Unpopular opinion: saying something is overrated is a very basic opinion, it only means you don't like it, which is fine, but there's no reason why that would be interesting other than the weak shock factor of "person don't like things a lot of ppl like😳😮" and can be quickly thrown away. Best example is Beyonce, millions like her, millions don't, is not that serious or thought provoking. Second thing is some things are just not for you, if you think singing and performing are the prime indicator of good music, then go listen a singer/performer, but what is good or bad is not as clear cut as how high your voice can be.
to me, fantano is like... the biggest or most respected, especially since he has also managed to get big on tiktok too? but at the same time, not the only person i go to, tbh. also i was the person who mentioned him, and i was fully jumpscared by my own opinion NDMDLLD
i have more thoughts: i think that people sometimes in this day and age where we have The X Guy (fantano being The Music Reviewer Guy) that there was so mamy different music publications for a reason! to me that reason is diversity in opinion! pitchfork, rolling stones, nme etc all gave different reviews and that is gonna create a fuller picture than 1 fantano review

Oh, Chappell Roan - I really like her voice and most of her album. For me I tend to not like albums that switch wildly from one emotion to an opposing one, so I don't listen to Midwest Princess much, but I love the individual songs on there. I'm so so glad she's gotten popular because if not I probably wouldn't have discovered her, but at the same time I am so sad that she's caught in the online discourse world because she really didn't seem ready. As for her music, I think my favourites have to be Red Wine Supernova, Casual, Good Luck, Babe!, After Midnight, Pink Pony Club
I think fantano is a decent reviewer bc he’s honest but he doesn’t give songs a chance a lot of the time and that bothers me. If he doesn’t like the first minute of a song he’ll skip it when in reality so much could still happen in the next 2 minutes and he might end up liking it. I don’t think you can have a proper opinion on a song or album if u didn’t hear half of it. If he did start doing that i would find him an amazing reviewer (eventho i usually don’t agree with him. We have different music taste ig)
I feel the same way! I was rlly excited when I saw a PORTALS by MM review and then it ended up being a joke and wasn’t actually about the album. I was disappointed because this is the album where Melanie’s voice sounds the best and some of the lyrics are much stronger then her last albums :(

HIT ME HARD AND SOFT was very underwhelming. I kept waiting to be hit hard with the music but I never was. COWBOY CARTER - I remember really liking this album but I don't remember a lot of tracks... THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT (why is everyone stylising their album names in capital letters?) - People are listening this album in bad faith and while I can't say I blame them (Taylor Swift is so oversaturated rn) I think it's a pretty obvious satire or dramatisation (depending on the song) of her past experiences, and she still has some earworms in there
I also listened to the Dua Lipa album, on release, but for the life of me I can't remember anything about it. That tells me it probably wasn't good enough. Some individual popular songs this year I've hated: "I like the way you kiss me" by Artemas - the lyrics and production are so incredibly lame and stink of teenage boy, yet the artist is 25? "MILLION DOLLAR BABY" by Tommy Richman - I actually can't articulate well what I don't like about this one. I would say probably a combination of the voice and the sound in the background that kind of sounds like air being let out of a broken Whoopee cushion. "Lose Control" by Teddy Swims - unfortunately the beginning of this song will always remind me of Joke's On You by Charlotte Lawrence, which is a song from the Birds of Prey movie. I liked that movie but I can't take Lose Control seriously because of it. "Too Sweet" by Hozier - I'm glad he has a hit, but overplay is starting to make me dislike this one which is quite sad. "yes, and?" by Ariana Grande - a very strange choice to be the single from the album and it rubs me the wrong way honestly. I know pop music is a cesspool of capitalism and commercialisation but given how different the song is from the rest of the album, it's very clear that she just released it to capitalise on her controversy. Also I find it hilarious that she sings "say that shit with your chest" in such an airy voice.
What will always surprise me is the absurd amount of people who hate pop singers, it's like it's a trend or something 😅. I mean, don't they have anything better to do than insult and criticize girls who don't even know them? Anyway, what envy and free time do 💁
GUTS (spilled) - technically not really a new album but I really liked it. so american is a great song Sabrina Carpenter phenomenon - I listened to emails i can't send ages ago and I remember liking Fast Times the most and feeling underwhelmed by the rest. As for her singles: Espresso was good on the first few listens but quickly became really grating to me. I liken it to stale bread. Please Please Please was unappealing to me from the first listen, I just don't like how she sings it. I listened to Slim Pickins because it was the song on the album that looked the most interesting and I really loved that one. I think Carpenter has potential to make amazing, relistenable pop but for me she just hasn't reached it yet. I think she will though.

He's also not really funny to me, so that aspect of his videos falls flat. I use his channel as more a tool to discover new music than a guy whose opinions I really look up to, however he's definitely passionate and his content works for a lot of people. For pop music reviews I tend to go to Todd in the Shadows, Sean Fay-Wolfe, The Double Agent (rip his channel) and a lot of online music review places. The UA-camrs I mentioned just appeal to me more. Lately Fantano also coincidentally changes his opinion to fit the public's too often for my taste. It might be completely genuine, I know I've definitely changed my mind hearing other people's opinions on things, but it feels forced to me

Tate McRae + Gracie Abrams - I don't get the appeal of these artists. Personally I can't stand artists that can't pronounce their vowels properly unless they do something interesting with their music, and these two certainly don't. Katy Perry - she sounds like a Muppet to me when she sings, or like she's sick and she's singing with mucus in her throat. Sometimes it's tolerable in her older music because the rest of the song is good. But her album this year is just...... I don't think anyone likes it. It's a new low that is somehow lower than Witness (in my eyes).
