    I've always had plenty of trouble with my reeds, even now I'm still learning, but I'm glad I saved all of my old ones that I thought were no good, I have new ones that I haven't tried yet, I haven't done anything to them, but I will try to resurrect my old ones and learn more before doing anything to my new ones.

      I'd recommend you get all of those reeds in a Tone Protector Reed Case for a few days to stabilize the humidity in the cane - some of those that were no good might just be GREAT. Link: bagpipelessons.com/products/tone-protector

    These videos are priceless for a lone piper like me. My biggest hurdle is setup and maintenance on my own. Thank you so much. Also... your reed poker has made my life a lot easier. Worth every penny.

    i´ve recently had a lot of trouble with my reeds. Due in my country bagpipes are not that common, this information and techniques are unknown to most of us. Thank you very much.

    The elastic bridle is mentioned in The College of Pipings Book Two (The red one) on page 42 in 1971 🙂

    The elastic band may have initially been introduced by the McAllister brothers of Shotts & Dikehead Caledonian PB back in the 1970s .. .. i remember my PM using this method then on my wooden Sinclair chanter 🎶🎼🎵

      Thanks for sharing that historical tidbit about the McAllister brothers and the elastic band method! That makes sense since their reeds were notoriously hard to break in. Thank goodness those days are behind us. Happy piping! 🎶

    If you poke a reed too open, can you use a clamp or something to partially close it again? Or is it one way only?

    • @bagpipelessons
      @bagpipelessons  Місяць тому

      Great question! If the reed is too hard, either because it just came that way or you poked it too much, you can close it down with an elastic chanter reed bridle. I talk about that in the video. I have them here on my shop, too, as part of my Precision Tuning Tool Kit: bagpipelessons.com/toolkit Thanks and please let me know if you have more questions!

    Do you leave the bridle in place after you’re done playing?

    • @bagpipelessons
      @bagpipelessons  Рік тому +1

      Great question! Yes, if the reed sounds good and feels good with the bridle in place, I leave it there! If the reed gets too easy, I'll adjust the bridle accordingly.

    10:28 How do I do the reeds?? Just like her, it's better for science to play without a drone.

    The claim that the tone protector eliminates all issues with a reed , is a bold statement to make. Nonetheless, I respect your product and may give it a go.
