Isn’t engineering fun? Jeremy Fielding and I had a blast with the mad batter, and it looks like you guys had fun with the batcopter! The sounds of that thing brought back terrifying memories. Congratulations guys! May God continue to bless your efforts.
P.S. Stay safe and pile some dirt up in front of that container!
You still will always hold the fastest baseball record.
This man needs to get pinned to the top! Love your videos!
I love the positive spirit and the competition on a category I never knew I wanted to see
Yessirrr!
So cool to see you watching this. We'll be expecting a part 2!
Can I just say how much I really appreciate Jack's red trails of all the ball hits? Really makes every shot look that much smoother. How good, Jack!
They do this in professional golf as well. Its really cool motion detecting stuff that i have no idea about but needless to say it is really awesome. Imagine being the guy back in the 80s who had to keep the camera on a golf ball at a tournament lol.

The Batcopter was built to be able to hit all sorts of stuff which is why it’s so big!
Yes we wanted to hit a ball farther than Destin but that was only the Batcopter’s first challenge. We wanted to make a versatile machine that could also hit larger/heavier balls like basketballs, soccer balls etc really far so we can do even harder challenges. This is why in the engineers simulations it shows those bigger balls and not baseballs.
Lots more cool stuff coming from the Batcopter everyone, how good!
Great!

I love how even in the wide shots the trajectory is just.... Straight.... Absolute insanity.
Cant help feeling this is a different record, being that Destin used regulation bats, but that doesnt detract from the engineering at all though!
Yeah, theres got to be some sort of ruleset, otherwise you could just do any stupid thing that hits a ball and call it a home run. Not only did Destin do it with legal bats, but he also did it in a regulation field too, not that that makes TOO much difference, but it is what it is. Regulation bats from home base on a regulation field, vs... some crazy weird metal rod helicopter looking thing in a backwoods clearing. *shrug*

So much I could say! Brilliant effort guys. My big takeaways are:
1) It's crazy how similar a couple of baseball bats sound to a real helicopter if swung around fast enough.
2) The Magnus effect is so very beautifully demonstrated with some of those hits!
You have Destin with real bats and actual pitching, you have Shane with a human swinging the bat, and then you have this monstrosity. Beautiful engineering and amazing consistency. Can't wait to see the basketballs.
Haha yeh it’s a beautiful monstrosity. If we only wanted to hit baseballs we wouldn’t have made it so big. Basketballs will be insane 🤩

I've been working in the mechanical design/engineering/manufacturing field for over 15 years, including time spent in aerospace around US military weapons components, and I have never heard anything like the sound that the Batcopter makes when it connects. In context that is one of the most terrifying noises I have ever heard a machine make.
Pretty please, do more of this. Two thumbs way up.
The noise *is* terrifying (and awesome), but the dent in the "bat" is what worries me most.
At 400rpm, the only way to describe what happens if it breaks/folds is; Catastrophic failure.
Its like that sound of the screw dropped in the jet engine - very wonderful noise out of context but utterly terrifying in context
@@The_Keeper In the trade we call that "rapid unplanned disassembly"
right around 11:05 is that a ricochet noise from the “bat”, or is it a projectile whistle?
@@kevinmonahan8493 definitely sounds like the ball. My guess would be a seam split on impact and gave the air a chance to get under the hide
Mad respect to Anthony (and +1 for Jess) for letting you use his land - and I assume letting you put that concrete pad down too in the middle of his field - all for some massively cool experiment! Hello checkmark
I want to see Destin's 1,000 MPH baseball cannon "pitch" to the Batcopter!!!
this is the colab we need
The baseball would be obliterated unfortunately lol
I would say the ball hit at a 1000 rpm bat would be far to expensive to do. The impact at that speed would destroy the bat, the ball probably would be damaged as well. And with the ball damaged hang time would be limited, so I would say a ball smacked at a 1000 rpm would go 3 80 and 424 meters. As on paper it could go 500 meter.
And... yeah, Destin would have to tune his ball blaster down a bit... 250 MPH would be pretty sweet as well!! =0)
With the Guys, Gavin and Dan, filming the Slow Mo.
Shout out to "Kanyana Engineering" for fabricating the stainless bat blade!

Isn't it crazy that there have been some mlb players that have homeruns longer than the distance at 8:35? And mlb homeruns are measured by their arc only, so that any distance they would have bounced or rolled is not counted. Crazy how strong some players have to be and how well some people have to swing

That wall in the background at the beginning of the video looks so cool. The sky and the background looked so beautiful minus the bugs. It was cool of Anthony allowing you to use his land for your video. Also, his dog was super adorable!
The subtle Jokes either editor Jack or the boys put in post production - such as Herron hearing "240m", and then going "OH 230!", so the confused "230?" flashes across the video, perfectly commenting on the confusion (11:35) -- is such an underrated part of the HR videos that I just adore
Ditto mate I told jack that in a live stream earlier this year. I wish they’d do more it’s very funny. Like on the hitting golf balls through stuff (first one) styro Steve, white board etc asked how many attempts it’s gonna take him to hit the golf ball, Herron says “I’ll hit it” and up pops ‘you sure mate?’ 🤣🤣🤣

I'd love to dig into the engineering of this thing vs destins. The way the ball is launched into the bat (shot vs punted) has got to change quite a bit in terms of hit distance.
The big difference is destin used actual base ball bats. This thing uses massive aluminium tubes, not base ball bats. They have the record for longest hit *of a baseball*, not longest baseball hit, ie base ball bat vs base ball.
@@Debbiebabe69 that too. I guess it would all come down to how Guinness considers "baseball hit" in determining the record
I love thinking about that too, think about the elastic reaction that would occur if they used a pitching machine at even 50mph in addition to bats or tubes spinning at such a insane rate of speed. It's crazy to think how much more velocity they can achieve by adding in some velocity on the other end. At that point we would have to consider even the structural integrity of the ball as I am sure the covers strings inside the baseball would begin to tear and split with such an intense elastic reaction. I'm honestly surprised they didn't have the covers come off a few of the baseballs they used in this videos already without having added velocity on the other end.
This is awesome - zero doubt. However I kinda think Destin's record still stands: He used normal bats.
Agreed
I agree 100%
Ya they should of really mentioned that more
Yeah, some crazy custom metal tube/rod thing made to look crazily like a helicopter, in a backwoods clearing... vs regulation bats from home base on a regulation field. My bet is that regardless of how far these guys knocked a ball, its A: not considered a home run... and B: wont qualify against destins. This is pretty neat though, but i really hate when people try to piggy back something and say its one thing, when its really not. =T
Agreed, fun vid guys, It's some kind of record. But not that record. Those arent bats..
can i just say, the sound that it makes every hit is just, simply, yes

It's a rare day when Destin does a video that misses some scientific controls and even rarer when HR actually does something scientifically.

I look forward to the future videos with this contraption. But... I think Destin's method holds truer to the challenge by using an actual baseball bat. But yours is still awesome.

Never noticed this same thing with a MLB home run, but you're getting the baseballs spinning so fast they're literally RISING after they leave the bat. That's absolutely incredible. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.
I strongly suspect its because these balls did not have any existing motion on them before hit, where as pitched baseballs have all sorts of motions on them depending on what the pitcher was pitching. combined with the often odd wind patterns of a ballpark.
What a cute chopper!
The sound when the "bat" hits the ball
