to talk his girlfriend down. I like the contrast between the poetic magical talk and the scientific analytic soldier talk about the same thing. Always remember Spike is a monster. Do love them showing up and Willow saying where are the sacrifice people? I initially thought it was them. You have a security code and ranK? Nooooah. Always remember Spike is a monster.
@@menachemsalomon yes, but we also have to remember, Spike wasn't meant to live past 'what's my line, part 2'. So, in world reason is they can't kill someone who can't fight back. but it's mostly because hes do damn lovable to kill him off.
I get that YT has billions of videos but what is it with half of the top 10 comments, lately, saying they're a month old, when they're a day old or less?
Oh, we are a little bit ahead over on Patreon! So how that works is I share the video over there and then later on it goes public over here on UA-cam 😊
@@julesreacts Wait, so you mean, some of the comments on your Patreon get carried over to the UA-cam comment section? I don't get how that's possible. I think I've seen it on other channels' videos even though they don't have a Patreon so I was thinking that YT was glitching or struggling to keep up with all the data it has (and keeps getting ~10,000 fold every day). Like when there used to be likes and comments listed on a video but no views, or the suspicion that (back when we could see like and disliked figures) YT would add dislikes to videos to even out the ratio.
@@JoeThornhillNo comments from Patreon get carried over. When you see old comments on new videos it's either from Patreon members who have been given early access to watch the video on UA-cam via a link, or from members of that UA-cam channel who have also been given early access to the video before it's made public.
I've recorded a few episodes of season 4 but I explained in the last x files episode that I wanted a break over Christmas 😊 it will hopefully be back soon but I'm not pressuring myself as it's so stressful sometimes!
@@julesreacts oh I didn't catch that update waiting for an season six episode no spoilers on which one but I just think it's the best episode in the whole series so yeah.
Hello, Jules.💜 I have to say that if I was forced to live with Xander, I would likely feel as Spike does.😅 Buffy and Riley have their talk, but a good part of "having a talk" is listening, and it seems as if Riley wasn't really wanting to listen to Buffy - going so far as to label her "self-involved". The attitude doesn't bode well for a long term relationship, so long as he continues this "I know best" attitude. Similar to how Percy was acting. Maybe he was trying to quell the young lady's jealousy, but he didn't have to be cruel. There are many things which could have happened, but he didn't have to be mean. The men folk here seem to be not wanting to listen, or acknowledge, anything the women have to say as being right, or valid... Giles dismissing Buffy's feelings of impending doom, for instance. It was good to see Spike grasp the mojo once again. I have a theory abut that, but you did not say anything towrds that direction, so I keep mum and wait to see how the story develops. Unfortunately I see that the New Years Resolutional Sympathy for NO SPOILERS has already been violently dashed to the kerb in the comments,😖 and here it is, only the 5th/6th day of the New Year.😈 Oh Dear, indeed. 1 thing remains constant, SN Forever!😤😡 Have a wonderful Saturday, Jules.💜💜 Enjoy your weekend. 💖 It is supposed to snow here over the weekend, but nothing major. High winds and little snow
Tom 💜👋 I was really bothered by Percy in this episode!! I always liked him. He even gave Willow an apple! But I also found it so funny how Willow was mainly hung up on being called a nerd. Just the way she said it! She's so funny. My goodness, I love this gang. I know Spike is evil and bad, but I just can't help but love him. I never would have guessed he'd become this character who I'd adore, considering what he was like in the beginning. I'd love to see him integrate himself as one of the gang, but what happens if he can hurt humans again? Ah.... I'm so interested to find out! He'd better not disappoint me 🤣🤣 You know, I had a comment that popped up on an older X Files episode today. I read it, and it was along the lines of "(Very specific thing) happens to Mulder (at some point)" and I don't know if it was a joke, as I don't know if that really would be something that happens to Mulder, but my goodness, it gets frustrating. I'd never seen that person before, but if they are going to come in and write something like THAT, then they immediately get blocked. It really does put me off reading comments, which is a shame as MOST people really are lovely and make me feel so happy. You get the odd handful who will only ever complain, and then the worse bunch like the person above, but generally most people are so lovely 🥰 I really don't get why people would spoil, other than they just want to ruin things and be a nitwit. The complainers I don't understand either as why continue to watch if they only find things to pick on? I really don't get people sometimes 🤣 I do hope you manage to get a little snow! It is back to being sunny once more, so we really are at opposite ends right now. I'd definitely prefer to take some of your weather for a change 😜 Enjoy your day, dear Tom 😊💜
Jules 🤗 Willow is a fantastic character, smart, imaginative, low-key, and a nerd - It seems that nerds are always the last to know of their nerdness. Hopefully one day she embraces it. They seem to have put her character into a searching to be cool mode for now. She should forget the "norms" and seek out folks like the girl from the Hush episode - Tara.😊
Although I found Percy's character to be an entertaining part of the stories he was involved in I never thought of him as someone whose opinion should matter. Just some idiot that Snyder kind of "forced" Willow to tutor. But as far as him being mean to Willow in this episode, I think he mostly saved his hurtful comments for after he thought she wasn't listening anymore. It was kinda nice, strictly for nostalgia's sake of course and nothing more, to see a fellow class member from Sunnydale High again. Especially from such a beloved episode as "Dopplegangland"
She is the Slayer there will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be a normal relationship for her EVER. Not a thing about anything in her life will ever be normal. Also, Spike isnt their friend he is forced to be around. If he had a choice he would brutally kill all of them.
doing a fake american accent over a fake brotish accent when hes actually american is hilarious. and being able to fight demons kind of forces spike to beon the side off the scoobies it seems. more comic relief for us then.
This is the episode where Riley lost me. While Riley doesn't know much about Buffy's past (even admitting as much), he does know about Parker (which he didn't mention... huh🤔). Maybe that's the guy he thinks she's talking about. Riley was making a lot of assumptions, but not quite hitting the target. He's close enough for it to sound good, but the more scrutiny is applied the more holes show up in his argument. As a Psych Major Riley should know better than to give advice to someone when he doesn't know the specifics of their history. He should also know that someone who is traumatized shouldn't be jumping into a romantic relationship (or making any major life decisions for that matter). Riley was trivializing her feelings w/o knowing why she was feeling that way. Anyone who is qualified to be a therapist would be validating her feelings, not suggesting that she ignore them because they're getting in the way of her happiness. In fact, I'd say that Buffy's feelings were getting in the way of what Riley thought would make him happy. This is why therapists don't have friends or family as clients (certainly not a potential love interest). Lines get blurred. In fairness to Riley, I don't think he was being intentionally manipulative or selfish. Just lacking in self awareness. Riley gets an failing grade from me all 'round. Bottom line? Buffy said, "No.", if he truly respected her he would've respected her decision. He said that he wasn't going to give up out of fear. That's fine, but he should've given up out of respect. Fighting to be with her shouldn't mean fighting her. The insults are also completely out of bounds. That is my rant for the day. Wonderful reaction! See you for Angel!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Oooh Becca, thank you for the Riley Rant!! I absolutely get what you mean. Riley is such a mixed bag for me too because I do think he is good for Buffy, and at least he's human, there's parts of me that's just not convinced yet. I want to like him because Buffy likes him, and I just want her to be happy. I've already given up on any happiness, so I'm just letting those two kids loose and I hope someone is there to pick up the pieces if it all falls apart! Poor Buff 😢 Have a lovely weekend, Becca 💜🤗💜
I have to push back on this. Buffy and Riley had exactly two conversations about the breakup. In the first, Riley is blindsided, he doesn't understand, and Buffy doesn't really give a satisfactory reason as to why she wants to break up. Later, after Riley had some time to think things over a bit, they bump into each other on the street. Riley takes the opportunity to state his case. Buffy rebuffs him again while remaining evasive. At which point, Riley _does_ respect her decision. If Riley had come to her again, you might have a point. But having a 2nd conversation when the 1st wasn't satisfactorily resolved is not unreasonable. And holding Riley to the standard of a therapist is unfair. Yes, Riley is a psych major. Most psych majors are planning a career in psychology, so adopting the mindset of a therapist is something that would behoove them. But Riley isn't a normal psych major; that's just a cover. He has zero intention of becoming a therapist after he graduates, so why are you expecting him to act like one? Finally, I have to point out that, in the end, Buffy did pursue a relationship with Riley. Though not explicitly stated, it's clear Buffy thought he was right and she was wrong.
Please Spike is still cool and hot even in this clown outfit that Xander calls clothes. And I am glad that he was able to prove that he still has smth to say even without his powers and ability to bite Buffy is not 'normal'. She has demon power in her. She is half supernatural. Only that she is not a vampire doesn't make her 'normal'. And what is 'normal' eventually? A typical normal guy is not able to understand her. That's not her life. She should be able to deal with supernatural, that's the way for her to learn how to deal with her life, with who she is. The more she runs from it and hides in smth what is not her the bigger problems it can bring, if it was actual case, if it was actual life of a person.
Stupid, self involved (while she saved people and the world so many times, and sacrificed so much... LOOOL he really don't know her, and judges I hate people like that...) I really disliked Riley this episode ! His discussion with Buffy is wrong on so many levels ! If someone says no, it's NO ! If they change their mind, you'll see, but you can't and shouldn't talk them into it. Or insult them because they chose something you don't agree with ! That's toxic ! I mean, a relationship it's two people. If only one of them doesn't want it anymore, it's sad, but it's over. Forcing things is NEVER the answer, especially when there is nothing yet, like here. I do not like Riley, and this is one of the reasons why XD
"What!? I was helping!"
Been looking forward to when Spike becomes part of the Scooby Gang.
I love it so much 🤣
Spike finds meaning in his undead life!
Another great episode! I love Spike putting on an American accent to throw Riley off his scent.
That was SO GOOD 🤣🤣🤣
And James Marsters is American. He had to learn some about British accents from Anthony Stewart Head.
"If you weren't so self-involved you'd see that."
Tell me you don't understand Buffy without saying you don't understand Buffy.
I think he realized he was wrong when she jumped headfirst towards the hellmouth.
tell me you don't know what "self-involved" means without saying you don't know what "self-involved" means. (hint: it's not a synonym for "selfish".)
Ancient prophecy; you can't mess with the dates. [/weak]
Scheduling conflicts 😂😂😂
The world needs a Xander/Spike roommate spinoff in the worst way.
Like a revamped (pun intended) Odd Couple
I was gonna say something similar but I,alas, was no match for you and your clever intended punning! A supernatural "Odd Couple" would make some fine entertainment indeed
Rupert Giles: It's the end of the world.
Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris: *Again*? 😄😄😄
5:06-5:12 Naked-limbo guy gets brutally killed by a monster >> Jules laughs, calling "beautiful!" / An evil vampire tries to off himself because he can no longer kill humans >> Jules pouts "aww, poor Spike" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Re: Buffy and Riley.
A few episodes ago he gave her the option to be sired instead of just killing her, after all 😁
I have an appreciation for particularly brutal or unexpected kills 🤣
You can change things.” "This doom and gloom mentality."
Buffy's always been like this.
SPOILERS - S6, S7, and the comics:
In S7, CWDP, Holden pointed at the same issue with Buffy.
@@Jessica_Roth (spoilers)
As opposed to all the other characters who've raped, SA'd, and murdered?
"the moment that chip wears off, he'd do it again"
-That's probably true, but not from mid season 5 onward.
And people wonder why we like Spike so much.
He's awesome 🤣
Xander: If we don't find what we're looking for, we're facing an apocalypse.
Spike: Really? You're not just saying that?
LOL. The comedy duo I never knew I needed.
And my favorite part:
Spike: I say we go out there and kick a little demon ass! Come on! Vampires! GRRR! Nasty! Let's annihilate them. For justice... and for the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right? Let's fight that evil! Let's kill something! OH, COME ON! 😆🤣
So glad Spike found some purpose again.
Spike rallying the troops 🤣🤣
“Oh, come on!”
Seriously, Spike is just blowing up this season, isn’t he? The show really honestly needed the pick up with the humor, the attitude and the really wonderfully fake “Who, me? No suuur.”
And it is good you have given up on joy with Buffy. It makes the pain hurt less.
Spike at the end of the episode 😂 love it
77 pages left in the book of Buffy and we are worried our precious / innocent Juliette is falling for Spike! We must keep tuning in to save our Jules from the dark side.🤗
Awww thank you 😊 💜
11:32 "For Spike to get to that point? That is huge." Ah. But, you see, Spike _missed_ the point! 😉
@Buffy8Fan I mean, I could see that.
18:40 If Spike wasn't so good at faking accents Riley would surely have realised who he was 😂
Great reaction Juliette, have a wonderful weekend 💜😺
Fag off 🤣🤣 I wonder if they knew it meant cigarettes? It means that here too, or it used to when I was growing up. I think it's changed now! Sometimes it gets a bit worrisome if I don't keep up with the times and say the wrong thing 😭
Oh please please please let Spike be a new member of the gang!! I'd love that more than anything to happen in this show! They certainly seem to accept him, reluctantly... I'm hopeful 🤣
Thank you, Neil 💜🤗
Yes, it should've been "Bugger off!!!". ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Would have meant the same thing in the USA. It meant cigarette a very long time before it meant anything else.

@@becca1189 Yes, but it doesn't really matter. It is a meaningless phrase, then and now, regardless.
14:04 EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!! 👍
Happy to help; cheers. :)
I love your analogy at the end about it being weird that Spike is on the fringes of the gang and hanging out while he was Buffy's nemesis for so long. But most of us are glad he's around for the comedy value!
He really ramps up the humour which I cannot complain about! I love it 🤣
It's Buffy Friday once again and I can't wait to see what happens after the last episode and it looks like everything is really getting exciting and I hope to see more of Spike because he and Xander
make a great comedy team on the series have a great weekend and thank you my friend Juliette.🇦🇺👋👋🇦🇺
This season is really getting exciting!! I love having Spike as part of the team too haha! It will be interesting seeing how that turns out 🤣 Have a great weekend, Roger!
19:37 Hint hint wink wink😉😂🐶🐕Amazing episode with our comic relief Mr. Spike🤣Thanks so much Juliette have a wonderful weekend!
Ahh thank you, Charlie!! Some good moments in this one for sure. Loved it a lot 💜
4:20 great edit 'there just animals man' cut to partying teenagers lol
11:52 EXACTLY! That look on your face. Perfect.
My goodness!! I mean... he tried. Oh boy, was he trying 🤣
Let's kill something! 🥺
God, I love Spike. 😂
Spike can only hurt demons not humans.
Just an ol' pal of Xander's 🤣
One of my favourite lines so far 🤣🤣
Why hasn’t anyone in the comments clarified that spike can only attack other demons????
Yes, that is right. I guess I'm still a little afraid of what Spike might do once he "gets better"
5:45 ha. Extra creepy because his eyes are closed in the closeup and open in the wide shot 😉
American James Marsters pretending to be British pretending to be American 🤣
Spikes odd American accent came about because since James Marsters is American, playing a British person, he asked an accent couch how to do a British person doing an American accent and the coach told him to emphasize his "r's" And so he did.
And Anthony Stewart Head was James's accent coach!
I can't deny that Riley was stating some facts and Buffy can be very self involved at times and as a couple it would be very nice to work side-by-side rather than on opposite sides because of her like he said doom and gloom mentality but Buffy was also right about him being an amateur and the fact that he thinks that wat he does is fun jus proves is own ignorance and bliss and still has a lot to learn about the Supernatural world
Spike might be the greatest character ever created in all of tv and literature.
No spike is the best not to be mean but he is the BEST!!!
@@migmit 😮😮😮😮……..Oz is great, but Spike is phenomenal. (Edit- I appreciate the bold take though)
Great job.
We've been waiting for Spike to hey his mojo back, and become one of the gamg. The ducklings are especially excited because of how they love him. They were mildly disappointed when Spike and Buffy didn't get married,, so now they lnow he will be around..

Hehe!! You have dome cheeky little ducklings there, Cat! I can see why they'd be fans of Spike. They are definitely going to be trouble as they continue to grow 🤣
Have a lovely rest of your weekend 😊💜
"Hahahaha oh, beautiful." as a demon murders a human. 🤣
I do like me some murder scenes 😅
Giles got knocked out - it must be Wednesday. There's so much to enjoy in this episode - Spike being pathetic, Spike winding up Xander and Willow, Xander offering to stake Spike just to helpful, Willow being upset with Percy and of course the Buffy/Riley show - oh the drama! :) I love that you're just waiting for things to go wrong, Jules - you know how successful Buffy always is with her relationships...
I have begun to expect only misery 🤣 it really helps with not having high expectations haha.
Poor Giles... he's really had it in for him over the years!!
Gotta love Spike. James masters does a reasonable job with an English accent, but he lets it down with his pronunciation of “poof”🙂.
Literally the only thing I like about Forrest is when Riley asks about the slayer and he tells him it's a thrash metal band. Gets me every time haha
🤣🤣🤣
Great as always. And brave to tackle the big issues: is Willow still a nerd. Tackled with tenderness and sensitivity.
So talking of Spike as Iago...
Awesome video as always!
Thank you 😊
How funny would it have been had they written Spike's end as him successfully staking himself in Xander's basement.
[note how that is not a question. It is a statement.] 😄
It would have been a huge surprise for sure!! Hope you're having a lovely day, Darn!

You’re welcome! I indeed enjoy it! ❤️
Spike was incredible in this episode!! I really shouldn't like him as much as I do as he's really quite evil, but I can't help it 🤣
@@julesreacts😆 you're not alone.
Great reactions👍 are you still doing X Files too?
Thank you!! I've recorded a couple of X Files episode from Season 4 so far, but I mentioned in the last episode I wanted a break over the holidays as it really gets too much at times!
Doomed is a great episode 👍
Technically not a top episode (the "physics" of the ending are silly, there is now no reason for Spike to exist, Riley has some bad dialogue and his general "date me, now!" tone is off-putting even if a lot of what he says is right, and what is up with Giles's voice in his first scene?), but very, very enjoyable. Comfort food.
(As a fan of Buffy/Willow, that scene of them after the party is just perfect, rightt down to the little sigh SMG gives as they stand to leave.)
Which makes it all the more remarkable that it was thrown together by three writers over a weekend, because all the work on "Hush" had them seriously behind.
Marti Noxon handles the Buffy/Riley scenes, Jane Espenson does the Willow/Xander/Spike scenes and the Buffy/Giles scene, and David Fury does the rest. And they all bring it.
"Every been to Iowa, Riley? God, if that's even your name."
"I come from a long line of fry cooks who don't live past 25." -Marti
"No Word of Valios." "Not even a Syllable of Valios."
"For Justice and…the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right?" -Jane.
"Then I saw the flashing lights and the ambulance and I was like 'right, of course. Death, carnage…it's a Buffy party."
"There was so much blood, and there was a symbol…and Percy said I was a nerd!" -Dave
Well done all around. Good job, team!

"We can't just kill him. We know him. It would be icky." That's what Willow says, and it is also, in a way, what the writers are telling the audience.

Spike and Buffy as enemies doesn't hold a candle to Spike and Buffy as allies.
I love Spike being part of the gang SO MUCH 🤩
I'd say they're frenemies now. And yeah, it's fantastic. :)
Hello, Jules.💜
I have to say that if I was forced to live with Xander, I would likely feel as Spike does.😅
Buffy and Riley have their talk, but a good part of "having a talk" is listening, and it seems as if Riley wasn't really wanting to listen to Buffy - going so far as to label her "self-involved".
1 thing remains constant, SN Forever!😤😡
Have a wonderful Saturday, Jules.💜💜 Enjoy your weekend. 💖
It is supposed to snow here over the weekend, but nothing major. High winds and little snow
Tom 💜👋
I was really bothered by Percy in this episode!!
He'd better not disappoint me 🤣🤣
You know, I had a comment that popped up on an older X Files episode today. I really don't get people sometimes 🤣
I do hope you manage to get a little snow! It is back to being sunny once more, so we really are at opposite ends right now. I'd definitely prefer to take some of your weather for a change 😜 Enjoy your day, dear Tom 😊💜
Jules 🤗
Willow is a fantastic character, smart, imaginative, low-key, and a nerd - It seems that nerds are always the last to know of their nerdness.
I miss The X Files reactions 😢
I said in my last X Files video I was taking a much needed break over the Christmas holidays, so there's more info there if you need it 😊
@@julesreacts thank you so much for your effort. Loving watching them again with you. I'll be looking forward when they come back 😉
Thank you for your patience 🥰 It is very appreciated!!
I loved Spike in this one 🤣
Balls.
🏀
Poor Buff 😢
Have a lovely weekend, Becca 💜🤗💜
🤗🤗👋👋💖💖
Hello 👋
Please Spike is still cool and hot even in this clown outfit that Xander calls clothes. And I am glad that he was able to prove that he still has smth to say even without his powers and ability to bite
Buffy is not 'normal'.
Clown outfit 🤣🤣 That made my day! Thank you!!
Yeah, it really wasn't a good episode for Riley 🫣
Great reaction
Thank you, Freddie!
