My reed keeps cutting out on my practice chanter. I don't blow too hard or soft and it still cuts out. Any advice?

Your présentation is not complete. You dont modify the pitch of the reed as you dont modifiy the lengh of the blades. In changing the position in the reed seat you modify the proportion of the high and low notes.there is only one position that give a true scale. You should say that the high A and low A must be at one octave intervalle and idem for the high G and low G. Also it'is possible to tape one or even the two tuning holes or bores on the bottom side of the chanter to flatten the low G if it is needed.Hope my comment will be of some help.
