Back in the very early 60s they couldn't get enough blue's records from American Bluesmen such as Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson and many more, unlike other bands that totally plagiarized their music the Rolling Stones loved these men and they payed tribute to them by covering their music and making it known who and where it came from, playing on stage together with some of these musicians was pretty cool and what a great way to show how much the Rolling Stones loved not only the blue's music but the men who first performed it and did it. I have a very deep appreciation for blue's music and the people who have been doing it for many years now, the Rolling Stones are a great blue's band, so much talent and it shows and I love it 🎸

Back in 1964 I was 17 yrs old and listening to all the British groups like the Who, Animals etc etc.....when I got my hands on the Rolling Stones Now album it was a game changer, I'd always loved Chuck Berry & Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, Little Richard & Bo Diddley growing up....but reading the album liner notes on the backside....I wondered who was Howling Wolf & Muddy Waters? I soon started searching through all the record shops in Tampa and found some Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Willie Dixon, etc etc I went to NYC in 1967 and was like a kid in a candy shop...ended up with 7 suitcases of albums mostly by blues artists who would never get air time on mainstream radio...also bought a 1957 Les Paul gold top, a stratocaster and a Gibson J 18 acoustic guitar. I owe it to the Stones for leading me to delta and Chicago blues.
I'm with ya...I'm just 3 years younger and the Stones, and Led Zeppelin were my intro to the blues world. Like you the writer/liner notes were the crumbs to follow to the sources and down the rabbit hole I went. I still use an iPod and of the 7122 songs on it 80% are blues.

I have always felt that The Rolling Stones were at their BEST when playing the blues, especially during the Brian Jones days. The group shows a great respect for the genre. Their abbreviated version of Prodigal Son by the Late Rev. Wilkens is a masterpiece.
The biggest reason Brian left the group (besides being fired) was exactly that...he didn't like the music they were playing anymore. Brian wanted to stick to their Roots...Blues. Mick & Keith knew there was "only so far" they were going to go, doing that.

Stones=Fancy Man Blues!!TRES Heavy Bluesology!!!
I wish they would record more albums of old R &B tunes. I might actually buy one.
Do you mean classical rhythm and blues as opposed to contemporary R&B, such as the music by Beyoncé and Alicia Keys etc?
@@MrErtunc I've always liked their covers, whether it was Chuck Berry or Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters or Motown.
