Snoopy belongs to everyone while very much being the alter-ego of his creator Charles M. Schulz. Schulz’s likes, dislikes, hobbies and sense of humor are most often expressed by Snoopy more so than the other characters.
Me, myself, personally, as a person prefer the surrealism of Heathcliff And if you really want to get into the different orange cat, there's What's Michael?
I actually know it’s from two things, well 3. Scp foundation and what gen z calls horror core, but we can just call it eldritch horror. First an idea that Garfield existed as a eldritch god that made its creator need to keep making more comics to keep it alive and the horror was just the weird over detailed drawings of other cartons with long limbs and horrifying faces. Like a thing like shaggy and Scooby asking for snackrifice of Scooby snack from Fred and Velma.
I’ve always loved snoopy. I don’t have much of an attachment to any of the Peanuts source material, but I’ve latched onto Snoopy for some reason, so much so that every gift my Aunt gets has gotten me for over the last ten years has had Snoopy on it in some form 😂 Definitely just a chill lil guy
Shultz was a real one with Franklin's debut strip. Flat out told his publisher "you either print exactly what I drew with no edits, or I quit. Let's see how long your business lasts without me."
I want everyone to know something about the thanksgiving movie. It was made in a time where media was still segregated and the studio was going to refuse to air the feature if Franklin sat next to the other characters, the only way it would have been aired is if Franklin sat on the opposite side of the table by himself. This was a win for equality at the time, even if now it would seem racist. Franklin was created in response to a letter shultz got from a teacher, after martin luther king jr was k*lled. The teacher thought that it might help kids be more understandable towards other kids.
my biology teacher last year saw me wearing a peanuts tshirt and she said she was surprised my generation still actively recognized snoopy, and i was surprised by her saying that. hes so iconic to me and so many other ppl ik, hes just a silly guy 💜
I am a 30 year old brazilian man with the Charlie Brown Christmas on DVD. Every time I watch it I feel something between joy and sadness. And another feel good feeling that is also a bit similar to what I feel when I watch Miyazaki’s movies.
Snoopy is to the Peanuts what Gir is to invader Zim, A depressing world, and he is some upbeat, goes by the rhythm of his own drum, rascal, troublemaker
Gen X here. Snoopy is my patron cartoon character. (Like a patron saint, but pop culture IP.) I'm thrilled that the youths have found their way to my cult. It's good here on the red dog house.
Ive always loved snoopy my whole life, but recently I have been hyper dependent on snoopy like its my hello kitty since he truly makes me happy whenever I see that little dude just living life despite everything. He gets angry, he gets sad, he gets upset and uncomfortable and he’s happy, he’s satisfied, he’s proud and he loves all at once. Imo he shows all the sides of life in a easily digestible way that is very relatable to especially modern youth. You often see snoopy be the butt of jokes and in highly stressful situations for laughs like when he has to make a whole thanksgiving dinner practically alone. He’s also shown being a pilot and a successful person despite the circumstances. There are moments where snoopy thrives where the others fail pretty often and its played off as a side gag, its always just something snoopy can do somehow. Personally as the youngest in my family and the kid no one wanted really wanted anything to do with most of the time, snoopy comics actually gave me ideas when my mom would leave me with my grandparents. I fell in love with snoopy because in my little kid mind, he was a brat who was unapologetically so and his family loved him anyway. He’d mess up and he wasn’t punished, he was laughed at and brushed off. Much like the video says, my family became my own peanut gallery and I gradually began to ignore them more with age. Snoopy made me realize that appearances dont actually matter and it truly is who you are that is most important. I mean he is just a little white dog with black spots after all, but he’s also so much more than that. For some reason, if a little dog who cant speak and is usually the butt of the joke can do it than so can I! Not to trauma dump, but snoopy and garfield (mostly oddy! Loved that dog!) shaped my childhood when the only cartoons i had were the news clippings while my grandparents did their best to raise my brother and I through retirement.
Snoopy is the pure distillation of all the goodness in humanity. All the heart, all the humanity, all the imagination, the excitement, adventure, whimsy, wonder and lust for life. He’s the personification of dreams and imagination, totally in love with life. For that matter, Calvin and Hobbes are the exact same thing. Calvin the grounded, realistic side of humanity, Hobbes the imagination and potential. Both are in awe of the natural world, both are in love with life. Snoopy and Calvin and Hobbes should be required in schools. Yeah it’s sentimental, but damnit, children need to read them.
The combination of "Why Gen Z LOVES (and needs) Snoopy" and the thumbnail sounds like something some 56 year old white lady in the line at the shady gas station next to McDonalds would come up with for conversation lmao
You reminded me of something in the part where you talked about how when you are an adult, you have more vocabulary to describe emotions and so rewatching old media hit you in ways you don't expect. When I was a kid I LOVED the 1964 Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer stop motion film. I had a copy and would watch it over and over, even in the summer. A couple Christmases ago I rewatched it for the first time since I was a kid. As soon as it started I just had tears streaming down my face which surprised me. When it got to the song, "Why am I such a misfit?" I started sobbing. I connected the dots on why this story resonated with me so much. I grew up with undiagnosed autism and it was really validating to know I felt something was "off" even back then. I just didn't have the words to describe it. I also cried very hard during the Island of Misfit toys part, and the end when the toys all get to go to loving families!
I grew up with Snoopy thanks to my Mother. She taped episodes and specials when they were on Nickelodeon on VHS, and I watched them over and over again. With how bleak the world is for younger folk, they really need an uplifting work of art, and Peanuts is just a thing I hope they discover and find the same joy and love it gave me growing up.
Thanks so much for sharing this because it’s essentially the exact same reason as to why I love snoopy! My mom is Gen X / boomer so she got to see when snoopy was coming out on TV with the holiday specials.
I live in Sonoma County California, where the peanuts came from. It’s really cool that I live so close to the Charles Schultz museum and in Santa Rosa, there are Peanuts statues all over town.
Ohhh I LOVE this deep dive!!! Snoopy’s been my comfort character my entire life, my snoopy stuffy has seen me through everything in life I love him so much
I’m 18 and I have 1 tattoo it is a little sleeping baby Snoopy. Snoopy has always been one of my favorite characters I don’t really know why I think part of it is he has been there my entire life and he is just really cute like I has watched a good amount of the specials and seen the movie and like read some of the strips but he’s just a special lil guy to me. And I I have never had a dog so it definitely isn’t that
Snoopy lives in his own bubble! Or least he does, to an extent. He acts out, and then gets embarrassed, when he realizes others are watching. I'm mostly basing this observation on the Christmas special, where he starts off dancing around, while Schroeder's playing the piano, and then realizes that others are looking! Then, he starts blushing! 🤣He's extremely self-aware.
I'm Gen X, and I m not lying or exaggerating when I tell you that during one of the most emotionally overwhelming times of my life, looking at a piece of snoopy Easter fabric was the only comfort I could find, and I clung to that.
Snoopy is awesome. He is lazy, aloof, cool, always forgets his owners name, a little bit selfish, imaginative, and he has several different personas. He is a world war I flying ace, hack writer, an attorney, etc. He has to escape to fantasy because being a dog is secretly kinda boring even though he brags about being a dog sometimes. Animated Snoopy is great but he is at his best in the comics. In the comics you can see more of hiss 3rd minesnions more ealily because you can read his thoughts.
As a millennial coworker to so many Zoomers I always found it kind of adorable that they all loved and know about Snoopy. For me, he was always one of those cartoons I watched with my parents and grandparents but never was a huge cultural (I actually still have my Snoopy and Woodstock baby pillow case). I'm glad to see a friendly lil guy has spanned generations and really is for the people - I get a lot of joy seeing people share all of the Snoopy shenanigans.
the video we needed! i am technically gen z i think, and i am indeed charmed by snoopy. secondary point that i am obsessed with the soundtracks to the peanuts movies (vincent guaraldi) which i do think are part of the reason why charlie brown and snoopy feel so nostalgic to me.
Never was too big into Snoopy or Peanuts, but my grandma loved collecting Snoopy stuff, and i visited her quite a bit for holidays. I vividly remember the snoopy shaped christmas tree lights and Peanuts calendar on the fridge. She's not around anymore, but my aunt lives in the house and keeps all the Snoopy stuff on a shelf. Maybe i should add something to it
You need to get into Krazy Kat and Ignatz. Being mixed raced and born in 1880, you can see George Herriman struggle with his identity through the comic. Shultz was a fan of the comic along with Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) Loved the video, you rule.

6:54 In addition to the question of the origins of the term "Peanut Gallery" itself, the fact that it arrived via Howdy Doody is itself problematic: my mother loved the show as a kid, but when watching clips of it on UA-cam decades later, she discovered, to her distress, that it included blackface as "humor", which had entirely gone over her head as a kid.
That said, given the "the meek will inherit the Earth" vibes of the comic, I don't think that a name that reflects how the characters are perceived by those around them is entirely uncalled for. Even though it's not how the audience should see the characters, it helps establish that the characters are downtrodden.
It’s been funny to see because I notice it too. I’m from Charles Schulz county and we have peanuts statues all over town dressed up. A Mexican taco truck plaza opened up and they have a mariachi snoopy. I tell people I grew up with snoopy that’s my boy.
I’ve been around peanuts stuff for my whole life, since I live right next to Cedar Point, so I have an extremely good appreciation for the peanuts comics and specials. I love getting to see and buy the merchandise too! I love the peanuts characters a lot, but my favorite has to be Snoopy’s sister Belle! She’s so cute!!!
Was always a big fan thanks to my grandmother and I've always had some memorabilia around. But now that I see it everywhere I have mixed feelings. So long as he stays true to his origins I'm here for it
This video showing up for me the day after coming back from my vacation to Japan where I bought like 8 Snoopy plushies 🤣 Peanuts specials are always one of the highlights of my holidays, and now that life as an adult is hard, Peanuts is so special to me. It reminds me of childhood in such a nostalgic and cozy way. Peanuts makes me feel safe
I really like how the peanuts is a way for me to connect with my parents as me and them both grew up with the peanuts, it’s strange nothing else is like that
i did NOT know that snoopy was so popular with gen z; that is super cool! as a zillenial myself with a solidly Gen Z sister and early Gen X parents (both born in the late 60s) we all like snoopy in one way or another, though my mom is probably the biggest fan 😁
I hadn't realized but I do have my profile picture of snoopy in two social media platforms lmao, I never watched the show or movies but just his image is comforting, idk how to explain it, I don't even consider myself a snoopy fan or anything, but yeah
As a cis gender, first year Gen X white male, I grew up with the peanuts, more so the TV specials than the comic strip. I really enjoyed your contemporary and progressive view on The Peanuts and Snoopy. Excellent video!
I think deriving the title Peanuts from peanut gallery is actually intriguing. Completely vibe with his disdain for allowing his characters to be associated with a connotation of “not worth listening to” and recognizing race’s role in its diminishing attitude from society. However I think it’s a title that encapsulates how the adults of Peanuts treat them. The only time these kids have a voice is bc all of the kids provide a platform to be listened to amongst each other. The adults voices literally drone and dismiss them everytime they interact with them. Peanuts feels similar to kids movies from the 90s and early 2000s where kids had their own organizations separate from adults (spy kids, etc). Recognition of their own autonomy in their own self governed groups.
snoopy can be a hero all he wants. unless we make some real changes we still doomed. i love the peanuts btw. such a special franchise. the real hero should be charlie brown. he was telling us nothing matters since we were all 5.
I absolutely love Snoopy and I don’t like to gate keep anything but I’m so scared that he’ll become Sanriofied and ppl start acting crazy at Tj Max looking for Snoopy merch. I’ve always seen Snoopy everywhere like in Aeropostal, and American Eagle but it scares me seeing him all over tik tok bc it’s feeling like it’s not my algorithm anymore, but more of the overconsumption media
i’m honestly shocked calvin and hobbes isn’t bigger for the same reasons as peanuts, calvin also talks a lot about adult issues and is very existential 😭 i guess it’s because there’s not calvin and hobbes merchandise allowed like there is for snoopy
Snoopy has been a GI, Silent, Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z icon.

Snoopy is cute, but to me the Looney Tunes will always be beloved to me
I’m shocked a video about gen Z that I a gen Z agree with???? I LOVE SNOOPY. He’s so relatable.
I for the longest time as a kid thought snoopy was just Brian from family guy, but like a look in past life. I have no idea why I thought that
yeah 😋 (1:47)
yeah !
I just think the Peanuts are neat.
(Im also OBSESSED with animation history so that helps to.)
I also got gormet me,he’s peaceful,smart & quite
me. but with Garfield 🥲🫶
We all just snoopy fr
I also need Snoop Dogg, too.
