Lehane’s eleventh novel is a tightly plotted and deft psychological thriller, full of the crisp dialogue and cinematic precision that made Mystic River and Shutter Island not just powerful narratives but memorable screen adaptations. The story centers on Rachel, a TV journalist who has recently gotten her life and career back on track after a traumatic assignment that led to a public breakdown, reclusiveness, and drinking. But when she sees something she can’t quite make sense of, she begins to doubt her senses, her memory, and even her marriage, and is shocked to feel herself spiraling out of control once again.

Lehane is a deeply nuanced writer. I thank him for his most excellent work. And even though he and I may be different politically, his truly honest and heartfelt works mean the world to me. "Live By Night" is a personal favourite. In fact, inspired me to write my book, "The Caretaker". Thank you, Mr Lehane, I await your next book with much anticipation.

Great to hear the man talk. I always believed that Patrick Kenzie was his alter ego. Listening to Denis talk reinforces the principle of his and Patrick's character summed up in his own word: my back yard.
    Go figure it. 🖋 👁‍🗨

Rachel wasn't ", unhinged". She had a revelation, not in a religious sense, an honest sense. Lehane explores this theme with great nuance and thoughtfulness in his work. I already mentioned "Live By Night", I'll also mention "World Gone By". Well worth checking out.

Is it me or does he seem amazed by his own writing? :-)
